Thanks man. The game was played by the time this post was made, but I must say that with all the injuries, we are definitely getting tested this season. And I LOVE it!

Game 11, Year 15 (2024 season): #24 Tulane Green Wave at Ole Miss Rebels

        #24 41 -- 8-3 (5-3)
        N/R 23 -- 5-6 (2-6)

LEADING MEN: Freshman QB Jimmy McBride (LEFT) and freshman FB J.J. Williams (RIGHT) each played a pivotal role in helping the Green Wave win for the first time in nearly a month.

QB Jimmy McBride accounts for 3 touchdowns as #24 Tulane pulls away from Ole Miss late in 41-23 victory at chilly Oxford; Geezy: Redshirt freshman to start again next week | Led by freshman FB J.J. Williams' 131-yard effort, Green Wave gets strong rushing performance out of backfield committee to help end its two-game losing skid | Wave's injury bug hits already-thin defensive backfield as top CB Harrison suffers season-ending injury | Team will host unbeaten #6 Southern Miss at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome next week with upset and revenge on its mind

Oxford, MS -- Tulane redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride had not started since week 6, when he turned the ball over fives times on the way to his team losing 47-24 to heavy underdog Auburn at home, resulting in him being benched. Fast forward several weeks later, and it was McBride who the Green Wave would need to turn back to with each of their top 2 signal callers out with injuries, and he delivered, leading the Wave to a decisive 41-23 victory over Ole Miss at near-freezing Oxford. The 5-11 redshirt freshman from North Carolina and former 4-star recruit accounted for 3 touchdowns (2 rushing and 1 passing) while throwing for 273 yards to help his team win for the first time in three games.

Freshmen Jimmy McBride and Michael Brown Jr. got away with this celebration dance without a penalty following the second of two touchdowns on the ground by McBride.

The game got off to a hot start for the visiting Green Wave, who came in riding a two-game losing skid. McBride used both his arms and legs to lead a 13-play 82-yard game-opening drive that lasted 4:57 and culminated with a 2-yard touchdown run on an option-keeper.

Ole Miss was able to answer right back with an 11-play 80-yard touchdown drive of its own, getting a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Rudy Floyd to tie the game back up at 7-7.

Then, following a poor decision by WR Jason Mason, who chose not to field a kickoff that appeared to be heading out of bounds but didn't, the Wave's ensuing possession began from its own 4-yard line. The Rebels would quickly make Mason and his team pay as CB David McBride sacked Tulane's McBride (no relation) in the end zone for a safety, briefly giving Ole Miss a 9-7 lead. That lead was short-lived however.

A 36-yard second quarter field goal by sophomore PK Aaron Larson gave the Wave the lead right back with 5:14 to go in the first half. Then RB Michael Brown Jr.'s 40-yard touchdown scamper increased the lead to 17-9. Larson would also add a 44-yard field goal as the first half clock expired, giving his team a 20-9 lead going into the break.

McBride finished the first half an efficient 16 of 20 for 198 yards.

In the second half, the two teams played to a stalemate until a wild sequence near the end of the third quarter, a sequence that saw the two teams combine for 3 touchdowns during the quarter's final 25 seconds.

A 10-yard touchdown run by Floyd, his second score of the night, cut Ole Miss' deficit to 20-16. Wave senior RB Greg Pierce, who replaced Mason on kickoff returns following his earlier mistake, would then take the ensuing kickoff 80 yards deep into Rebels territory. Two plays later, McBride's second rushing touchdown of the day, this one from 16 yards out on a scramble, increased the Wave lead back to 27-16.

The pesky Rebels just would not go away however, and took advantage of an injury to Wave CB Tyler Harrison, who left the game late on their previous drive with what Tulane team sources indicate is a season-ending broken arm. Senior QB Tyrone Allen went right after Harrison's replacement, CB D.J. Keyes, who was normally the Wave's #2 cornerback. Keyes' misjudged a slant route pass attempt by Allen to WR Jon Hall, and it resulted in an 80-yard catch and run touchdown on the final play of the third quarter, cutting Ole Miss' deficit back to 27-23 heading into the fourth quarter. Hall finished with 4 receptions for 92 yards.

Tulane senior DT Sammie Jenkins played the best game of his career, coming up with 2 quarterback sacks on the night.
After a Green Wave punt early in the fourth quarter, the game turned after a big plays by the Wave defense, who finished the night with 4 team sacks. Star junior DB Jonathan Smith's interception that was returned to the Rebels 8-yard line set Tulane up in prime field position to take control of the game, and that they did.

