Re: An AFL Experience- Seattle Seahawks

Week 1 Recap:

Seattle Seahawks (0-1) vs. Miami Dolphins (1-0)

In a game that seemed to be Miami's from the start, thanks to lack luster run D, Seattle fought hard in the 2nd half. The Seahawks put up 20 points in the 2nd half compared to only 3 in the 1st half. Coach Halsne was not too impressed with what he saw on the field quoting, "My grandsons peewee football team could have ran on us today. We did not do a good job plugging up holes, and containing the outside runs. We have got a lot of work to do on the defensive side of the ball." Seattle gave up 223 yards on the ground to a Miami team that was missing their starter, Jerrah Griffin, but that didn't seem to stop them. Cory Davis filled in nice for them racking up 216 yards on 21 carries with a TD. If Seattle wants to improve on a 6-10 record, they have got to do a better job at stopping the run. Offensively Coach Halsne was content with what he saw quoting, "We didn't get out of the gates fast enough to keep pace with the Dolphins, but we fought hard in the second half. Harvey Voss played pretty good outside of that pick. That was just a great play on the ball by Dolphins CB, Brandon Coleman. In regards to running, we did a good job moving the guys up front. We just didn't do it enough due to the situations we were facing in the second half. We will have to put our team in a better position to run the ball more than 13 times next game if we want to win." Ryan Foster was effective in all aspects of the game racking up over a 100 yards of total offense and a TD (12 carries 66 yards, 4 catches 40 yards). Look for the Seattle O to rely heavily on Foster all year in both the pass and run game. Star WR, Andrew Reddington had himself a day catching 5 passes for 103 yards. After last season, Reddington voiced his concerns with the team and wanted change, if not he wanted to be traded. It looks as if Coach Halsne must have had some nice things to say, because Reddington showed up to OTA's and minicamp ready to work. It looks as if him and Voss worked together over the offseason because the Voss-Reddington connection was in full force.

Game notes:
After sniping rookie Riley Dowling WR off the Broncos practice squad, he came up with a big 4th quarter TD reception that cut the game to 8.
Rookie Brendan Carr had his 1st career INT in the end zone stopping the Dolphins from scoring in the 1st quarter after a tough roughing the kicker call on the special teams unit
Marques Brown and Marcus Rice each had 0.5 sack.
Rookie Justin Johnson was injured in the 1st half with a shoulder injury and returned later in the game racking up 7 tackles.

Next week: Seattle Seahawks (0-1) @ LA Rams (0-1)
