What Exactly makes it where a player just walks off their man?

    Topic.

i dont get how i can lose a game based off garbage like this. Why is the SF coming on top of the 3pt line to guard the PG when i got the situation under control? leaving his man WIDE OPEN IN THE CORNER. and this is a constant thing.

Just lost a game i should have won. to this and Players hiting shots they shouldnt be hitting <_< (You have a 50 mid range and you are consistantly hitting?)

I was playing with the new rosters, Sixers vs Thunder, and Ben Simmons was constantly leaving Morrow wide open when Westbrook would drive.

Better yet, the players who should rotate never do. Nerlens is one of the best shot blockers in the league and he would never come over and rotate unless I did it manually.
I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

It seems off-ball defensive settings and defensive points of emphasis are a suggestion unless you use "Deny", which means you'll get backdoor cut perpetually. (Honestly, aside from the rebounding settings Defensive POIs do very little on the defense. You players prioritize stopping a break to the rim over anything, including their defensive settings, which leaves players wide open on the perimeter.

      It's vastly annoying

If I say, "Limit Perimeter shots" that means stay with your man on the perimeter... why 2K has your players float off of their assignment with a setting like "Tight" is beyond me.

Re: What Exactly makes it where a player just walks off their man?

You'll have a wing defender give up the right corner 3 to go double or triple team a "threat" on the other wing or corner.

You'll also see a defender give up the paint to go double team a "threat" on the perimeter thus leaving the paint man wide open for an easy bucket.

The logic just isn't there. I don't mind rotations but om ball help should be decided by me (the on ball defender). Coaches also don't encourage you to double team someone who is more than 1 body / pass away.

It's the logic that needs tuning. In My Career the teammates also always double team or hedge the ball handler leaving the screen man wide open for a roll or a fade.

I am new to this years game but I seem to have the same kind of problems. I will see a player rotate and leave a guy wide open and its usually a guy that is great making 3 pointers out on the wing and he drains it 90% of the time. Another thing I hate is when I try to rotate but I get stuck on two or three team mates that are just standing around doing nothing while leaving two or three people open and the guy I am trying to rotate to gets a easy look because I am stuck and can't move.

Try setting the defense on that player to on-ball:tight and off-ball:deny. The closer you set your defenders to guard him the less they will come and help.

players still come off regarless of using that setting. I notice it happens in PNR near the corners so I hurry and switch the person I know is about to come off their player. Only problem is your teammates that are involved in the PNR end up doing something stupid.

I've been preaching this for what seems like years, but i think its only been since 2k15

I hope they address this is 2k17, it's nearly game breaking for leagues that require on-ball D

yup, big problem. dunno why it was never fixed in a patch. your ai teammates are generally ******** on defense as well.

OMG I have been asking this all year long! Even when I set my defensive settings to Deny/Smother, it's USELESS. This is why 2K16 is reduced to just Park for me the last 6 months it's because of the defensive flaws. Here's my video on the topic from months ago: https://youtu.be/3FuzzI6EHMo

                      I think it's a bug.

For some odd reason, sometimes the SF is set guard the PG in the defensive matchups. I've tried changing this however it reverts back once I unpause the game.

In my case, it was happening to a specific player. My starting PG would always be set to guard someone else other than the opposing PG. When I subbed him out, everything was back to normal (i.e., PG defends the PG, SF defends the SF)

It's coded in the ACE feature that was introduced this year. Turning off the AI auto coach adjustments in the coach settings should fix this.

It's how the game's defensive rotations are programmed. When the game thinks the defense breaks down, even if it's for a split second, it will give up lower percentage shots (3pt shots) in lieu of higher ones (shots under and around the basket).

What usually happens is that the user loses containment for a split second on a pick n roll and the defense breaks down. Sometimes the game rotates the screener's defender onto the ball handler and sends a wing player to the screener. Other times the wing defender comes over to stop the ball handler from getting to the basket. In either case the game is trying to make sure everyone close to the basket is covered.

The problem is that not only is this game mechanic too sensitive, the wing defender commits hard on the rotation. It only takes a sliver of daylight for the ball handler to make the wing defender rotate. When he rotates he is fully committed. Even when the defense recovers almost immediately the wing defender stays in no man's land.

Off-ball AI defense is heavily dependent on their IQ stat and athletism. I forget where I read it. What happens is the higher the IQ the LESS your player comes off his man, if he's a good shooter, and help with defense in the paint. It will happen, unfortunately, but the distance the defender creates should be much closer to the off-ball player than a player with terrible IQ. UNLESS HOWEVER, your player has really high athleticism like speed, reaction, etc. The player (games) assumes he can adequately cover the distance he's giving up to help in the paint in case the ball gets pushed out to the paint.

I actually think Shakedown did a huge post on this at some point, but I forget.

They need a defensive setting for each player that says "dont leave" or dont help. Being forced to deny a person to make them stay home is not a good look. They also need a "protect rim" individual setting that instructs a defender to just camp out around rim and not follow his man away from the goal. These 2 things would help greatly.