A 10-yard touchdown pass by McBride to WR Lionel Parks on third and goal extended the lead to 34-23 with 6:28 to play.

Then, a few possessions later, Wave senior OLB Chuckie Coley's sack on Allen with 2:55 remaining on fourth and 1 at the Wave 23-yard line turned the ball over on downs. One play later, freshman FB J.J. Williams' career-long 77-yard touchdown run put the game away, making the score 41-23 with 2:42 to go. Williams finished the night with a game-high and career-high 131 rushing yards on just 10 carries, helping to spark a running game that had been stagnant in recent weeks following starting RB Tony Tompkins' injury approximately a month ago.

"Coach Geezy really wanted to run the rock and wasn't happy with the running game the past several weeks with Tony out," said Green Wave running backs coach Joey Roberts, who spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Ole Miss before joining his alma mater Tulane's coaching staff in 2021.

"I made the suggestion that we give the ball to the big fullback, who kind of reminds me a lot of myself, and J.J. came through for us with several big runs."

The story of the game however, was the play of McBride, who somewhat cooled off in the second half, but finished 21 of 33 for 273 yards with three totals touchdown, one interception, and a lost fumble. The player that teammates call "Jimmy Football," a play on the nickname of former Texas A&M star QB Johnny Manziel, earned plenty of praise from his head coach.

"I was impressed. He had the couple of turnovers but I thought he handled himself well despite the cold and windy elements and had an impressive showing," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy, who indicated in his post game press conference that McBride has earned the opportunity to start next week's game.

"I thought the time on the sideline may have served Jimmy well. We'll give him the opportunity to start again next week, and we'll see how it goes, but I was very encouraged with his growth from early in the season to now."

Tulane (8-3) will host #6 ranked arch rival Southern Miss (11-0) next week at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. The Golden Eagles, who are in line for a possible BCS Bowl berth with a win, defeated then-#6 ranked Green Wave 42-33 last season in Hattiesburg, and have beaten the Wave two of the past three times the two former Conference USA foes have met.

Redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride helped his team brave the elements to take home the win along with Player of the Game honors.

Ole Miss QB Tyrone Allen led his team's pregame chant on a frigid evening in Oxford.

The Rebels had difficulty stopping Green Wave WR Jason Mason early on, as the senior hauled in 4 receptions on his team's opening touchdown drive.

Tulane star senior RG Jay Bonner shoves RB Michael Brown Jr. in celebration of the freshman's 40-yard second quarter touchdown run that increased the Wave's lead to 17-9.

True freshman LB Sean Williamson and the Green Wave defense pressured Ole Miss quarterbacks all game long, finishing with 4 sacks as a team.

Just one possession after Tulane top CB Tyler Harrison was injured, Ole Miss took advantage as WR Jon Hall took a slant route versus replacement CB D.J. Keyes the distance for an 80-yard touchdown that made the score 27-23 at the end of the third quarter.

SS Evan Hodges and the Ole Miss defense had a difficult time versus TE Ronnie Parsons, who finished the night with a season-high 6 receptions for 95 yards.

Green Wave DB Jonathan Smith's interception early in the fourth quarter completely shifted the momentum back to Tulane and put them in position to take control of the game.

Following Smith's interception, QB Jimmy McBride's 10-yard touchdown pass to WR Lionel Parks increased the Green Wave lead to 34-23 with 6:28 remaining.

Wave freshman FB J.J. Williams quieted the crowd with his lumbering 77-yard touchdown run that put the game away, making the score 41-23 with 2:42 to go.

Finally caught up. It's been interesting to track Allen's tenure and it seems that he really was just a product of having Jean although he's also had some other great WRs at his disposal.

Another disappointing season but at least you know what you have in McBride now.

There we go, a bit rusty but a good win to grab some momentum going into the Southern Miss contest. A win this week would be a HUGE moral boost!

Yes...it seems my passing game success as a whole early on was due to the greatness of Ryan Jean. Brandon McIntyre and Jason Mason are no slouches, but no one has come close to the legendary 6-6 receiver's ability to just have passes thrown up to him deep downfield at a high success rate.

I'm really excited about the future of the program though; hopefully McBride finishes the year strong and makes next year's QB decision a foregone conclusion.

