The Indianapolis Colts have dreamed about being in this position again after they decided to let go of Peyton Manning. Getting to the Super Bowl is hard enough without an accomplished quarterback like Manning. Being able to draft Andrew Luck and make it back to this point in a few short years is remarkable. Even more remarkable is the run that the Seattle Seahawks are on. Pete Carroll has also been instrumental in turning around a struggling team. Along with Russell Wilson and the team's stout defense, the Seahawks have not only become a perennial contender, but a dynasty. The Seahawks have made a Super Bowl appearance every year since 2013. The Seahawks can cement the idea that they are a legitimate dynasty with a win Sunday. The Colts are looking to build a dynasty of their own and winning this game would be a good way to start.

If reports are to believed, the New England Patriots are really focusing in on the interior of the defensive line. Both through the draft and in free agency, the team wants to make sure the run defense is taken care of. That is where the projected fifth round draft choice Demar Farris comes in. Farris would move inside to defensive tackle and his size would be an upgrade over current defensive tackle Broderick Atkins. While Atkins had an outstanding season, the run defense was porous. Farris, along with the other players scouted, are just one of the many options the Patriots are considering.

If there was any question as to who was the better team Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks answered it emphatically. The most surprising aspect of the Seahawks dominating win over the Indianapolis Colts is that the Colts were no slouch coming in. Ranked 10th in the league on offense and first on defense, many expected this game to be competitive.

The Seahawks got out front in the first quarter with a Steve Hauschka field goal and then piled it on in the second quarter. The Seahawks scored 17 in that quarter to give themselves a 20-3 lead. While Russell Wilson's number's weren't impressive he was efficient and avoided tuning over the football. That is something Andrew Luck didn't do. Luck threw three interceptions in the game. Tht combined with him completing only 55% of his throws resulted in a poor quarterback rating of 32.8. Luck wasn't the only player to struggle on Indianapolis' offense.

Facing such a deficit going into the second half of the gm didn't allow the Colts the chance to utilize on their offenses strengths, the running game. Alfred Morris finished the 2016 season with nearly 1500 rushing yards. In this game, Morris only had 68 yards on 16 attempts while Frank Gore only had one carry. For the Seahawks, the combination of Christine Michael and Marshawn Lynch was effective for the entire game. Michael averaged nearly five yards a carry as the Colts continued to struggle to find answers both offensively and defensively.

While the Seahawks were held to just two field goals in the second half, the Colts defense generated very little pressure. The Seahawks weren't much better in that department either even though defensive tackle Jordan Hill did get a sack. However, the Seahawks were able to keep the Colts from scoring in the second half. That combined with the two field goals kicked cemented their blowout win over the Colts, 26-3.

There have only been a handful of blowout wins in the Super Bowl over the last 15 years. Now, the Seahawks have been a part of two of those. Their 27-10 victory over the New England Patriots in 2014 and this one. This years Super Bowl appearance marks their fourth straight and this is also their third win out of those four appearances. Despite the early season struggles, the Seahawks have overcome a lot and can now be considered a legitimate dynasty. The only question now is which team will be ready to dethrone the current champion of the NFL?

The 2016 New England Patriots Short

How did the veterans hold up?

Being an old NFL player isn't always kind. The physical demands of the game beat up the body to a point where a player just can't perform at the same level they used to. For some of the older players on the team, that didn't seem to be an issue. While Tom Brady played a tad below expectations, there are many teams that would want the accomplished veteran on their squad. Other players like Rob Ninkovich, Jerod Mayo, and Julian Edelman performed exceptionally well. Ninkovich was second on the team with 16 sacks, Mayo led the team with 127 total tackles and Edelman led the team with 111 receptions and 1107 yards. His six receiving touchdowns were the second most on the team. Patrick Chung also did well, despite not having an interception for the entire year. His willingness to play in the box somewhat helped the Patriots against the run. Chung continued to punish ball carriers and had four forced fumbles. That tied him with Chandler Jones for second on the team.

The results of the Patriots revamped cornerback position is.....

