Shock would be an understatement. I was so stunned, all I could literally do was laugh. Not only did we lose him, but now he will be on the best team we face.

It certainly has added more flare to a budding rivalry. We won't see him for a couple of years, but when we do, I hope we have the horses to be able to stop him. That team was already set to be scary for years.

Overall the season just ended on a sour note, but hopefully that provides motivation for the guys next season.

Also, I saw one of those RBs leaving ever since we talked about it at the beginning of the season (Monroe or Thompkins). Both wanted to be such a big part of the offense and with Buck still there it was going to be difficult to pull off. I will say I assumed Thompkins would have left instead but I guess with the OVRs it makes sense for Monroe to head home.

Surprised to hear Geezy say to the media that he felt Monroe "quit on the team". Some harsh words that I think will definitely come back around at the next Tidal Wave Party (well, 2 years from now when Monroe can play).

Good luck next season. Enjoying this as always and looking forward to the next chapter.

Oh one more thing....WTF "MID-MAJOR" SCHOOLS?! Way to get stomped in the BCS Bowl Games.
You're right...I definitely thought that Tompkins would be the one we'd lose. Never in a million years would I have thought Deuce would be the one.

I ended up acing all of my promises I made to Tompkins - including him making the All-America team (as a return man).

You know Coach Geezy had to take a parting shot; he probably wouldn't have been as bitter if he hadn't gone to Bama of all places.

The season ended on a sour note and it feels like there has been no let up so far this off-season.

Both are equally bad. My cornerback situation is so bad. Seriously, I have a major concern about our pass defense next season.

Offensively, I think I will be able to redistribute Deuce's touches; I plan to try to get WR Jason Mason going next year. I am hoping he emerges as a top offensive weapon. We will find yards elsewhere.

We are really in a dangerous territory here. We really need to hit a few homeruns here in recruiting soon, or else this roster will soon start looking like the old Conference USA Wave. We have quietly watched our talent level take a big step back and this only makes it worse.

Appreciate it man. As much as I hated losing him, I must say the dynasty reporter in me does enjoy the sudden turn of events. It'll be interesting to see where this new subplot takes us down the road.

Perhaps in a couple of years, we'll get to see an epic Tony Tompkins vs. Deuce Monroe matchup. Tony is a guy we recruited as a 4-star player and I was excited about. Then Deuce came around and signed in the off-season, and was the superior prospect and took over the role Tony was supposed to take over. Now those two will get to face off a couple of times down the road.

I couldn't have scripted it much better than that!

Not only that, and I now wish I had reported this weeks ago, but I planned to "sign a scheduling contract" during this season with TCU to play them a couple of times (2024-2025); I had that idea even before the Pacman news because they have been stealing my recruits left and right as of late and I'd like to see them on the field. This now adds more juice to that matchup down the road.

Thanks for checking in all and Happy Thanksgiving!

What in the....wow, just wow...I never in a million years thought Deuce would bolt. I thought for sure it would be Tony, I would have bet on it. In some ways thank goodness they didn't both leave...I think Tony becomes the featured back, no question in my mind.

I just can't believe Deuce, especially with the number of touches he was getting...just stunning. But like you said, the dynasty reporter in you has to love it. It keeps you so challenged and the storylines are just perfection. Your report on it was excellent.

As for the secondary, things went from thin to downright ugly. It is a sad sad day when my Eastern Michigan corners are looking better on paper.

This may be one of your biggest offseasons ever ahead of you. A lot of questions for coach geezy to answer. Loving this more than i can say my friend. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Tell me about it man - this was quite a punch in the gut and totally unexpected. Like you, I thought Tompkins would be the one that would be disgruntled and leave.

I actually envision our senior Tim Powers (74 ovr pre-progression) carrying the load, basically in the Buck Johnson III role. Tompkins (70 ovr, 96 spd) will of course be more of the scat back, taking over for Deuce; although he probably won't be quite the receiver Deuce was (Tompkins' CTH rating is pretty bad). He will also continue to be our return guy.

The story of this upcoming season, without question, will be how does our secondary hold up. We've historically played a ton of man coverage and have been able to get away with it since we've had so many elite corners over the years. It'll be interesting to see how a lack of talent at that position plays out and effects our play-calling. I have a couple of very good safeties in LeCharles Smith Jr. and Brandon Davidson and they'll both have to be on their games next fall.