Thanks...it wasn't the most spectacular blowout, but it felt good to get a win and build up some confidence again. Both in terms of video game-time and in real-time, I literally had not won a game in a month, so it really was exciting watching those final seconds tick at the end of that win. I had forgotten just how thrilling it can be to win on this game after you've suffered a couple of losses.

Now we turn the page to Southern Miss, who has been downright dominate these past few years and has beaten us 3 of the last 5 times we've met. We'll feel really good about ourselves if we can knock this team off and end their perfect season and their possible BCS bowl appearance.

Thanks for checking in Lopaka...as I mentioned before, the thrill of victory was that much greater, with us coming off of the back to back losses; I had forgotten what that feeling was like. I'd also like to add that I forgot just how fun this game is once the real life games begin and the weather starts to turn!

Yeah I am hoping McBride finishes this year strong. This past game, I don't know what it was, but things just seemed to start clicking for him and I suddenly started having a blast using him. Maybe it's the whole "Jimmy Football" persona and look I have cursed him with

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

                        ....................Pick'em....................

2023: Tulane QB Obi Clemons displays his anguish after he was stuffed at the goal line by MLB Josh Perry (#52) on a potential game-tying two point conversion attempt late in the game.

Last Meeting: In last year's season finale, #6 Tulane fell behind 14-3 to unranked Southern Miss and never recovered, getting upset by their former Conference USA rivals 42-33 at chilly Hattiesburg. QB Obi Clemons' 5-yard touchdown run with 4:02 remaining cut his team's deficit to 35-33, however he was stuffed on a potential game-tying two point conversion option play. Golden Eagles star RB C.J. Ivey's 63-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes remaining helped clinch the Golden Eagles' third victory in the past five seasons over the Green Wave.

2022: Senior RB Buck Johnson III's game-winning 79-yard touchdown came with 7:49 remaining in the contest, making the score 30-26 and capping off a 23-point comeback. | With his team clinging to its 3-point lead, senior DE Chad McGuire read Southern Miss' screen pass attempt and picked the ball off at the Golden Eagles' 47-yard line with 4:22 to go and the USM offense would never see the ball again.

Last Meeting at Venue: Then-#3 ranked Southern Miss stormed out to a 23-0 lead, but behind a magnificent rushing performance by senior RB Buck Johnson III, #13 ranked Tulane came back and defeated the rival Golden Eagles 30-26 two seasons ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Johnson III, playing in the final home of his career, finished the night with a career-high 287 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, along with 39 receiving yards and a touchdown. His 79-yard fourth quarter touchdown gave his team the lead for the first time in the game with 7:49 remaining, a lead they'd hold onto the rest of the way. The win, which before last week was the largest comeback ever for the Green Wave under head coach D. Geezy, ended their former Conference USA rivals' perfect season and national title dreams.

Well well well.... if this isn't a sign I do not know what is. Tulane's season may not have gone to plan but to destroy your rivals Major Bowl hopes in the final game of the season, perfect! Talk about a slice of revenge for last season served cold.

USM have definitely been playing above their "paper stats" but besides Arkansas, have they really played anyone that good? Should have a field day against that secondary and nickle/dime packages. Actually, add the backers to that list too.

Know it won't salvage the season but if the team can't get up for this one, even with the key injuries, might be more trouble than we thought.

This is really a big game for us and gives us a chance to really end this regular season on a positive note. Southern Miss has given us fits in recent years, and they are certainly no longer an easy win for us the way they were in the not-so-distant past.

USM is legit, and has some good recruits coming in next year, so they're not going away anytime soon. I agree with you though, that back-7 looks ripe for the pickin'. I plan to spread them out early and let Money McBride do his thing.

This has been a very injury-ravaged season, but I am absolutely loving it. We need to close out the year strong, and build some momentum heading into 2025.

New Orleans, LA -- Whether you want to call him "Jimmy Football" or "Money McBride," or just plain ol' Jimmy, what's evident is that there is something special possibly brewing in New Orleans. Regardless of what moniker you want to call him, resurgent redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride's sudden rise to stardom continued Saturday afternoon, as the 5-foot 11 North Carolina native accounted for all 6 of the Tulane's touchdowns and almost 400 yards passing, guiding the 20th ranked Green Wave to an impressive 42-17 victory over previously unbeaten and 6th ranked Southern Miss at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Redshirt freshmen QB Jimmy McBride was on fire Saturday, completing 21 of his 27 passes for 395 yards and 5 touchdowns as the Green Wave ousted their former Conference USA foes.

