2019, Week 3: Iowa (1-0) at Iowa State (0-1)
Iowa is favored but on the road. The teams are quite equal. An advantage could be
found in comparing the quarterback and running back situations. Iowa clearly has an
advantage here. However, the inexperienced Hawkeye receivers go up against a fast
and experienced secondary - some difficulty could be found passing the ball.
Safety Robert Gandy is expected to miss just one week after leaving last week's game
with a groin injury. He led the team in tackles last week, and he is much faster than
the backup, Earnest O'Neal. O'Neal must make the most of his strengths, which are
zone defense and his awareness, to fill in capably for Gandy.
Iowa State had a great week passing the ball against Akron, but still lost in embarr-
assing fashion. Will they be able to throw the pill around against the Hawkeyes?
Coach Clark better hope not. That could make a winnable game much closer than
it should be.Comment

2019, Week 3 Game Report
It looks like this will be my last post in awhile. Work is picking up and I'll be traveling to Seattle for Thanksgiving. As a self employed, vacations are few and far between, and highly stressful due to losing a week of pay in addition to the cost of the thing itself. With a ton of orders rolling in (perfect actually) I will be setting aside all time for fulfillment of work items and then probably busy after returning from the Thanksgiving break we've got scheduled. I wish all a Happy Thanksgiving and be safe.Last edited by Hellisan; 03-04-2018, 05:41 AM.Comment

Maybe that barn with a moat around it could also use a shrubbery. Or two, so you can get the two-level effect with a little path through it.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Have safe travels during the holidays bro.
On the game side of things, the first two have been a lot closer than I know you would have liked them to be. I see it as a positive though with the remaining schedule your team will be ready because of close games like this and who will know who is guys are that will step up when big plays are needed.Comment

Re: The Career of J.D. Clark (NCAA 14)
Oh goodness, I came back at the right time to see your report and several others around here back at it. I have quite a bit to catch up to. I'm anxious to see how the recent history has played out!
With that being said, that game against Iowa State looked it was stressful haha but those are the fun ones!My Newport Falcons Football Dynasty (Teambuilder) (CFB25)

Around the Week - 2019, Week 5 and Week 5 Preview
Iowa has a tuneup game following 2 bye weeks in three weeks, before beginning the
Big Ten slate against Minnesota at home in Week 6. Weeks 7 and 8 will include a trip
to #1 Ohio State and #2 Wisconsin traveling to Iowa City. It is imperative the squad
does not look ahead to the following weeks because there is not a huge talent gap
between Iowa and Kansas.
Quarterback Mike Barber has played poorly so far for Kansas. The Hawkeyes need to
make sure he does not use Week 5 to get well against them. Will the defense pick up
its first interception of the season? It certainly seems their best chance so far.
The offense including Eddie Allen and Nigel Atkinson need to get off to a fast start. If
the team struggles to manhandle Kansas, it does not portend good things for the
following weeks.Last edited by Hellisan; 12-10-2017, 03:01 PM.Comment

Re: Introduction and Table of Contents
Hopefully this is a true tune-up game where you roll early and get the backups some reps in the 2nd half...but not until Atkinson pads his Heisman standings!

2019, Week 5 Game Report
The team will play the remainder of the season without defensive tackle Clint Smith, who
was a brute at the end of last year and was just warming up in 2019, his final season in
Iowa City.
We put a few backups in very late, but it did turn out to be a blowout. Technically. Our defense played very well in this game, only giving up one touchdown. I was proud of the effort overall and it was a really fun, slightly stressful game to play. Thanks for checking in R1zzo.Last edited by Hellisan; 12-31-2017, 02:13 PM.Comment

Costly win, with the injury, but always good to get the dub. That picture of Nigel is one of the best pictures I've seen on these boards from the game.Comment

Thanks for the compliment on the pic, I put it in the photo thread in NCAA (it's cropped from an original that had the defender in there etc.). In case you want to see the original, which probably looks a little better.Comment

2019, Week 6 Preview: #21 Minnesota (2-2) at #10 Iowa (3-0) - The Floyd of Rosedale
Iowa battles one of its fiercest rivals in the Minnesota Golden Gophers. A team that
cemented a role for itself as a grind-you-down, defensive style of team. Last year the
Hawks lost a heartbreaker. Quarterback Masin Barnes took an ill-advised sack in
overtime that set up a long field goal for kicker Donovan Nugent. It missed, and all
the Golden Gophers needed to do was kick a field goal, but instead they scored from
10 yards out and made a break for the Floyd of Rosedale.
As a running team that focuses on playing good D, how does Minnesota stack up? Well,
the have a solid offensive line for starters. They are without starting QB Gary Summers
who has become one of the better players in the conference. The backup is more of a
running QB, and it will be interesting to see if they deploy him in that fashion. Last year
Summers ran it 9 times for 22 yards, although he is not as fast as Steven Singleton.
When Minnesota goes to the play action, they have weapons aplenty, with tons of speed.
If the Golden Gophers were more of a passing team, this could be a matchup nightmare.
If Minnesota decides to start throwing the ball around, it could become a problem.
The Gophers have average speed on the defensive line and have to start a DE at one of
the DT spots. They will have a significant strength disadvantage somewhere, and Iowa
wants to take advantage of that. Minnesota is solid but unspectacular - at least on paper
throughout most of its defense. They play good team defense, and their corners are good
in coverage.
The Hawkeyes may be relying upon #22 to shoulder the majority of the load once again.Comment

2019, Week 6 Game Report - The Floyd of Rosedale
My headline is meant to honor, and not steal from, the story posted by the real Gazette this year when Iowa beat the Gophers. It was simply too good not to use, and my hat goes off to whomever thought of it.
