Then i came across the ESPN Classic games and saw that Sugar Bowl game and relived that. So I knew Allen tore it up in that game and I couldn't remember another one between then and now.

Obi should be the starter even when Allen returns, IMO.
Yeah, I haven't gotten around to doing a Ryan Jean Dedication Page. A part of me would like to, but another part of me feels like I'd be opening up Pandora's Box in doing so. There are at least 3 other players that I think deserve one, at least one of whom deserves one over Jean (QB Jamie Manning from 2016-2018), so I left it alone.

Reggie Moore deserves his own special place because a.) he was really our first "big name" signing, b.) he is our only Heisman winner and c.) he's the player that best represents our ascension to the SEC and national prominence. He's the player that sort of ushered Tulane into the national scene and he's still to this day, at least in my eyes, the face of Coach Geezy's 15-year tenure.

As far Obi vs. Bryce - I think it would be very hard for me to sit a 94 overall rated senior in favor of a 75 overall junior. You know I hate bringing video game talk into this dynasty report and try to avoid it as much as possible, but the ratings grades show that Allen is just by far the superior player. When he's healthy, he's going back in. That said, Obi may play himself into some sub-package work if he keeps this up and right now may even be auditioning for the starting job next season.

Itsbigmike raises an interesting conundrum if Obi continues to have the hot hand, what do when Allen returns. I don't think you can not start Allen but on the other hand it would be tough to pull the plug if Obi is flying high. I have to wonder to, as far as record as a starter, Obi I think is ahead of Allen all time.

I absolutely love how you are using Brown Jr. He is really filling out that "Percy Harvin" -esque roll nicely and gives your offense some teeth I feel it has lacked in recent seasons. Speaking of freshman, how is Sean Williamson doing? I see him on the stat line occasionally and I had such high hopes for him this season.

Good luck against Kentucky. Can't get caught looking ahead to Alabama. Any chance we get a news story with how Deuce is doing now that I assume he has taken over the lead role for the Crimson Tide?

Loving this as always my friend.
As I mentioned above, I think it would be difficult to sit Allen. At this point though, I just hope to one day have that option - Allen is listed as doubtful for the second straight week and I have already vowed not to play him until he's fully healed and off the injury report. We could be looking at another week, two weeks, or possibly longer. To answer your curiosity - Allen is 28-7 as a starter and Obi is 5-2 as a starter; so there's really not enough sample size there, though Allen does lead in terms of winning percentage.

Michael Brown Jr. has been money. The guy really does catch EVERYTHING, whether it is out of the backfield or from the slot position. He's just absolutely tailor-made for our offense. I'd even go as far as to say that his hands are even better than Reggie Moore's back in the day. He currently has a team-leading 35 receptions for 414 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Blue chip true freshman OLB Sean Williamson is currently 6th on the team with 29 tackles, along with 10 TFLs and is tied with fellow blue chipper, sophomore DE T.J. Pearson, for the team lead with 5 sacks. We use Williamson all over - OLB in most 3-4 formations, DE in a couple of 3-4 formations, and DE in most nickel and dime sets. I think when all is said and done, he will surpass our boy Mark Richards as the best linebacker this dynasty has ever seen.

Regarding Kentucky - every once in a while, you get reminded not to ever take a game for granted, and that moment for me most recently came against Auburn. I am trying to make sure I stay focused on the task at hand before turning the page to next week's Tidal Wave Party and Deuce's revenge. However, you already know that my mind has been churning for months now on how Deuce Monroe week may play out. You can't help but get excited for that matchup and all the implications it will have. I even have some extra Alabama band custom sounds downloaded into the game to add to the Tuscaloosa atmosphere. The game is gonna be epic.

Game 8, Year 15 Preview (2024 season): Kentucky Wildcats at #12 Tulane Green Wave

      GAME 8 PREVIEW

      Courtesy

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

      ....................27 1/2....................

2023: LEFT - The Kentucky offensive line was no match for freshman DE T.J. Pearson as the former blue chip recruit finished the afternoon with 3 sacks on the day. | RIGHT - Senior RB Tim Powers pounds his chest following a 6-yard carry that put him over the 100-yard mark for the first time last season after Geezy allowed him to stay in the game early in the fourth quarter.

