I swear some people are not playing the same game.
All I saw in that video was a centerfielder mis-play a fly ball. It happens.

If errors don't happen people will complain. When errors happen people will complain.

People want the game to simulate baseball and the players to be human until the game simulating baseball and the players being human provides an outcome that doesn't benefit them.

Re: How is this POSSIBLE??? Avoidable?

The fielder missing the base is just the games completely lack of situational intelligence from fielders and just happens every now and again on various plays.

The worst part though is the fielders absolute refusal to turn around after you've done it though, if they overrun a bag they just stop and look pleased with themselves, completely ignoring any attempt to make them run in the opposite direction. It's the same on wide throws pulling them off the bag, they stagger like an old man, then refuse to sort their feet out and return to the bag.

Like others have said, holding the button for the base is the fix but it shouldn't really have to be. There are situations where you want to be able to make the choice between running to the bag yourself of throw it to someone covering, but they are both essentially the same button so you have to either let the computer decide which to do of risk the fielders forgetting what bases are when you move them manually.

One or two mistakes I can overlook. Path-finding issue by a rookie player, no big deal. But the complete lack of situational intelligence, hustling on big plays with close scores and overrunning bases for no reason... it all starts to add up.

As for the laissez-faire "it happens" attitude, I'm beginning to attribute it to those who put the blinders on and don't really play any other sports titles or know anything about pathing AI. Gobs of people experiencing these issues.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a thread looking for help with issues that one was having with the game. But now I see its just another typical rant/complain thread.

My mistake. I'll gladly bow out of the conversation and let the ranting/complaining continue.

But I swear I've tried that before and nothing happened.

Then you pressed the wrong button. I'm not saying the game is flawless by any means, and there are some aspects of fielding where context/situational awareness could be improved.

You're complaining that the game isn't doing what you want even though you are doing the wrong thing. Not a good look.

So there's an easy fix that pretty much everyone has been using for some time and that's still unacceptable. Got it.

I suffered through a lot of 2K where AI players just get stuck on screens and Madden where players just collide with blockers. So I don't know where MLB's AI pathing is so inferior.

Oh yawn. I love when people say this stuff isn't happening, and it is happening.

Online is a broken mess and the only thing that keeps me coming back to offline is simulation baseball.

It's alright, clearly we're playing different games

Nobody said they weren't happening. They offered insight as to why they happened and offered help.

One issue is resolved for you and you quickly jump to something else and disregard the help. And I'm sure you'll find something else to complain about and disregard any help or suggestions offered to you.

I mean you started with missing the base and that was explained. Then you found a video online of a player misplaying a fly ball and that was explained. And now you complain about online.

If the game isn't working for you then why not go back to a version you enjoy? I mean you're clearly not looking for help with issues you're having with '17.

And we are playing different games because I'm actually playing '16.

It doesn't happen very often, but I've had grounders to first where I've hit Circle and he runs right by the bag never touching it. I don't know what causes it, because it will only happen 2-3 times in a complete season. But of course they come at the most inopportune time.

I know the plays you're talking about, I've encountered a lot of them. They have made me yell and swear in the past.
I've learned to try (try) to laugh them off because... This is a game.
Now, I play seriously, I want to win but I want the competition too and when THESE plays screw me over, I get angry.
But I've come back down to earth and realized, I play this game for fun and I don't get any type of compensation for winning so I want to enjoy the game more, win or lose, even if these screwy plays happen.
If you can overlook these little mishaps, you'll see there's a lot of great things there for our entertainment.
AND, IRL screwy plays happen, maybe not like this but crazy things happen that you'd never believe unless you see it happen IRL, just roll with it maaaaaan...

The OP's primary issue has been addressed with a feasible solution. Otherwise, BK is right as this thread is turning into rant thread and those always prove to be unsuccessful.

                              I'm closing this up.
