Best Madden to play as a GM only
Basically what the title says. What year Madden game is the best to play as a general manager/owner, i.e. Jerry Jones. I don't want to play the games, or super sim them or whatever. I may watch the game as a spectator if my team makes it to the super bowl but I want 0% control over the players on the field. Have any of you played this way? Any suggestions on which version would be the best to do so? I have every madden going back to 2004 on my ps2 up to madden 25 on ps3Check out my dynasty thread:

Re: Best Madden to play as a GM only
08 to me was basically a roster update to 07 imo. 09 was pretty good although that's the only madden I've never completed a full season of franchise mode in. Maybe I'll fire that one up and go through it again. Does it have all the owner mode options, like setting ticket prices, concession stand stuff, adding onto/upgrading the stadium, relocation, etcCheck out my dynasty thread:

Re: Best Madden to play as a GM only
If you have no desire to play the games on the field and exclusively want a extremely detailed single-player front office experience, there's not really a Madden game worth considering. For purely front office stuff and absolutely nothing else, there are many games which get more in-depth than Madden does, and without the on-field gameplay to reinforce the off-field portion Madden will leave you kinda wanting.
The only console football game worth considering for this sort of thing is NFL Head Coach 09 on the XBOX 360 / PS3. Beyond that, PC text simulators such as Front Office Football 7 or Football Mogul are your best bet.
If you're dead-set on having a Madden game to do this with, wait for Madden 17. It has practice squads, and the weekly training will allow you to have some influence over how your team develops on a week-to-week basis. You'll also have the most up-to-date rosters.Comment

Re: Best Madden to play as a GM only
I thought there was an issue getting madden 08 to run on Windows 10? If not then maybe I'll give that a try because I know there's a good sized modding community for the game.
Someone else suggested FoF but I was hoping I could what I wanted out of the games I already had in my collection. My local game store has NFL Head Coach for $1.99 so I'm gonna grab it and try that one outCheck out my dynasty thread:

Re: Best Madden to play as a GM only
My favorite Madden for that is Madden 06 for PS2.
Head Coach 09 is good too.
You can wait for the one the guys of Out of The Park baseball are doing. Don't know when it is coming out though.

Re: Best Madden to play as a GM only
Madden 09 was good because it featured the coaching carousel (why they got rid of this???), so as the Vikings I could fire Brad Childress and promote Leslie Frazer from DC to HC, then sign Randy Moss as my OC after he retired. I was the last madden to have truly randomised draft classes with scouting reports, combine stats and the skill web if you hadn't scouted a prospect (again why get rid of these until recently??). However, 09 had TERRIBLE draft logic (I remember the Pats drafting a QB in Rnd1 & 2 despite having Brady), the IR system didn't work and because Schemes weren't a thing yet, every team was the same(ish). Also FAs during season couldn't be signed to 1 year deal, they wanted multi year deals every time.
Madden 12 had set(ish) draft classes, no combine and no way to know if a prospect was okay if you hadn't scouted. The IR worked but you could only be the HC. There were still no proper schemes but teams did draft better and for traits (Raiders for SPD etc). Also, wasn't this the Madden that had the terrible timed bidding war FA?? This was the last Madden before the implementation of the XP system and CFM.
So basically, if I could mash what I expect M17 to be like with the long lost features of 360 gen Madden (or Head Coach) it would be nice sim gameAlso, 09 and 12 were still using waaaay more canned animations than current gen so Sim watching could get boring...

Re: Best Madden to play as a GM only
I didn't play anything after 06 on the PS2, because I (now regrettably) bought 07-onward on the PS3. That being said, 06 was the last Madden that I would qualify as being "good" off the field. The game got better and better every year up to that point, and even though its crawling its way back 11 years later, isn't there yet.
I must be one of the few who was disappointed by Head Coach. When I first read about it, I was so excited, but then the actual product was nothing like what I wanted. It was filled with busywork and tedium of practice and game simulations, when the GM/Owner aspects were what I really wanted.
I played Front Office Football around 15 years ago and liked it a lot, but I no longer play games on my PC with almost everything being online based these days, and I cannot get access to broadband where I live.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: Best Madden to play as a GM only
In my opinion it's either madden 12 or madden 2005 (I throughly enjoy the radio show)
Madden 12 progression system was great(kinda similar to nba2k's)
It's contract signing logic is its biggest downfall for me though, even thought you don't have to do this you can sign draft picks for 7 year deals resign third stringers (sometimes no matter the overall) for minimum 7 year contracts.
The trading was also horrendous I could trade a 70 overall fs to a team that has a 70ish overall fs for a 3rd round pick.
I don't remember much about madden 2005 but it has all the Staduim concession stuff, mini camp, position battles, news section, the player card things to show players morale and stuff, the team cards things to inform you about your opponentsite and more.
I could go on but this is probably to much.Comment
