Lets see if Monroe and the rest of the Tulane crew can bring Holloway and the rest of the Hurricanes some humble pie.

The game looks to be a nice even match up on paper. Hurricanes linebacking crew looks like something to watch out for though. They seem to have some strength there Geezy.

They have a might impressive linebacker group there, could be a long day if they start to get on top. Give that freshman RT hell and see how he holds up!

      Oh, and beat Miami!!

Hey man...life happens. I'm sure the true freshman is ready to step up and fill Carpenter's shoes.

Really hope we can make Holloway look silly for leaving.

Thanks brother...I feel like Deuce was way too quiet last game. Need to get him more opportunities to make big plays in the short passing game. Really looking forward to using him in this expanded role.

That would be awesome if we can get Deuce singled up one-on-one versus Holloway at some point. I may have to make that happen

I agree with your assessment. This game is very even, and with it being a road game, I expect a close one. I plan to maybe spread them out early and get those great LBs of theirs off the field. Offensively, that tight end of theirs scares me (21 catches through two games). Gonna have to treat him line another WR.

First of all, I really appreciate the reply. Glad to have you onboard.

Great advice there...I somehow overlooked that and I am usually pretty thorough when "game-planning." I will definitely be throwing some stunts and blitzes his way when the situation warrants.

As stated above, the plan is to try to spread them out and get them into their nickel and dime sub-packages early and often. There is no question, their D is at its best when in base, so we'll have to force them out of that. I have a feeling we are going to have to strap the helmets tight for this one though; it's gonna be a dog-fight!

Can't wait to get this game started; feels like I haven't played in forever. About to fire up the XBOX now. Thanks for checking in fellas!

Game 4, Year 13 (2022 season): #2 Tulane Green Wave at #10 Miami Hurricanes

          #2x 35 -- 4-0
          #10 31 -- 2-1

RB Buck Johnson III's 40-yard touchdown run on a 4th and 1 carry with just 2:02 remaining made the score 35-31 and ended up being the game-winning touchdown. Johnson III finished with over 100 rushing yards for the first time this season.

#2 Tulane survives #10 Miami's best shot behind strong performance by RB Johnson III in 35-31 victory at South Beach | In a game which featured 8 lead changes, senior running back rushes for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the game-winning 40-yard score on late 4th down play | On an otherwise subpar night for Wave offense, CB Shuler's 2 INTs and 1 touchdown along with freshman RB Tompkins' kickoff return touchdown helps pick up the slack | Team begins an unprecedented 4-game home stand with SEC foe Auburn next on the slate

Miami, FL -- The #10 ranked Miami Hurricanes gave the #2 ranked Tulane Green Wave all it could handle, storming out to an early 10-0 lead and leading 31-28 late. However clutch plays throughout the game by the Green Wave offense, defense, and special teams enabled them to overcome a very-game Hurricanes squad and a subpar night for QB Bryce Allen, as they prevailed 35-31 Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium. Tulane senior RB Buck Johnson III's 40-yard touchdown scamper in which he was untouched came on a 4th and 1 carry with just over two minutes remaining gave his team the game-winning points in a contest which featured a whopping 8 lead changes, including 3 in the fourth quarter alone. The Wave won despite Allen throwing for only 134 yards on the night.

Miami (2-1) was able to take the night's first possession on a 16-play 81-yard drive which lasted 5:29. The drive culminated with a 5-yard touchdown run by RB Bobby Doyle. Doyle, a redshirt sophomore, finished the night with 14 carries for 87 yards, playing most of the game in place of starting RB Lawrence Johnson, who left the game in the second quarter with a torn back muscle which could reportedly end his season according to team sources.

After the Wave went three and out on its opening possession, the Hurricanes promptly went right back down the field. This time, an 11-play 41-yard drive ended with a career-long 52-yard field goal by Canes senior PK Kris Miller that increased his team's lead to 10-0 early in the second quarter.

