Love the headline and the fact you were able to grab that picture. Sometimes it grab the right picture for a game review is the hardest part.

      2019, Week 7 Preview: #1 Ohio State (4-0) at #5 Iowa (4-0)

Typo alert: The story above notes Iowa is hosting OSU and in reality the team is traveling to Columbus for this game. We are too lazy to fix it. Our apologies!

My word! That OSU squad in unreal. One starter that isn't at least 80 overall and he's at 79. They're a buzzsaw. Hopefully you can carry some momentum from the big rivalry game into The Horseshoe. Best of luck!

Sheen, thanks for continuing to check in, I have been a horrible forum member while experiencing a crazy work environment and paying my way through my last 15 months of college (3 down, 12 to go). I need this in my life but I'm being selfish and not reading reports right now. I'm as surprised as anyone how this game went down, you're right, their roster is insane.

Yep... Somehow it worked out, we just seem to have OSU's number (between Idaho and Iowa). Thanks bigmike!

My man, no worries necessary! Life is more of a buzzsaw than OSU was for you haha. I can completely understand the grind. I've switched jobs twice since August and still have no idea what I want to do with my life.

Good luck with school. What I'd do to go back and do college over again (minus the loans ). I'd be a flat out liar to say I read every report on here. Free time is limited and you gotta do watcha gotta do! Just glad to see you back from time to time and that all is well!

Also good luck with the Badgers. They're also stout on paper despite having some weaknesses on their o-line. I think a win sounds good here.

What a win! Well done. If you can throttle OSU on the road, then the sky's the limit. Good luck against the Badgers and with that school grind!

Still surprised by that score, and still more surprised we beat them with Idaho. My record against the Top 25 overall is STILL pretty bad, something like 8-14, so it has not been an easy go overall. Ohio State is a team that I genuinely do not care for, and I can't say that about more than a couple of teams, I just find them unenjoyable overall, I guess it starts with the rampant cheating in the past, the home game percentage, a few different things about them. So I'm glad to be 2-0 against them.

And thanks for the moral support BigSheen.

Yeah we still have a lot of tough games coming up and may have to "prove it" against OSU if they run the division like I expect them to, and we get into the conference championship game which I'm not so sure about.

Given that I've kind of become a fan of Iowa (although I hate their unis at times) and as mentioned above dislike OSU, I enjoyed that one immensely. Both in real life and not real life. LOL

                            2019, Week 9 Preview

Iowa is favored but on the road things can always be more difficult. Northwestern has a
stout, capable defense and that is the #1 thing that gets the attention of Coach Clark
coming into this game. There is the possibility of a grind-it-out slugfest, and although
that is a style of pace he is comfortable with, it's one he worries will put his young QB in
a state of heightened stress, as he might try and do too much and turn the ball over.

The Wildcats have a pair of stout, capable senior defensive tackles on defense, and three
upper classmen on the interior of their offensive line. In both cases they are strong right
up the middle and will have to be reckoned with.

Northwestern often plays quite aggressive on defense, so Clark will likely pick and
choose spots to go after them with a long pass play, or try and get them to overpursue on
                            counter runs and screen passes.

                                Mid 2019 Recruiting Update

The big news out of Iowa recruiting is on the bad side. Brad Brewster, arguably the team's #1 target and a local boy, has signed with Wisconsin. The Hawkeyes will have to face the big, talented receiver multiple times in the near future.

Iowa has signed five players so far, two that are of significant note. Tim Broussard, a 4-star running back out of North Carolina, signed within the past week. None of his other top schools really came after him, but the Hawkeyes like Broussard. At 6'1" 215, with (85 SPD, 75 STR, 86 SFA, 86 JKM, 79 TRK/BTK) Broussard represents the power portion of a pair of running backs the team is likely to sign and has good moves and balance all around. The other is Maurice Brown, more of a speed back out of Pittsburg, Kansas. Brown is widely lauded for his return skills and (93 SPD, 86 ACC, 78 ELU) running ability.

On defense, the most notable signing so far is Brandon Butler, out of Terrytown, LA. It's strange that four of first five signings come from non pipeline states, as this was a class heavy on pipeline recruits, and one would think they would be the easiest to get to sign quickly. The impact guys were players who had Iowa #1 from the beginning (Broussard, Butler). Butler has functional speed and great strength with slightly above average skills (82 SPD, 83 STR, 74 TAK, 81 HPW, 78 PUR, 83 BSH). The ability to get off blocks with great strength is what the team is looking at with Butler. He is also within the happy medium area of speed, where he can cover sideline to sideline, but not overrun the ball carrier when stick-skillz challenged Helli is at the controls.

The team's top target now has to be talented ATH (CB, WR) D.J. Halloway out of Springfield, IL. He is a 5-star player who had Iowa #1 on his board (Only way we can add such a player to our board if not in state). He has a freaky blend of speed and skills and projects almost equally at either position to be a very good player. He is a very coverage oriented corner who struggles to get off blocks, but he can tackle just fine, and hit well for a corner (60 TAK, 70 HPW). As a wide receiver, he is a vertical threat that runs good routes but struggles to catch the ball over the middle unless he's wide open.

Cole Ross, Joe McDaniel, and Chris Wilson represent a lot of Coach Clark's efforts this year. Clark has spent time talking to each of them on the phone and lock picked his way back into their hearts after giving up a lot of ground early. Ross is a size/speed/strength freak who is a solid all-around player with no major weaknesses. He has already made his visit to Indiana, his #1 team, and Iowa is just behind them and gaining ground. Iowa has Ross slotted for Week 14 visit that will likely get him signed, if he doesn't decide to sign elsewhere by then. It's probably 50/50.

McDaniel is not fully scouted, but represents another starting quality player, most likely, at linebacker. He is scheduled to visit Week 13, after he visits Miss. State Week 12. It's probably a 40% shot the team signs him. If the team signs all three (including verbal commit Butler and Ross) they will be stacked at linebacker. The team is also favored (slightly) to sign 4-star OLB Reginald Clancy who is also considerating Iowa State. He would be a nice get for either team, but he really wants to go to Iowa at this point. Coach Clark is not inclined ot just let ISU have him, even though he and the team began scouting Clancy very late in the process. Clancy appears like he may turn out to be a diamond in the rough.

DT Chris Wilson is a 4-star player from out of state who had the Hawkeyes #1 at the start of the season, but Texas A&M quickly overtook and was running away with him early on. Coach Clark bided his time but then lock picked at just the right moment with an effective telephone call, talking about some of the great DT he has coached in the past and how they have dominated and gotten awards. Wilson is a light at 256 lbs., but with a redshirt year and some Iowa eats, he could become a very good player. With speed, strength, and great finesse moves for an inside player (68 SPD, 79 STR, 74 PMV, 87 FMV, 77 BSH) he holds a lot of promise.

Other notable players include Doug Durbin, a wide receiver from Wisconsin the team is battling (you guessed it) Wisconsin for. Guard Alonso Morris is a player the team absolutely has to have out of Texas. He visited Week 8 and had a good visit, but annoying Missouri is catching up and La Tech and Arky State of all teams just lock picked their way back into his heart.

The "sure thing" signings on this list include CB Lionel Robinson, a physical corner from Texas with adequate coverage skills; Khorey Younger, a 3-star T out of Virginia who appears solid but unspectacular; QB Nathan Malone a backup type at first glance with (88 THP, 72 ACC,. 72 SPD) who could develop into something with a good work ethic; K Steve Price JUCO; and the aforementioned Maurice Brown.
