Played one half. Initial thought... I'm actually very very impressed.

Love the pace of the game and the weight of the players. It doesn't feel like they are running on air anymore.

Computer AI has blown me away with the tactical style they are playing. Granted, I have only played one half and this is FIFA so I'm sure there are plenty of issues that I'll start to notice.

But initial thoughts are positive.

EDIT: Also, I think I'm so blown away because I had very low expectations after the last few years. I feel this is a huge step in the right direction. Hopefully they don't make tons of changes to speed up the game and make it more arcade play like they have in the past to appeal to the masses.

Same here, very low expectations, put it on medium difficulty and AI actually makes sense sometimes now! They pass back, play a bit of midfield, they misplace passes, Ive seen some fouls too and thats 4min halves! Compared to PES this actually plays like football.

Played one match as PSG vs Chelsea on Pro.

0 Fouls (advantage played a couple times)

88%/85% pass accuracy

-Players feel weightier. Bigger difference between big/slow vs short/fast.
-Very glad they have the arrow below the players without the rest of the trainer stuff, helps a ton with the "pass didnt go where I wanted it to go" that is a complaint from many. Also helps when aiming shots. (If you watch the replay it shows pass path, intended target, direction of shot aimed)
-Felt very in control of my players direction/dribbling. Pulled off some nice simple but effective dribble moves with Neymar and Cavani to beat defenders.
-On one of my goals I had Di Maria breaking free and sent a driven through ball into open space. Luis was running with Cavani but had to try and get to Di Maria and attempted to go behind Cavani but tripped on Cavani's heels and stumble onto his hands and knees. Leaving both players open and the last defender in no man's land led to an easy volley.
-Seeing the crowd jump over their seats to get to the front row is pretty cool
-Graphics are clearly downgraded for the file size I'm guessing
-There is a new tackle mechanic if you hold B that I will have to figure out
-Overall felt very in control of what I wanted to do which may be why it felt so easy? Will have to try a game on World Class after the champions league match.

Played one quick game now, Real vs Atleti on Professional.

Pros:

• Initial La Liga presentation is top drawer
• I like the little arrow indicating where you're pointing a lot.
• Players feel responsive and the ball moves nicely
• The AI gave me a good challenge in a 1-1 draw. I've not played in a while but they seemed noticeably better going forward.

Cons

• It feels very fast, but that may be me being used to PES
• Penalties, whilst easier, still look ridiculous.
• Corners also still use that annoying reticule
• PES still feels like a game with more match variety

To be fair, only one game but it felt a lot smarter than 17 and didn't have the whole midfield minefield feel of 16 either.

Need to play a few more games but promising.

Didn't play 17 at all so I can't compare with it, but I really liked what I have seen. I played on legendary and loved seeing the cpu missing passes because of bad timing or bad connections. It looked like human errors. CPU missed also shots by some distance which is also nice to see. Didn't find the cpu OP or cheating. Pace and inertia are good, acceleration may be a bit too exaggerated and devastating. Positioning so far looked good. The ball size didn't shock me. Colours are bit too sepia to my liking. Crowd atmosphere is really nice. I have Roma Atletico in the background (on the same PC) and it is hard to tell if chants comes from the stadio olympico or the bernabeu.

Won 3-0.

Cavani back hell to Motta one timer off the inside of right post.
Through ball to Cavani where Luis just couldn't stop his momentum. Just stopped when I got the ball and he overran. One turbo burst in the box and drilled outside foot shot into side net.
A Cahill sliding tackle on Cavani on edge of box where I just got a quick pass off. Took him down for a red card and penalty.

CPU is much more human as far as their play goes. Mistakes like heavy touches on dribble that leave opening for tackles and passes that arent perfect.

Their dribbling definitely showed out when Hazard and others were in final third. New dribbling animations/mechanics are impressive.

It may be Chelsea's tactics but they give too much space to dangerous players like Cavani and I took advantage. 10 shots only 3 on target though.

Have barely tried to knew cross mechanics, the buttons are different from the old double tap triple tap. I need to check those out. They have "scoop lob" LT+X "driven lob/cross" RB+X "high lob/cross" LB+X and double tap X is low cross instead of the triple tap.

Going to play Athletico vs Bayern next. See how their defense is.

Bayern is definitelyyyy much more aggressive in trying to win the ball back. Having to be way more careful.

Tried to new scoop cross from the right wing, between penalty spot and edge of box. Almost 2-3 seconds of hangtime. Huge rainbow cross. Allowed Koke to move into position in front of Boateng who was backing up waiting for it and put a powerful header past Neur from a foot or two outside the 6 yard box.

First Wow moment for me so far.

Lost 1 nil to Bayern on world class. In truth it should have been 3 or 4 so AI finishing may be one to watch. Sliders for that if required though.

Bayern pressed the ball and then just dominated it, which was nice to see. The AI also seems much more prepared to play 1 2's and get inside you than I remember from 17.

Beat LA Galaxy with United 2 nil. Lots of time on the ball in that one so there does seem to be some variance which is promising.

Crossing definitely feels like it has more depth and variation.

That little arrow is so simple yet useful too.

Won 3-0. Goals at 79 and 83rd. Late goals will come from CPU pressing if you can be quick with the ball. 50/50 Possession. Both teams 5 shots with 4 on target. 5 tackles to 8. 90% to 91% pass accuracy.

I played one game on Professional - PSG (me) vs Manchester United. Also, default sliders.

FWIW, I was one who really enjoyed FIFA 17.

Positives:
-The players had weight to them. Bulky players really moved slowly/deliberately.
-The CPU plays the long ball often.
-The visuals are simply amazing.
-Crowd noise is very good but had an awkward quietness when I scored an away goal.
-Your AI teammates seem to smartly go into open space to receive a pass. Hard to explain but it is great.
-Long balls through the air don't rocket through the air at warp speed. They move slow enough so that you have a chance to get yourself into position to fight for it.
-Ease of subbing in/out players with R2.
-The pace of the game felt great with default Speed. Not fast at all.

Negatives:
-There is a white directional cursor underneath each player when you have the ball which tells you what direction he is going in. It absolutely sucks because you can easily get confused not knowing if the cursor is the ball. This cursor actually helps on goal kicks because you can direct the kick better but I really hope there's an option to turn this off.
-Seemed fairly easy to score. Finished 1-1 with not too many shots taken.
-CPU Lukaku missed an absolutely wide open net 2 feet from the goal with the goalkeeper out of position. I don't like easy scoring but that was pretty ridiculous.

Overall, I think it was great with only 1 game in. The most obvious difference will be the weight and speed of each individual player.

I have no clue if tactics work. I am highly doubtful that they will.

Looking forward to the retail version.

What a disappointment. This game is just Fifa 17 with a patch. On the surface it plays the same. There have been some specific tweaks to physics but nothing drastic. Passing is crisper.


Players still feel sluggish and there is an input lag. I will have to play the game a bit more to figure out specific gameplay improvements.

The lighting however is just horrible. Night matches look incredibly dull and even white Madrid jerseys dark. They improved the lighting a lot last year but this year they seem to have taken a major step back. The player details and crowds are improved but it is nothing drastic as they claimed it would totally transform the atmosphere. It's the same game pretty much on the surface and I will be sticking with 17 unless the final game is a major improvement.
