Man, your young defense has been giving opposing teams fits all season so far!

As the two above me have already mentioned that was one lights out defensive performance from such a young unit.

Funny thing is, Vanderbilt are a lot stronger a team in this game than many would have thought. In my Kentucky dynasty, there currently 6-0 and im only into year 2

Solid All around team effort in that win, gotta love when your defense steps up like that.

I knew Vandy would pose a bigger threat than they should! Glad you pulled through with a good defensive showing. 2 safeties in one game is wild.

This Tulane team is one of my favorites because they're scrappy. It's not a juggernaut, every victory is earned and losses are deserved when the team decides they didn't feel like going 100%. It keeps it interesting, because as a reader, I never know what the result will be!

            Thanks brother.

Cal is in a very interesting spot here and certainly appears to be a team on the rise. That said, I cannot bet against USC, who literally has not lost a game in this dynasty since the 2021 season (which, now that I look, is a loss that came to Cal in a 34-31 overtime loss at the Colesium and cost the Trojans a national title shot...very intriguing matchup indeed ).

Thanks Rizzo...this 3-4 defense has been a blast; it just seems like it is designed to make plays all over. I haven't had this much playing defense in a long time.

Thanks man...as mentioned in the game story, Vanderbilt seems to give us problems whenever we play and can usually hang with us for about three quarters before we start to flex our muscle.

Overall though, I haven't seen much success from the perrenial SEC East cellar dweller over the course of this dynasty. I am glad that they're at least starting to look respectable again.

Yes...as noted above, the switch to the 3-4 has really rejuvenated my eagerness of playing defense (that along with DB Jonathan Smith's monster year so far). It's almost like we are playing offense when on defense, forcing the issue now.

SilverBullet, so glad to have you back on this forum. Your input truly has been missed.

Thank you for the kind words my friend...I think I have really found the perfect sliders for my skillset and I also think playing only 1 game per week has really helped limit my ability to get too good at the game, and that has in-turn made losing a strong possibility every week if I am not on my game.

I am gunning for a national title this year, but there are still so many landmines remaining on our schedule and one slip up will likely doom us.

I appreciate everyone's great feedback as always! After spending some time in Canada this past weekend for work, I am now back in town and ready to get this thing back on track.

              Green Wave News Clips

Starting QB Bryce Allen has played in only 1 of Tulane's past 11 games.

Tulane | QB Allen set to start throwing this week
              Mon, 23 Sept 2024 08:01:12 -0700

              report courtesy Eve Jewell, TulaneInsider.com

Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that Tulane senior QB Bryce Allen (94 ovr) will begin throwing this week with the team's training staff in hopes of a possible return for the Green Wave's pivotal week 8 home game versus #3 ranked and defending national champion Florida following next week's bye. If Allen's injured shoulder responds well, he could return to full practice during the bye week following the team's game this week versus Auburn at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Allen has not played since suffering a mild labrum tear during the Green Wave's 27-10 win at Boise St. in week 1 of this season. It was Allen's second shoulder tear in the past year, an injury that caused him to miss most of the second half of last season.

"They will not rush Bryce back because of the repeat nature of his injury, having suffered the same injury last season, however they'd really like to have him back in time for the Gators. They won't play him if he has a 'questionable' tag and possibly even if he has a 'probable' tag, because they want to see him fully healthy before returning to the field" said a source close to the team's thinking.

"They love how Jimmy McBride has played and see a lot of encouraging signs that he could be the guy moving forward after Allen leaves, but make no mistake about it - the team views Allen as the starter and he will be re-inserted into the lineup just as soon as he is healthy."

Tulane | QB Mason, OT Meyer each choose LSU
              Tue, 24 Sept 2024 07:33:01 -0700

              report courtesy Samantha Ponder, ESPN.com

Samantha Ponder of ESPN.com reports that a pair of prized 4-star Louisiana recruits - QB Rob Mason (6-2, 207 pounds, #7 rated QB prospect, 4.48-40 time) and OT Erik Meyer (6-8, 315 pounds, #6 rated OT prospect, 4.90 40-time) - have each committed to LSU, choosing the Tigers over in-state rival Tulane.