Last Meeting: Then-#10 ranked Tulane had no problems disposing of an overwhelmed Kentucky squad, ousting their SEC crossover rivals 42-7 last season at rain-soaked Lexington. Then-junior WR Brandon McIntyre's strong 8 reception 146 yard 2 touchdown performance helped lead the Green Wave offensive surge while then-true freshman DE T.J. Pearson's breakout 3-sack performance helped catapult the visiting Green Wave to their 9th straight victory over the Wildcats.

2022: Tulane QB Bryce Allen (LEFT) threw for 248 yards and 4 touchdowns two season ago versus Kentucky while former Wave star RB Buck Johnson III (RIGHT) rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries.

Last Meeting at Venue: Then-#1 ranked Tulane found themselves in a tight battle, limping into halftime versus lowly Kentucky with just a 17-10 lead. However, after the halftime break, the Green Wave would reel off 28 unanswered points en route to running away with a 45-10 blowout victory two seasons ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Then-sophomore QB Bryce Allen threw 4 touchdown passes, 3 of which went to then-sophomore WR Brandon McIntyre, and former Wave RB Buck Johnson III rushed for 122 yards and a score, as Tulane improved to 8-0 on the season.

2014: LEFT - RB Reggie Moore dives into the end zone following a 31-yard touchdown run which tied the game at 35-35 in the fourth quarter. It was his first of two 4th quarter scores. | RIGHT - Tulane freshman PK Cody Bennett drills a 21-yard field goal as time expires to give his team the 45-42 win over the Wildcats.

Last Meeting III - Legacy Classic: Ten years ago, during their first season back in the SEC, then-#20 Tulane had one of its finest offensive performances over head coach D. Geezy's 15-year tenure, winning in a 45-42 shootout over Kentucky in 2014. Former Green Wave quarterback and current offensive coordinator Curtis Byrd went 22 of 30 for 445 yards and 3 touchdowns while then-true freshman star RB Reggie Moore accounted for 185 yards from scrimmage and 2 clutch fourth quarter touchdowns during the seesaw battle. Freshman PK Cody Bennett's 21-yard field goal as time expired clinched the win for Tulane, improving their record to 7-1 while dropping the Wildcats to 0-8 on the season.

I just looked at Moore's dedication page. it makes me want to look back into the annals of the dynasty. What an all-purpose phenom. Crazy to me that he won the Heisman as a slot back instead of a feature back. Clearly still a feature player.

Yeah that Kentucky roster is bad, but what is worse is that it's so bad with SO MANY upper classmen. It's like they took on all walk on's for four years instead of recruiting.

And understood about the Jean dedication page. I have more of an attachment to him because I came into this dynasty right before his recruiting year, so he was the first big star I got to follow along with in real time, though I obviously understand Manning's big stardom for the Wave. So, it could be tough to try to draw the line there. I say, any Heisman winners get a dedication page.

As many have already said, that UK roster is downright ugly. Take care of business early and don't even let these guys get a sniff of an upset. Then we can focus on "The Return of the Deuce."

polar opposites, Kentucky is strong in my dynasty and racing up the polls.

Do work, it shouldn't be tough. This wouldn't be one of those "sleeper" losses, it would be a loss to permanently tarnish Geezy's legacy...No pressure lol

Haha...yeah it's pretty bad. They're slowly improving, but still not where they need to be.

I have mentioned it before, but I have done some "creative scheduling" for both Kentucky and for Vandy these past couple of years, to try to get them some wins and get back to respectability. It has helped them improve their prestige level these past couple of years and they both look to be pulling in decent recruits now, so hopefully these teams start to ascend.

I’m not going to take this game for granted as an automatic win, but I think as long as we can keep RB Michael Cleveland in check, we should be okay. And even if we don't keep him in check, we should probably still be alright. lol

Yeah man...those Reggie years are probably what kept my drive for this dynasty going through years 5 through 8. Even to this day, the nostalgia of the Reggie Moore days keeps me fired up and looking for the next star. He is pretty much my favorite video game player I have ever had. I enjoy going back and reading those years specifically in Part I every few months.

