    Let's Talk Online Lag...

Alright, admittidly im a sports gamer and i rarely step out of my comfort zone. I used to play COD offline with my friends, but never cared to step into the fray online and get mowed down at respawn points.

Well a few friends of mine convinced me to try the new Battlefield 1 beta which i enjoyed, but what was most impressive was the speed and responsiveness of the experience. It was incredible.

I couldn't believe how smooth everything was with so many combatants shooting it out on the ground, in the air, on horses, on trains and through destructible environments. Afterwards we tried to get a game of Pro-Am in and it was like playing on dial up by comparison. Everything was laggy as it's actually always been, but it was so much more noticeable after playing something that felt like I was playing on the couch with my friends.

With an emphasis on skills being the differentiating factor for 2k17, such a level of smooth gameplay should be the standard. Why is Battlefield so much better than NBA2k in this regard? How can this be improved?

    Re: Let's Talk Online Lag...

Online gaming has been over the lag issue for more than a decade now I'd say. Games that have dedicated effort, time and resources to create decent servers do not have a significant amount of lag.

2k, on the other hand, does not dedicate enough effort, time and resources. In fact, they don't even discuss this topic.

I would honestly say that NBA2k is the only franchise in the high part of the sales ranking that has a biggest offline-online experience in terms of delay in the controls' response (lag).

    Time to step up, 2k.

Absolutely agree. They don't need to talk esports if they don't step up their server game. It's ridiculous.

They improved lag in 2k16 to playable level, hope it will be even better this year.
        2k18 fixes

Bigs can cover to much ground on defense(they are too fast)

Late contest on laups matter too much.

        Random blocks doing pumpfakes.

Leaning shots for guys who have catch and shoot badge should be removed.

So Battlefield has a dedicated server while NBA 2k doesn't?

I really didnt get much lag on 2k16, now 2k15 rec center was the worst but 2k16 was fine to me.

i dont get a ton of lag but the input delay on 16 was terrible - and i hardly ever complain about 2k.

i do agree with the emphasis on esports thats gotta be improved.

you know what i lied, now that i think about it i did experience a lot of lag in the park and walk on proam but not regular pro am

I get all sorts of different lag. There's the input lag where a button press doesn't register immediately, this happens offline as well. Then there's the moments in pro am where the game moves at ridiculous fast speeds for a couple seconds. And everybody I've played with has experienced this before. We just refer to it as super lag lol. When I play PNO the game just feels even more unresponsive and generally laggy. I usually try to get layups/fouls because I don't trust that I can get a well timed release on a jumper. The one good note is that as far as finding matches goes 2K has made some nice progress.

                      Re: Let's Talk Online Lag...

The input lag and sluggish movement is annoying especially when its on the defensive end and im giving up buckets.

2K online is so sluggish and unresponsive feels like games are played under water. Never seen anything close in any other game series.

Correct! Either on sand or under water are the right terms to define.

IMHO, I think the "lag" is a result of the animations. I rarely have lag minus internet/bandwidth issue which can happen on any game. The last time that I remembered that there was a distinct difference in timing between offline and online was maybe 2K10 or maybe 2K11.