Both players had visited with Tulane weeks ago for the Green Wave's game versus Notre Dame and had narrowed down their school choices to Louisiana's top two college programs. Both players were rated very high on both Tulane and LSU's recruiting boards this season according to sources, and each chose LSU despite watching the Tigers get pummeled by the Wave during their official visits to Baton Rouge two weeks ago.

Mason, a left-handed thrower who high school teammates call "White Mike" for his speed and similar playing style to former NFL QB Michael Vick, could possibly start immediately for the Tigers next fall.

Tulane | DB Smith's Heisman buzz rising
              Tue, 24 Sept 2024 08:41:47 -0700

              report courtesy Dianna Russini

Updating her previous report, ESPN.com's Dianna Russini reports that the feeling amongst several of the Heisman voters is that the Heisman stock for Tulane S Jonathan Smith (85 ovr) has risen significantly in recent weeks and that he is considered a "very legit contender" for the award. This season, Smith currently has 44 tackles to go along with 8 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 4 interceptions, and 2 defensive touchdowns while also adding 6 punt returns for 97 yards, including a 63-yard return touchdown in a 49-21 win in week 4 versus LSU two weeks ago.

Smith is vying to join former Michigan DB Charles Woodson by becoming just the second defensive player ever to win the prestigious award.

Tough losing those two recruits to LSU but it will make playing them that much more meaningful.

It's crazy USC's last loss was to Cal...I see it happening again this week!

I hope Allen can make it back in time for the game against Florida.

Yes, I was very disappointed about losing those two recruits, but I found it important to highlight it for the very reason you stated, especially in Mason's case. I really wanted him on my team and was upset he signed elsewhere but at the same time was excited to see him go to our rival; it'll make those games versus them all the more fun, and they badly needed a QB.

In regards to Allen, with the repeat-nature of his injury, I have decided that I will not play him until he is completely off of the injury report - I will not play him if he is questionable or probable, so that will add a little bit of random drama to the situation. He has 1 week left of "full injury" status and then we have the bye week, so hopefully he's ready to go for the big match-up versus the defending champs in a couple of weeks.

You're alone on the Cal-USC prediction. My money is definitely on the Trojans. That program is just a cut above all others in this dynasty. It doesn't really get a chance to get highlighted much in my report, but they're really sick on paper and I fully expect them to be in the mix for the national title once again.

                  Thanks as always brother!

I'm torn because I can't decide if I'm supposed to be rooting for you or USC. I just hope y'all meet in the title.

It'll be so amazing if your safety wins the Heisman. I don't know if I've ever even seen a finalist in all my years playing these games.

I totally feel you on the 3-4. In my 07 dynasty I switched from 4-3 to 3-4 and it's made defense more exciting.

I am finally all caught up my good friend and I apologize for being away for so long. Tough to lose out on the pair to LSU but the storyline seed you have planted with "White Mike" is brilliant. That should be a fun player to watch for the next several years.

Love that you got Smith up there in the Heisman voting. If you actually pull that off it would be incredible. I don't think I can ever recall even seeing a defensive player mentioned.

Didn't realize you were a USC fan...boy has that team been screwed in recent years. They arguably should be the 3-time defending national champion, but sadly they've been inexplicably held out of the title game in 2 of the past 3 seasons.

Same here on the defensive Heisman finalist. I have never seen it before in all my years of gaming. I just hope he can keep up the pace while also maybe adding another punt return touchdown to help pad the resume.

Great to hear from you as always brother...I know you've had a rough go around these parts as of late.

I am definitely looking forward to the White Mike era in Baton Rouge. I am almost glad they stole him from me; our rivalry needed a little bit of juice added to it, and this could possibly do the trick if Mason turns out to be any good.

As mentioned above, I too have not seen a defensive guy in the Heisman picture. It is amazing how every once in a while, an unexpected person pops up out of nowhere to become a superstar. Reminds me of our old pal Mark Richards.

Plus I am not even user-controlling this guy defensively; he is this good on his own. I hope he can keep it up!