I took a look at the fact that they have so many low-rated upper classman; the good news is, through my intervention with the scheduling, they seem to have some decent young talent coming in right behind them at similar levels, and they are pulling in some decent 3-star players now rather than a host of 1-stars and walk-ons. I'd say they should be C/C- range within the next couple of years, which at least makes them somewhat of a threat again.

Jamie Manning was incredible. The guy pretty much went 40-0 as a starter (his only two losses came in games in which he was hurt very early, including our 2017 national title game loss to USC). I didn’t do a dedication page for him, but he’s the first pictured-player of this Part II project for a reason.

Yep...After what Auburn did to us, I am laser-focused for this one. I hope to build a nice early lead and possibly be in position to rest some guys in the second half in preparation for the Tidal Wave Party and our bout with Mr. Monroe.

Haha, I was just thinking about that not too long ago. If this was real life, I wonder if Coach Geezy would be feeling some heat right about now. I'd hope he has done enough to earn himself a lifetime pass as Tulane's head coach, barring a few losing seasons.

Thanks for the responses as always guys...I really appreciate that this thing still interests you, now literally over two years into this Part II project. I had no intent on this dynasty going this long, but I am still having a blast and see no end in sight right now.

Time to tangle with the Wildcats!

Game 8, Year 15 (2024 season): Kentucky Wildcats at #12 Tulane Green Wave

                        N/R 15 -- 3-5 (0-5)
                        #12 34 -- 7-1 (4-1)

WR Brandon McIntyre's 62-yard third quarter touchdown helped Tulane open up a 24-7 third quarter lead as the Green Wave continues its quest to add a third national title banner to the two shown above.

Tulane unimpressive in 34-15 victory over heavy-underdog Kentucky, loses RB Tompkins for a "significant period of time" due to yet another shoulder injury | Despite the win for the Wave, Kentucky exposes several weaknesses in an overall lackluster performance | Tulane must get its act together quickly with trip to face RB Deuce Monroe, #4 ranked Alabama next weekend in the Tidal Wave Party

New Orleans, LA -- A Pyrrhic Victory is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. Someone who wins a Pyrrhic victory has been victorious in some way, though the heavy toll negates a true sense of achievement or profit. Unfortunately for the Green Wave, the antiquated war term is the best way to describe its lackluster performance in a 34-15 "win" Saturday night over Kentucky at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Not only was the Green Wave unimpressive performance-wise, but the team was dealt a devastating blow as star junior RB Tony Tompkins' (80 ovr, 97 spd) often-injured shoulder finally gave out, forcing him to leave the game after just one carry and likely putting him out for the balance of the season. Redshirt junior RB Greg Pierce (81 ovr, 90 spd) took Tompkins place and had a career-high 103-yard performance however, and helped the Wave overcome a myriad a mistakes versus the 27 1/2 underdog Wildcats.

With RB Tony Tompkins now injured, former 3-star athlete recruit and fifth year senior Greg Pierce will now be thrust into a larger role.

The game got off to a horrid start for the Wave, as Wildcats RB Michael Cleveland took a 3rd and 2 carry, broke two tackles and ran the distance for a 71-yard opening possession touchdown that gave his team a surprising early 7-0 lead. Cleveland carved through the Green Wave defense like a knife through butter and finished the night with 144 yards on 24 carries, despite playing behind what many believe is the worst offensive line in the SEC.

"We're just not getting enough hats on hats and controlling our gaps well enough," said Tulane first year defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar, whose newly installed 3-4 defense has faced some growing pains this season versus the run.

Following Cleveland's score, Tulane would answer right back. Following Tompkins' 12-yard carry and subsequent injury on the Wave's very first play from scrimmage, Pierce made his presence felt right away. The fifth year senior's 51-yard touchdown run, two plays after Tompkins injury, quickly tied the game back up at 7-7. The seldom-used former 3-star athlete recruit has had a rough go during his time in New Orleans, coming into the game with only 74 carries for 222 yards, good for a paltry 3.0 yards per carry average, however he shined Saturday when called up and could be in line for a much larger role now with Tompkins out.

"Greg will tell you himself that he's not happy with the way he's played during his time with us, but he's got a chance here to possibly add a final chapter to his book here," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy, who would not elaborate on Tompkins' injury but did concede that he could be out for a significant period of time.