That's when Tulane finally woke up from its slumber. Green Wave true freshman RB/KR Tony Tompkins, a native of Cutler Ridge, Florida, which sits in Miami-Dade County, showed up with a big play in his home city. His 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the first touchdown of his career and the 4-star recruit's big play cut his team's deficit to 10-7 while providing momentum. According to team sources, Tompkins was in Tulane head coach D. Geezy's doghouse for issues he had with fumbling earlier in the year, but the 13th year head coach sung Tompkins' praises after the game.

Tulane 4-star true freshman RB Tony Tompkins' 94-yard kickoff return touchdown was the first score of his career and put the Green Wave on the board while also getting him out of Coach D. Geezy's doghouse due to early season fumbling issues.

"I could not be happier for Tony, making such a big play in front of his home-city crowd and bursting onto the scene for us. I know he's been champing at the bit after the rough start," said Geezy.

After forcing a quick three and out on Miami's next possession, the Tulane offense got the ball back and was able to finally run just its fourth play from scrimmage with 7:29 remaining in the second quarter. A 7-play 54-yard drive led to a 12-yard touchdown run by Johnson III which gave the Wave its first lead of the game at 14-10 with 5:01 remaining in the half.

Miami star MLB Ben Williams terrorized the Tulane offense all night on Sunday, finishing with 9 tackles, a sack, and this interception which allowed his team to kick a field goal and go into halftime with a 16-14 lead.

It would not take Miami long to get the lead back though. A field goal by Miller cut the Canes deficit to 14-13 with 0:32 to go in the half. Then, following an interception by Miami star MLB Ben Williams on Tulane's ensuing possession, Miller nailed a 28-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, giving his team a 16-14 halftime lead.

"We are always going to come out aggressive when we have 30-plus seconds and two of our timeouts remaining," said Wave offensive coordinator Curtis Byrd, who spent two seasons on the Hurricanes' coaching staff prior to arriving back at Tulane.

"Bryce just has to be more careful with his throws, though on that play in particular, he was hit as he threw. And give Miami credit, those linebackers they have out there are all just unbelievable."

The see-saw pace of the first half would carry on right into the second half.

After going three and out on their opening second half possession and punting away to Miami, the Tulane defense got in on the act. Wave #1 CB Garrett Shuler's first interception of the season came with the Hurricanes backed up deep in its own territory, and the former Alabama Crimson Tide transfer returned it 31 yards for a touchdown that gave Tulane the lead back at 21-16 early in the third quarter.

Green Wave CB Garrett Shuler returned his first interception of the season 31 yards for a touchdown which gave Tulane a 21-16 advantage early in the third quarter.

Later in the quarter, the first of three 4th down gambles by Geezy failed to pay off, as Miami stuffed Johnson III on 4th and inches at midfield with 3:57 to go in the third quarter. Three plays later, Canes star TE Chase Temple's 23-yard touchdown reception from QB Matt Taylor gave Miami the lead right back at 24-21 following a two-point conversion run by Doyle. Temple, who finished with 4 receptions for 58 yards, became Miami's all-time receptions leader with his first reception of the game on his team's opening drive of the contest, which gave him 265 and moved him past former Canes WR Anthony Stanford (2014-2017), who had 264 catches. The next closest player is former Hurricanes WR Reggie Wayne (1997-200), with 173. Temple did sustain a shoulder injury late in the game however and was unable to return for Miami's final two possessions.

Tulane would come right back following Temple's score with an 11-play 62-yard drive which lasted 3:30 and ended with a 5-yard touchdown run by FB Eric Harrell to give the Wave a 28-24 lead with 8:43 to go.

Not to be out-done, once again, Miami fired right back with a long drive of its own. This time, a 13-play 84-yard drive which lasted 4:27 ended with a 6-yard touchdown pass from Taylor to true freshman FB Oliver Smith on 4th and 2 which gave the Canes a 31-28 advantage with 4:16 to play. Taylor finished the night 26 of 34 for 257 yards and 2 touchdowns.

"We just could not get off the ******* field tonight," said an angry Wave defensive coordinator Steve Ellis.

The Wave would bounce back however with one more long drive of its own. This time a 9-play 79-yard drive lasted 2:14 and culminated with Johnson III's aforementioned 40-yard game-winning touchdown on 4th and 1 that made the score 35-31 with just over two minutes to play. Johnson III, a senior, finished the game with 105 yards on just 12 carries on the night and 2 touchdowns, his last one coming with relative ease, untouched right up the middle.

