What kind of NBA2k style "badges" would you want to see in Madden?

If you don't know what I mean by badges, check this link out
    http://www.sportsgamersonline.com/nba-2k15-badges-guide-4051/

Similar to what we have in Madden with "traits" but I think 2k figured out a a great way too flesh out the idea to a way better degree. There's things like personality badges that have in game/season effects too that could really help madden differentiate its players a lot more..

Examples off the top of my head..
Shake and Bake - Increased success/tendency with jukes and shakes (Lesean McCoy, LeVeon Bell, Theo Riddick)
Bowling Ball - Increased success/tendency of trucks and chances of falling forward/fighting for the extra yard (Eddie Lacy, Johnathan Stewart, CJ Anderson in my unbiased bronco fan opinion lol)
Back Door - Increased ability to recognize and haul in back shoulder passes (Jordy Nelson, Julio Jones, Dez Bryant)
Pancake Specialist - Capable of CRUSHING blocks in the run game (Larry Allen)
Cadence Guesser - Increased ability to jump snap at home games

Hard Count - Obvious (Aaron Rodgers) Something I've thought could be cool is to get rid of the fake snap and just have multiple different snap counts. Tap A/X on one, Hold A/X on two, Tap B/O quick hike, Hold B/O hard count and hike. I don't know where the middle ground would be in terms of them tuning the sound/camera pull away and/or controller vibration of the different snaps to help balance out the defensive reactions. But it could be a really fun game within the game at the line of scrimmage to help increase the mind battle playing as a DL.
High Point - Increase ability to come down with jump balls/aggressive catches (DeAndre Hopkins, Martavis Bryant, Julio Jones)

Defensive Leader - Decreases defensive lapses in tight games
Cool and Collected - Rallies team after turnover or bad play
Mentor - Increases development at his position, too get it you need 60 starts or something

What else can we come up with?

Re: What kind of NBA2k style "badges" would you want to see in Madden?

Didn't Madden have something similar like 10 years ago?

    Anyways...

Stone hands - Tendency to drop open passes. (Ted Ginn, James Jones)

Special Teams Ace - Standout on ST, ability to make flashy plays and hits on ST (Jeff Janis)

Now You See Me - Known for his aggressive nature in jumping certain routes, most notably the curl, comeback, slant, and in/out's. Will often bite on double moves, you take the good with the bad with these players. (Malcolm Butler, Asante Samuel)

Back Ally - Players you love to hate, these players will do a little extra after the whistle, and will often play dirty, each hard hit has a slightly higher chance of causing injury. (Vontaze Burfict, Richie Incognito)

Misery Loves Company - The stage is jus too big for these players, they struggle in the clutch, and will often make boneheaded mistakes late in tight games. (Tony Romo, Jay Cutler)

Brick Wall - OL or DL who hold their ground and rarely get pushed back, even by their stronger counterparts.

      None.

The feature doesn't translate as well to football.

I like the concept of these kinds of labels but in Madden I'd prefer them to be the culmination of stats and ability.

If done well, I think it would be a good addition, at the very least add more traits.

More mental traits I am on board with, but those that affect skills can and should be done by existing ratings. Instead of giving Shady a "shake and bake" badge stretch out the juke rating and make high juke more rare.

It doesn't translate as well as basketball, I agree, but there needs to be ways to better distinguish players from one another. Besides spreading out the ratings WAY more, and fixing progression and regression, i think badges/traits could go a long way in accomplishing player individuality, especially the elites in the game

Yup can't disagree there. Mental traits could do wonders for franchise mode if they can implement them well enough. And also would LOVE to see them stretch their ratings to a higher degree with very few elite guys in the 90's. Loved how 2k went to an "all time scale" in regards to rating their players too.

Re: What kind of NBA2k style "badges" would you want to see in Madden?

Just put in a copy of Madden 07 or Madden 08 for the original XBOX if you want to see this done well. There were badges that modified the existing attributes and even did so at crucial moments. If a Quarterback led fourth quarter comebacks, he could develop the field general badge. If a QB was drafted in the first round and met certain criteria, the Franchise QB badge was triggered and he received bonuses with jersey sells and had three seasons to improve beyond an OVR 85 until a "bust" badge was triggered. A veteran QB over a certain age with a lot of starting experience could develop the "mentor" badge to affect his young franchise QB's ratings to a limited extent. There was even a subsection wherein you could read all about the badges and what they meant for the different positions.

It was just so darn fun. I would absolutely love to see that again.

Wait, why wouldn't it translate well to football? Isn't the point of badge to give player some sense of individuality or unique ability or a greater ability with said badge type? There's no reason why it wouldn't translate well to football.

Would someone care to explain why badges won't translate to football? Look across the NFL, and there are bound to be individuals with athletic ability or trait that distinguishes them, or gives them a certain edge. You even said it yourself "but there needs to be ways to better distinguish players from one another," isn't that the whole point of having a badge?

You even laid out badges that could be associated with certain players in your opening original post. Isn't that pretty much how a badge would work in a football video game?

It's not that I think it WON'T translate well, I think it very well could. I was simply agreeing that it seems easier to translate in basketball. At the time it kind of made sense to me when I first had the thought..but seems more like I was just sort of contradicting myself a little haha. I did mention again right after that how I thought badges would increase player individuality.

A badge to make some players more effective at catching back shoulder fades ie Jordy Nelson

                        A strip sack badge.

A badge to make players more effective at tipping badges at the line of scrimmage.

It could be cool to have some off-the-field "badges" as well. Things that could impact contract negotiations.
They could differentiate players who are looking to make as much money as possible regardless of what team it is vs. A player who is willing to take a discount to stay with their home team vs An aging player who is willing to take a discount to play for a contender to have one last shot at winning a title. Stuff like that.

They used to have something similar in one of the older Maddens on Xbox/PS2, where they would have bars that showed how important different factors were to different players for where they would sign, such as: money, playing time, coach prestige, weather, team success, etc. It really helped add some personality and life to franchise mode.

NBA2k style Badges in Madden? Want no part of them. Think they are a comical, arcade-like addition in NBA2k, and didn't like the Player Roles (or whatever they were called) in Madden 08. The current ratings should be enough without adding gimmicky cliches making them an important part of the game. To me, that's not football, that's video gaming.

Just looking at the article, I wouldn't want them.

Defensive Anchor – Makes his team better defensively just by being on the floor.
How to get it– Play at least 30 games in a season or career and raise your Defender discipline to Level 18.

Floor General – Makes his team better offensively just by being on the floor.
How to get it– Have a career assist average of 5 or more, play at least 30 games in a season or career, and raise your Playmaker discipline to Level 18.
Things like that I don't want to see. And most of the badges on the page seem like something that is earned through playing very similar to goals except instead of XP you're getting a certain attribute boost. I've never been a fan of those kind of boosts as we've seen from hot/cold streaks and now confidence how they can wreak havoc with gameplay. In theory I think they can have a place but most of the things these badges would or could do should be handled with ratings IMO.