"We we still sprinkle in Michael Brown Jr. in the passing game and option game as we have all year, but you can expect Pierce to see a fair share of carries from here on out as well as freshman FB J.J. Williams, depending on the length of time Tony is out."

QB Obi Clemons was sacked 5 times during the game, including twice by Kentucky DE Chase Anthony (above), and the team could be making changes to its lineup up front as a result.
Tulane would go on to outscore Kentucky 31-8 the rest of the way, getting a 30-yard pick-six from senior LB Chuckie Coley along with two touchdowns from QB Obi Clemons (one passing, one rushing) in the third quarter. However the win was marred by Clemons' three interceptions thrown along with his offensive line giving up 5 sacks to an unimpressive Wildcats defensive unit.

"I thought we did what we had to do to win today, especially after getting the wind taken out of our sails morale-wise with Tony going down. That said, this was as ugly of a blowout win that I can remember," said Wave offensive coordinator Curtis Byrd, who said changes could be on the way to the team's offensive line.

Tulane (7-1) will travel next week for a huge matchup at #4 ranked Alabama (7-0) in their annual Tidal Wave Party rivalry game. Aside from the major SEC stakes on the table (Alabama can essentially clinch the SEC West with a win), the game marks former Tulane and Alabama transferee RB Deuce Monroe's first matchup versus his former team. The speedy 5-8 177 pound scatback from Doaz, Alabama transferred from Tulane back to his home state following his true freshman season, and is second on his team with 551 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns this season, despite playing behind senior Heisman candidate RB Cameron Miller. Monroe left the Green Wave despite an impressive rookie campaign that saw him account for 1,310 all-purpose yards and 9 touchdowns.

"We have had this date circled on our calendar for a while now and I am sure Deuce has done the same," said Geezy.

"I still don't quite understand all that happened there with Deuce and why he left us so abruptly and didn't honor his commitment to this team, but I'll leave it at at that...may the best team win."

Notes: A team source has indicated that Tompkins is feared to have suffered a separated shoulder and could miss up to two months, pending tests early next week. The injury comes as no surprise, as Tompkins has suffered multiple injuries to the same shoulder over the course of his career at Tulane, and even sports a protective sleeve on his right arm during games...When asked about QB Bryce Allen's availability for next week's tilt versus Alabama, Geezy indicated after the game that Allen continues to do light throwing in practice and will be re-evaluated early next week. The team will have a bye week following next week's game at Tuscaloosa, and some speculate that the team could wait until after the bye to allow Allen to return to the field. Like Tompkins, Allen is nursing a recurring shoulder injury, Allen's being a torn labrum.

The Green Wave will need more big plays like the one they got from LB Chuckie Coley in the second quarter if they want to add to their 6 SEC title banners at the top of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome rafters.

In a scene that's becoming all-too-familiar for the Green Wave defense, Kentucky RB Michael Cleveland's early 71-yard touchdown run on the game's opening possession gave the Wildcats an early 7-0 lead.

Kentucky LB Joe Horne's first quarter interception thwarted a red zone opportunity for the Green Wave with game tied at 7-7 early.

QB Obi Clemons had an up-and-down performance overall, throwing for 297 yards and a touchdown while rushing for another, however he was sacked 5 times and also threw 3 interceptions during the contest.

Clemons was able to fit this pass in nicely into double coverage, however Kentucky FS Sam Hobbs' big hit resulted in freshman WR Adam Lawson losing his grip of the football and SS Kasey Robinson (#44) was able to corral it for a fourth quarter interception.

Senior WR Brandon McIntyre found holes in Kentucky's secondary throughout the night and finished the contest with 5 receptions for 118 yards and a score.

Solid win over Kentucky although based on their roster that was to be expected. Hard to lose a starter like that but his replacement did well. Huge game coming up it looks like with the Tide.

Well I won't lie and say I'm not worried. You're going against probably the best backfield in the nation. I expect you'll know to load the box, but don't let them get behind your secondary either...

I've been trying something similar with trying to raise up programs in my 07 Clemson dynasty by changing offensive and defensive systems to match personnel. FSU is 8-2 as we fly to Tallahassee to play them and South Carolina has two wins after going 0-24 the last two years, but I haven't figured out how to engineer a winning season at LSU from afar.

Anyway, I can't wait to see what happens. Hope you hang on for the upset.
