    Ignore budgets on or off?

Trying to decide if I should turn this off. I'm about to start my franchise that I hope to carry over and play for years (we'll see)

I like the idea of having to find good team friendly contracts and factor in my budget, but I do not want to have tons of good players going unsigned cus teams don't have money.

Does turning off budget simply prevent teams from not being able to make realistic moves or does it introduce chaos and 400m contracts into franchise?

I have done both, starting a franchise with budget off I just think of it as baseball before revenue sharing and luxury taxes ect. Turning budget off makes trading A LOT easier, teams can absorb any contract but I find players get signed to longer deals and than you have teams full of guys in the minors making $20+ million and I did the math once for the Yankees and Dodgers and both had player salaries north of $500 million... WHATEVER!

I would think if you choose to use a roster with legends included you would want budgets off.

In 16 you had to turn off the budgets because by year 4 you would see Major stars sitting in FA and nobody able to sign them (User or CPU). I tested 17 thru 5 seasons and this release the CPU does a good job of moving players to adjust for budgets and in the 5th year the highest rated player I saw was an 803 OVR player but they were like 35 or 36 years old.

So if you wanna leave budgets on this year it works properly.

Not sure about this yr, but in years past I noticed turning Budgets off, that the CPU still attempts to stay within Budget, some go over a tad, but it wasnt anything crazy. I played with it off, but still kept myself within my budget.
It would be great if it was finally fixed after all this time, so you could just play with budgets on. But if you are concerned that its not totally fixed, you could just play with it budgets off, and have a house rule, that you will stick to your budget. When I start my Franchise, I will probably play with it off, but stay within my budget, unless I know for a fact that it has been fixed and wont be a issue years down the road.

His post was actually helpful because if the OP or anybody for that matter chooses to put Legends in their Free Agent pool it inflates the league average salary if you choose to sign them due to the legends demanding such big contracts...

As someone who has played a carry over from 14 with budgets on, I would recommend you turn them off. Your budget is still considered in the off season all it does is ignore team budgets during the season, which a little more real to life as budgets can shift during the season.

Plus with budgets on, I managed to get a budget of over 800 mil with stubs, etc. Though if the rumors are true none of that matters anymore.

Tedious but I think that if you are using 30 team control you would be able to micro-manage the entire leagues budgets if you had enough stubs for this correct?

Also cmon bro needed this advice like 2 weeks ago haha!

Well, it's how it used to be at least. Last time I played with budgets off was 12. I do think it's still the same though the fine print on the setting suggests that.

I probably never paid attention. I don't care as much about budgets during the year, I just was worried more about the offseason, but if teams budgets (CPU and Human) still matter during the offseason, then I may go with budgets off.

Just don't want teams like the Padres spending $100M in a offseason, you know?