For the second straight week, Tulane struggled to get RB Deuce Monroe in position to make big plays as he finished with only 41 yards from scrimmage, though he did end the night with a game-high 5 receptions. This 11-yard first down reception came versus former Wave CB Jay Holloway, and eventually led to a second quarter touchdown.
The game would finally get put away on the very first play of Miami's next possession when Shuler collected his second interception of the game with 1:55 to play. Following short runs by both Johnson III and Harrell, the Wave faced a 4th and inches from the Canes 12-yard line with 1:32 remaining. Geezy decided to gamble one more time, and it paid off as Harrell's 3-yard run gave his team a first down and allowed the Green Wave to run out the rest of the clock on kneel downs, putting an end to a challenging day for the Wave offense.

"(CB) Jay (Holloway) did an excellent job in coverage and they really did a masterful job overall of limiting our opportunities offensively," said Geezy of the former member of the Green Wave who transferred to Miami following the 2019 season.

"We had trouble getting guys open and we also had a tough time getting Deuce Monroe the ball in space. Fortunately the run game, the defense, and the special teams stepped up.

"You take your first glance at the stat sheet and you'd think we were blown out. But then look down at turnovers and the scoring we got from other areas as well as our run game efficiency, that was the difference in game. This was a great team win."

Tulane (4-0, 1-0) will host Auburn (3-0, 1-0) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in what will be the first of four straight home contests. The Green Wave defeated Auburn 29-13 last season at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

FB Eric Harrell's 3-yard carry on 4th and 1 with 1:32 remaining gave his team and first down and allowed the Green Wave to run out the rest of the clock on kneel-downs.

A Miami player lets Tulane know whose house they're stepping into as they run onto the field.

Former Wave CB Jay Holloway, who transferred from Tulane to Miami three years ago and was named a team captain for Sunday night's game, smothered Green Wave top WR Brandon McIntyre, holding him to just two receptions on the day.

Tulane DE Jonathan Shultz had a great game Sunday night, sacking Hurricanes QB Matt Taylor 2 times, giving him 3 sacks on the season.

TE Chase Temple takes advantage of a blown assignment by Wave true freshman CB Tyler Harrison (#3 above), hauling in this 23-yard touchdown that gave his team a 24-21 third quarter lead.

A Miami fan holds up "The U" as the game heads into the fourth quarter.

Tulane senior FB Eric Harrell's 5-yard touchdown run allowed his team to reclaim the lead at 28-24 very early in the fourth quarter.

Miami junior QB Matt Taylor finished with 257 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, including this 1-yard toss to true freshman FB Oliver Smith that gave their team a 31-28 lead with 4:16 remaining.

TE Ronnie Parsons, starting in place of senior Steven Carpenter who was out on personal leave, finished with 3 receptions for 31 yards, including this one on the game-winning touchdown drive.

Green Wave senior CB Garrett Shuler's interception with under two minutes remaining was his second pick of the day and it put his team in position to melt the remaining time off the clock.

Awesome recap of the game. Looks like one of them games that really could have gone either way to the last second.

Have to love the game winning score from 4th down, go big or go home time and Buck Johnson III went big!

Still looking for that blow out win G. Seems all season the boys are having issues putting teams away. Biggest point differential in a win was week 1 against Florida St. by 10. Not sure if we can categorize it a blow out. I'm gonna say Auburn might be where the blow out comes from. Schedule is looking pretty stout this season minus Kentucky. As always, great update G. Presentation and story writing is always top notch.

Another ground out win, but it was still a win and that is key as you look to build another championship winning team.

Thanks DHC - This was without question a thriller and those two 4th downs in the fourth quarter will be plays I remember for a long time. I'm surprised this one didn't make the ESPN Instant Classic cut.

Thanks as always for the kind words my friend.

I can't disagree with you at all. It is great to be picking up these wins but it is certainly disappointing that we haven't had that signature blowout win that a championship team would typically have had by now. Auburn doesn't look like a pushover either on paper. It'll be nice to be able to relax in the second half of a game at some point here though!