There is still time to correct some holes this off-season. I haven't advanced to the recruiting pool yet, but I am hoping there is a stud corner or two itching to play for the Green Wave. If not, we may find ourselves in some shootouts in 2023.

Appreciate the feedback and kind words as always man!

Britt McHenry of ESPN.com reports that Tulane redshirt junior DE Jonathan Schultz (83 ovr) will forgo his senior season and enter the 2023 NFL Draft. Schultz, a former 3-star recruit from Pullman, Washington, finished the 2022 season with 34 tackles, including 10 for a loss, along with a team-high 5 sacks and 3 defensive touchdowns.

According to ESPN Draft expert Todd McShay, Schultz has a projected 3rd to 4th round draft grade.

The jump to the NFL by Schultz along with the graduation of fellow starting senior DE Chad McGuire (89 ovr) will leave two massive holes on the Green Wave defensive line heading into 2023.

Tulane | No coaching staff changes
          Sun, 9 Jan 2023 06:45:01 -0700
Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that Tulane Green Wave head coach D. Geezy announced that he will be making no coaching staff changes in 2023.

Speaking at his annual "State of the Team" press conference, Geezy indicated that both Curtis Byrd and Steve Ellis will remain as his top lieutenants on offense and defense, respectively, despite the team's sub-standard finish to the 2022 season.

Geezy did indicate that some system tweaks are likely to be made on both sides of the ball, but they will be made by the coaching staff he already has in place.

Been a longtime lurker of this piece, and the recent headlines have me hooked. Deuce leaving is a huge blow to the team considering how well he produced and where he transferred. Pacman leaving could be a big blow, but since he wasn't a star, it shouldn't really be a game-changer. I wouldn't want it to happen, but if these type of transfers does happen to me in my Michigan 'nasty, I gotta love the potential reporting and such.

The storylines are just unreal and are the #1 factor that makes your chise great in my opinion. Tough way to end the season and some tough departures. Somehow, I suspect Geezy and the squad will bounce back better than ever, whether it's immediately or down the line.

Thanks David - Great to have you onboard.

Deuce leaving definitely hurt us on paper, not to mention it hurts my ability to come up with some fun headlines the next few seasons: "Deuce is Loose, "Deuce's Wild," etc.

I am confident in Tim Powers stepping up next season. I think he, along with Tompkins and his 96 speed, will allow us to not skip a beat.

No question. This is an important time for us. We are on the brink of falling off a cliff soon if we don't start recruiting better. Hopefully after progression, the depth chart won't look as "meh" as it does at the moment. It has been well-documented, but my cornerback situation really has me worried the most for next season. We may have some issues against teams that like to throw the ball a lot.

Appreciate it mang - Not sure how long your longest dynasty was, but this one that's going into year 14 has now more than doubled my previous longest running one (6 years), and the reward has been tremendous. So many storylines come naturally and intertwine over the course of a dynasty run this long; this Deuce thing is just the latest example.

I'm looking forward to the off-season recruiting. We have some big holes to fill here if we want to make a run at another national title, something we have a little extra motivation for this season since the national championship game will take place at the Superdome!

some tough offseason losses. I've never seen a DE declare early when only rated 83, and have NEVER seen a kicker declare early. Tough losses.

That is a lot of talent walking out the door and the early departures to the NFL are just a shot in the teeth at this point in an offseason that has been nothing short of brutal. I will say I was a little surprised by both especially Coleman who I felt had a very average year kicking. I know Coach Geezy will bring in the talent though. I have faith.

A lot of very interesting prospects for you, although I am little worried not to see any cornerbacks mentioned. I like the focus on rebuilding in the trenches. You always work from the ball out has been my opinion. Hopefully you can snag at least one of the big guys.

Good luck in the rest of the offseason! Can't wait to see what happens next!

                            First off, Eve is hot!

I love that the recruiting battles always seem to come down to some combination of Tulane, LSU, Alabama and TCU. Seems like the Horned Frogs are recruiting very well. Also great to see Southern Miss in there as well to keep the rivalry hot. Seeing you land all three of these guys would be amazing but I think there's a chance you only grab one of them.
