    2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread

Another regular season come and gone. Even though playoffs starting up, there's obviously more fans with teams out of playoffs than those in it, so might as well have something else to talk about.

For the Jays, their needs for next year would be:
    2B,LF,RF,Backup C,SP,RP
Obviously Bautista is gone. They also got some huge arbitration eligible players. Donaldson,Stroman,Osuna,Sanchez,Pillar. Getting Donaldson locked up long term would be HUGE for them.

    Backup C:
    Nick Hundley,Chris Iannetta

    2B:
    Howie Kendrick,Eduardo Nunez,Brandon Phillips,Neil Walker

    LF/RF:
    Rajai Davis,Jon Jay,J.D. Martinez,Jay Bruce,Carlos Gonzalez,Seth Smith

    SP:
    Jake Arrieta,Alex Cobb,Lance Lynn

    RP
    RH:
    Al Alburquerque,Matt Albers,Steve Cishek,Wade Davis,Tommy Hunter,Brandon Kintzler,Addison Reed,Sergio Romo,Bryan Shaw,Joe Smith,Craig Stammen

    LH:
    Fernando Abad,Zach Duke,Jake McGee,Tony Watson

What a cluster in Atlanta. John Coppollela has resigned as GM effective immediately as a result of violating MLB rules regarding international players. I wonder if this has to do with Maitan...

Pretty shocking...I wonder who they go get? I've heard rumors that Dayton Moore was interested in returning to Atlanta.

Wow. Just saw that about Coppy.

Will that affect any of the international players we signed?

A few of Jeff Passan's tweets:
        • Early on in investigation, little evidence had been found to corroborate a number of accusations levied against Coppolella, per sources.
        • To put it mildly, John Coppolella was not well-liked among his peers. Well-loathed would be more accurate. A lot of schadenfreude right now.
        • Before the Dayton Moore rumor mill gets to warp speed, know this: The Braves' GM job, especially if Hart goes, is exceedingly coveted.

Cardinals looking to reduce the clutter in the outfield.

Randal Grichuk apparently at the top of the move list

Sounds like Atlanta was looking for any excuse to get rid of their GM and this was it. I'd like to see Dayton Moore going there. He could probably lure some Royals free agents to the ATL.

As for the local nine here in Toronto the big story in the offseason will be Josh Donaldson and I think it's gonna take up a lot of airtime and ink until it's resolved in one fashion or another either with an extension or trade. I would place the area of least need (among those that have to be addressed) in the bullpen. All they really need there is a lefty specialist. The SP needs at least one starter but more likely 2 or 3. The OF is riddled with holes and 2B/SS is in need of capable backups. Hell, the Blue Jays need to address their bench if we're being completely honest here. It's been a LOONG time since they've had any bench depth.

The lineup needs someone who can provide something different in the form of speed and contact with a little bit of power. It's going to be a tough task to get someone like that IMO.

Ya, the more I read the more it sounds like we'll lose him plus other players. Braves are suspected of doing the same thing the Red Sox did a few years ago...overpaying for lesser players and then the money gets funneled to the better player. In the Red Sox case all players were declared FA's and they were banned from singing international players for a year.

If we lose Maitain, Acuna, Pache, etc, man...I can't even.

Reading some other stuff it sounds like Coppolella is a grade A loser...agents talking about how he blatantly disregarded tampering rules and contacted them about players who were still under contract. Just bad, bad, bad all around. Just when I thought things were looking up...

So Coppy out-Prellered A.J. Preller? Nice.

Weird that he's such a black sheep now seeing how he was such a belle of the ball as an well-deserving assistant being groomed to get that chance. Did he change his personality and conduct 180 since then? lol

Honestly, reading between the lines it sounds like the guy who steps all over people on his way up the ladder while making himself look great to his bosses. Then he gets to the top/near the top and his peers hate him, his employees hate him, and he's breaking rules. A recipe for this disaster unfolding now...

Would love to see Atlanta dust off Frank Wren and install him as GM once again. Or maybe try his kid, Kyle Wren, currently playing for the Brewers' org.

I'm not sure if serious, but that would never happen.

Early names I'm hearing are Dayton Moore (KC), Dan Jennings (Washington), Jason McLeod (Cubs), JJ Picollo (KC), and Kyle Stark (Pittsburgh). Hart was clear they aren't going to rush into anything and that it might be November before someone is hired. He will be the acting GM until then and he's comfortable handling anything that needs to be handled.

Harbaugh will go back to the 49ers before the Braves bring back Wren.