Logan Ryan is the only corner to be on the team from the 2015 season. Having that much turnover at a position can cause be an issue. When the season started, that seemed to be the case. Brandon Boykin was signed in Week 1 in the event rookie Kamal Henry and Cordell McNeil weren't ready to start. That changed very quickly as Boykin was thrust into the starting role opposite Ryan after some bad performances by Henry and McNeil. Boykin didn't disappoint and finished the year with 7 interceptions. As the pass defense improved over the season, so did Henry. As the dime corner, Henry snagged four interceptions and returned two of them for a touchdown. The pass defense was aided mightily by the Patriots monstrous pass rush. They ended the year with a league high 62 sacks. The defensive line itself generated most of those sacks as Broderick Atkins, Michael Brockers, Ninkovich and Jones had a combined 51 sacks.

How did Michael Brockers and Broderick Atkins fair?

Getting straight to the point, New England's run defense was horrid for a majority of the year. They allowed an average of 133.3 yards per game on the ground as opposing running backs and offensive lines seemed to do however they pleased. While run defense isn't only about the interior of the defensive line, a lot of runs went right between Atkins and Brockers. The first half of the season was forgettable for Brockers. He was barely a factor in most games. Towards the second half is when things took off for the pair in the passing game. Brockers and Atkins had 6 and 8 sacks respectively. While the run defense seemed to improve in the final weeks of the season, that seemed to affect their pass defense. When looked at as a whole, the Patriots would like to see much better results out of their run defense.

What can Aaron Dobson do for you?

While Dobson didn't have a bad season by any means, it wasn't what the Patriots were hoping for. It was overshadowed by the terrific season that sophomore receiver Claudeson Harrison had. Both Harrison and Dobson had 57 receptions which was the second most on the team. Harrison had 866 receiving and 10 receiving touchdowns. In many ways, Harrison's brekout year was similar to what Dobson was able to do in 2015. Both were the result of injuries at the wide receiver position. Unfortunately, when new talent is able to show itself on the roster, it could have unforeseen effects on other parts of the team.

The New England Patriots were dealt another severe blow in their offseason as Tom Brady has announced that he will be retiring from the game of football. This announcement, like Bill Belichick's has shaken the team. While Brady was more talkative than his former head coach, the move is still somewhat of a surprise. It's speculated that Brady's teammates were aware that the veteran quarterback would step aside at the end of the season. With the Patriots focus being on team above all else, it seems like it was kept a secret as not to distract players during the season.

Brady steps away from the game of football as probably one of the most successful quarterbacks to have ever played the game. His 63,151 passing yards are fourth all time and his 460 passing touchdowns are third all time. Tom Brady has a playoff record of 20-10 which includes three wins and three losses in the Super Bowl. During his time with the Patriots, they have only missed the postseason three times. Two times with Brady as the starting quarterback and the third time, in 2008, Brady sat out most of the regular season with an injury.

There's no doubt that Brady has cemented himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Even though the era in which he played has been more favorable to quarterbacks, there's no doubt that Brady's level of play was far beyond his contemporaries. The Patriots will certainly feel a lot different without Brady at the helm. Brady's play will be the standard set for future quarterbacks in New England to play towards. That sentiment could very well be the same for other NFL teams as well.

The New England Patriots made keeping linebacker Jamie Collins a priority. The young and talented linebacker out of Southern Miss agreed to a 4-year deal with the team. With Tom Brady's absence, the Patriots felt they needed to keep a core of players that knew the system well.

Brandon Bolden, whom the Patriots also re-signed, is a player that fits that description. Bolden helped the Patriots immensely filling in for the injured James White. While White is expected to return to the role he had, pending the results of a position battle, Bolden will return to special teams.

Another player that can have an impact on special teams is wide receiver D'Andre Royster. The team also wants to see how Royster progresses as a receiver. He did well last preseason and with some changes coming to the wide receiver core this year, Royster may get a better chance to show what he can do.

Offensive lineman Marcus Cannon was a player that the Patriots wanted on their roster because of his familiarity with the system. The team wants to head in a different direction and is not retaining veteran tackle Sebastion Vollmer. Cannon has decided to test the free agent market. His status is one the Patriots will keep a close eye on during the free agency period.