2023: Sophomore RB Tony Tompkins' first of two punt return touchdowns on the day increased the Green Wave lead to 20-7.

Last Meeting: Last season, then-#12 ranked Tulane had no problems disposing of then-#21 ranked Auburn in a 48-16 blowout victory at Jordan-Hare Stadium. A then-sophomore Tony Tompkins dazzled, returning two punts for touchdowns, despite the Green Wave only having one punt return touchdown in head coach D. Geezy's previous 13 years at Tulane combined. The only SEC West team that Geezy has not lost to since the school's return to the SEC in 2014, the now-15th year head coach has a perfect 10-0 record versus the Tigers.

2022: Former Tulane CB Garrett Shuler (LEFT) caught an interception and then-sophomore LB Chuckie Coley (RIGHT) had a game-clinching fumble return touchdown on what was a dominant day for the Green Wave defense.

Last Meeting at Venue: Then-#2 ranked Tulane played one of its sloppiest games of the year, however they were still able to control the game, rolling past overwhelmed Auburn 35-7 two seasons ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Despite the team putting up 35 points, the Green Wave offense managed to score only 1 touchdown on the day. The team would however get 4 field goals by former Wave PK Chris Coleman, defensive touchdowns from both former DE Jonathan Schultz and then-sophomore LB Chuckie Coley, and a safety by FS LeCharles Smith.

I hope the steamrolling of Auburn carries into another year, because I HATE Auburn lol. They're definitely not as strong on paper, and their record reflects that.

That QB seems to protect the ball well, 12 TD and no interceptions! Their top 3 look to be really strong, averaging over 120 yards on the ground and another with 116 through the air...they seem to be the bread and butter. Based on the numbers it seems they use a balanced attack to keep opponents guessing. If you can take away one side, either run or pass, I think they may crumble by leaning on the other.

                            Good luck!

PS I have always, and will always love those Tulane uniforms!

Don't let the numbers fool you, they've only lost to quality teams in one possession games. And they've blown out the other teams that they've played. Don't be surprised if it's closer than ratings project.
Didn't realize Tompkins did so little last game, or that he was averaging 9 yards per carry. There's your Heisman finalist.

Also, looking at just stats, their QB is ice cold and I'm really ready for your starter to come back.
At Loyola we weren't big fans of Tulane, but I'm still wishing you luck. Roll Wave!

I hadn't even had a chance to study their stats; 12 touchdowns and no interceptions by their QB at mid-season is amazing, though it is probably a by-product of a dink and dunk type of offensive attack. I have a feeling his no interception streak will go down in the dome this week though.

They have a pretty good big 3 and an offensive system that could give us problems if they get some early first downs and early momentum. We really need our pass rush to be on-point once again in this one.

I'm with you on the uniforms. Love all the different combinations this team has, especially when we bust out the all-green.

Auburn could surprise, especially since we sometimes have trouble versus spread, no huddle teams. Even still though, we should be strong enough to pull away from this team in the second half unless we shoot ourselves in the foot and/or come out unprepared.

Tompkins' YPC average is pretty insane, though his monster game versus Notre Dame (18 carries, 337 yards) is the main reason for his godly run averages. As for last week, I decided to lessen the load for Tompkins in this past game since he kept getting injured in the previous contest. I didn't have an opportunity to highlight that with an article or tweet prior to the game, but Tompkins played the last game with extra padding on his elbow and I wanted to limit him just because it felt like the real life thing to do. Depending on the game flow, don't be surprised if his workload is low this week too; we gotta keep this guy healthy for Florida in a couple of weeks.

He actually started the preseason on the Heisman list and has been stellar all year, so it is weird to me that he isn't on there anymore, even though I would say that I like the fact that DB Jonathan Smith is one of the guys that has booted him off of it.

I have enjoyed using McBride and he's only going to get better. I feel like the future is bright with Jimmy Football, but you're right, it is time for our senior leader Bryce Allen to return to the fold. Hopefully he is ready to go versus Florida in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for checking in guys...it's game time!