In a game that saw the Wave convert an eye-popping 14 of 15 third down conversions, McBride's five touchdown passes in the first half allowed the home team to open up a 35-14 lead by the half and never look back.

The former 4-star recruit completed 16 of his 20 passes for 305 yards and 5 touchdowns in the first half alone, and his top target of the day, senior WR Brandon McIntyre, was the chief benefactor. McIntyre, who himself had 4 receptions for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first half alone, finished the game with 5 receptions for a career-high 217 yards, taking advantage of an overwhelmed Golden Eagles secondary during the final home game of his career, fittingly, on Senior Day.

"Watching the tape, we really saw an opportunity to take some shots and Jimmy's ball placement was phenomenal," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"To see his progression from earlier in the season to today is remarkable. I don't know if we've seen a game like today since (former Wave QB) Jamie Manning was here."

McBride's 6-yard rushing touchdown on an option keeper in the third quarter increased his team's lead to 42-14 and essentially put a bow on a big win to conclude Tulane's regular season.

WR Brandon McIntyre spun past one defender and broke two tackles on the way to this emphatic 72-yard third quarter catch-and-run touchdown.
Southern Miss (11-1) was in line for a BCS bowl appearance, but will now likely be headed to the Liberty Bowl after seeing its perfect season fall short on the final turn.

"They've beaten us 3 of the last 5 times we have played them, included last year. I'd be lying to say that it didn't feel good to end their streak and prevent them from going to a major bowl," said Geezy.

Tulane (9-3) will now await its bowl destination. The Green Wave is in bit of unfamiliar territory, not having to prepare for an SEC title game appearance, a game they've played in 8 of the last 9 seasons. The team will likely be headed to either the Capital One Bowl or the Cotton Bowl, depending on the outcome of Championship Weekend.

"Obviously this isn't the position we want to be in. We came into this season with sky-high, national championship expectations and now sit here at the end of the regular season with 3 losses," said Geezy, whose team played most of the year without starting QB Bryce Allen (94 ovr) in addition to injuries to starting RB Tony Tompkins (80 ovr) and top CB Tyler Harrison (78 ovr).

"With that said however, I think the needle is certainly starting to point up again for us. With Jimmy's emergence and with some of the guys we have coming back next year and a strong recruiting class, I honestly think we can get right back into the thick of things.

"We view this game and our eventual bowl game as preparation for next season, and I must say, we are off to an encouraging start.

Green Wave senior WR Jason Mason waves goodbye to the home crowd as he exits the Mercedes-Benz Superdome playing field for the final time.

Tulane senior WR Brandon McIntyre prepares to walk onto the Mercedes-Benz Superdome turf for the last time as a member of the Green Wave, and he'd go on to put on a show for the ages in his final home appearance.

True freshman WR Adam Lawson left Southern Miss CB Mike Davidson's jaw dropped following a spin move that eventually resulted in an early 24-yard touchdown for the Wave.

In what was one of Southern Miss' only highlights of the afternoon, true freshman DB Adam Parrish achieved "the trifecta," getting a sack, forced fumble, and fumble recovery all on one play. The big play eventually led to a Golden Eagles touchdown that tied the game up at 7-7 early.

Tulane senior CB D.J. Keyes stepped in front of Southern Miss WR Dylan Hughes to snag this interception late in the first quarter that eventually led to points early in the second quarter.

WR Brandon McIntyre had some words with a section full of Southern Miss fans in attendance following a reception.

Senior WR Jason Mason had a solid afternoon, catching 5 receptions for 42 yards in his final home game with the Green Wave.

Tulane freshman FB J.J. Williams pounds his chest after a fourth quarter carry for a first down. Williams led all Green Wave runners for a second week in a row, gaining 76 yards on 19 carries on the day.

A four year starter, stud senior DT Mikeangelo Daniels relishes his final moments on the Mercedes-Benz Superdome playing surface.

For the second consecutive week, redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride took home Player of the Game honors.

Exiting the Mercedes-Benz Superdome playing field for the final time, senior WR Brandon McIntyre went out in style, hauling in 5 receptions for a career-high 217 yards and 2 touchdowns.