Yeah even though it has been frustrating that we seem to play down to our competition, I must say it has been VERY enjoyable both playing and reporting on these close games, even though close game usually means I have to put more time and effort into the report. lol

Glad you're enjoying the journey. If we do win it all this year, it will definitely have been earned!

Appreciate you taking the time out to go back and read all that stuff. You have no idea how excited I was months back when I was able to recover all of that old data from 6 years ago (for a nominal fee ); it is almost essential to have all that history in order to tell the present story.

Thanks for the compliments and hope you continue to enjoy the rest of the way. I know I said at the beginning of this thing that I see it going 3-4 seasons, but I can now honestly see me playing this dynasty for at LEAST another 3-4 seasons on top of what has already been done here.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. It definitely makes this thing all the more enjoyable to report on.

Tulane | 4-star QB McBride commits
                            Wed, 21 Sep 2022 8:49:31 -0700
                            report courtesy Britt McHenry, ESPN.com

Britt McHenry of ESPN.com reports that North Carolina high school QB Jimmy McBride (5-11, 200, 4.62 40-time, #10 QB prospect) informed Tulane head coach D. Geezy late Tuesday night that he has committed to the Green Wave. McBride, a 4-star prospect despite being considered undersized by many high school scouts, is expected to be redshirted as a freshman with current-sophomore QB Bryce Allen (86 overall) on the roster.

The four year starter at quarterback for Lincolnton High School has drawn comparisons to former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel and 11th year Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson due to his size and scrambling ability.

"Jimmy is a player I think we can develop. Obviously with Bryce here for another season or two, we have time," said Geezy to McHenry not in person but via phone call in the middle of the night, allegedly, according to her.

"We have heard the comps to Johnny Football and I think it fits - the Texas A&M Johnny, not the NFL Johnny. We are excited about the acquisition and think he has a great chance to be the guy here once Bryce leaves."

Tulane | TE Carpenter returns to practice
                            Wed, 21 Sep 2022 10:28:39 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that Tulane senior TE Steven Carpenter (83 ovr) returned to practice on Tuesday, three days after his wife Kathy gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Jean, who weighed in at a whopping 9 pounds and 13 ounces.

Carpenter missed last week's game at Miami, his first missed game of his career at Tulane since arriving as a junior college transfer in 2021. He will immediately be re-inserted into the starting lineup. True freshmam TE Ronald Parsons (79 ovr) caught 3 passes for 31 yards versus the Hurricanes in Carpenter's absence.

Game 5, Year 13 Preview (2022 season): Auburn Tigers at #2 Tulane Green Wave

                              GAME 5 PREVIEW

2021: Then-true freshman QB Bryce Allen caught Auburn in an all-out blitz on 3rd and short and found WR Brandon McIntyre wide open for what was essentially a game-clinching 73-yard touchdown that made the score 26-7 midway through the fourth quarter.

Last Meeting: Last season, #8 Tulane took care of business, amassing a 19-0 lead before eventually prevailing in a 29-13 victory over Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Then-true freshman QB Bryce Allen threw for 369 yards and 3 touchdowns while fellow true freshman WR Brandon McIntyre hauled in 7 receptions for 192 yards and a touchdown in a game that was never really close. Green Wave head coach D. Geezy is a perfect 8-0 versus the Tigers.

2020: FS Lee Palmer's hit on fourth down with 1:22 to go turned the ball over on downs and allowed Tulane to run out the clock.

Last Meeting at Venue: Then-#6 ranked Tulane held off Auburn's upset bid for a 26-21 victory two seasons ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Former Wave QB Jimmy Williams finished with 288 passing yards and a touchdown pass to go along with 63 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground to help pace Tulane. Then-sophomore WR Ryan Jean was Williams' favorite target, per the usual, catching 10 receptions for 153 yards and a touchdown. Tigers LB Marcus McCollum's fourth quarter pick-six cut his team's deficit to 26-21, however Wave FS Lee Palmer's fourth down hit on QB Clay Sellers (ABOVE) helped seal the win for his team late.

Based on talent alone, you guys should win fairly easily. However, that's why the game isn't played on paper. Good luck!
