Oh man, that's a tough pill to swallow at this stage of the season! That's going to add some extra motivation against them next season.

Time to get back on the the wagon, should still be a decent bowl hopefully!

Not going to say I saw this loss coming, but I guess blowing them out at home in the previous meeting must've left a bitter taste in Urban's mouth. I probably would've needed to purchase a new controller had the cpu got me for a 100-yard jet sweep TD.

If you would've gone undefeated through that entire hellacious schedule, though, you might as well have just retired. Not sure how you could top it.

I'd hate to be your bowl opponent...

Ouch man, that one stings. There's nothing more demoralizing than when an opponent runs all over you, especially when a third of their rushing yards were on one play. Interested to see the bowl matchup, but like WaitTilNextYear said, I wouldn't want to play the Hawkeyes right now..

Thanks man I appreciate that. Always loved reading the newspaper, I haven't had time for it anymore, but that is the reason I sort of copied the actual Des Moines Register newspaper style.

Well.... About that. Hey at least it's a decent GAME. We might have some kind of claim at a split national championship after all of this is over. Probably more solid than UCF's claim, if we're ranked #1 in either of the polls (if we win, not a given).

They're definitely a difficult team to beat twice, no matter how good your team is. We had a few breaks in that game to keep it to 24-17 as the final score. We had two legit fumbles that bounced right to a Hawkeye, even though the guy was the only one amid 3-5 players. Additionally, although their QB never once threw the ball to us or fumbled, my QB had at least 1, maybe 2, potential INT's dropped by OSU. So yeah, it could have been a lot worse.

It did suck seeing the guy go 100 yards, but I only had myself to blame, I knew better than to go for the safety. :-) What was cool is that it was a really good play call, not just some cheap nonsense.

Good point, yeah that was a huge play and even taking that play away we gave up twice as many rushing yards as normal. I was somewhat happy to see that because they're a very powerful offense, and our defense is not nearly as talented on paper.

I hope we can put together the kind of effort befitting our anger after the story above.

                Re: Update: Iowa Snubbed

What an absolute brutal way to end the year. So much hope and it all goes down the drain at the finish line by 7 measly points.

You just cannot make mistakes against a team like Ohio St., and it looks like your inability to generate turnovers was key, in addition to letting their running game go buck-wild on you (no pun intended).

It sucks about being snubbed out of the title game as well, but I imagine an Iowa-Ohio St. rematch for the title game would be a tough sell to the networks.

Three Big 10 teams in the top 4, unheard of.

Oh well; it's moments like these that keep us wanting to continue. Looking forward to the bowl, even if it wasn't what you had in mind.

Great presentation as always. You've always been the one of the top innovators in the game, and this newspaper thing you have going on is slick; it really brings me back to my youth, back when newspaper-reading was a thing.

Well, effin' A man. Michigan against Ohio State in the BCS title game? Both of which you beat...On the other hand, it's not really surprising to me that the B1G rules the rankings given that your entire season schedule seemed to start off highly ranked.

At least Texas seems like a good opponent to draw if you can overlook the actual bowl itself. In a sort of masochistic way, this result probably will make the next season even higher stakes--a "redeem team" type of thing.

Insightful commentary that made me take a second look, as always. You're definitely right about Ohio State, beating them once was a great accomplishment for this team, if we had beaten them again we darn well better have won the BCS but that's for another year.

The point about an OSU/Iowa rematch being a tough sell is absolutely right on, and pales in comparison to the idea of Michigan / Ohio State... At least for now. I was stuck on the idea of playing three times. I really thought it was going to happen and I couldn't find another example of it in the history of NCAA football. It made sense that we would remain in the Top 2 to me, but due to the various points and a VERY healthy recency bias... Nope.

It's weird because LAST SEASON I thought the Big Ten had a great year, with teams like Minnesota and Illinois finishing in the Top 25, and I think we had 6-7 total teams there. But with two teams playing for the National Championship, it just doesn't get better than that. And a third one that should have replaced Michigan LOL

Thanks Geezy, for me reading the newspaper will be a thing until the day they stop printing them.. Been too busy lately, but particularly during baseball season I love a good box score. :-) My roto baseball team is always called the Box Score Bullies.

We get to face Heisman Trophy winner Jonathan Brooks, not to be confused with the multiple award winning Jonathan Brooks. Which running back will come out on top? High stakes drama in the Capital One Bowl! (which I spelled Capitol twice and had to redo). I know better than that.

Next season will be interesting. Eddie Allen will be the key cog on offense and his up and down nature may make it hard. I might not give the ball to a tired running back all season, bright green stamina only! That might be a good thing, moving three (minimum) running backs around and not having to worry about resting Atkinson enough.

The newspaper stuff is sick. Idk how you manage to throw something like that together and still play the game. I'm finding it difficult to balance playing the games and organizing my updates, cuz the updates take as long as the game sometimes.

Thank you bro! TBH, writing a report has always taken me about an hour or even more, regardless of how it looks it is essentially the same process. So yeah, probably as long as playing it. During the game I dictate details about each game on OneNote on my phone. A lot of the story comes from there so I don't have to type it all. Which is why there's usually a linear blow-by-blow in the report at some point. However, unless I'm very focused and/or driven, if I sit down to do it from start to finish it takes like double the time. So, I rarely do that. I usually take 10 minutes to select/edit pics and then put it down, then later come back and take 10 minutes to do the box score and maybe 10 minutes to format the photoshop for that story. Then later I take 25 or so minutes to write the story and a few more minutes to plug in the photos and other nonsense. It's definitely a labor of love and for some may not be worth it. I just feel more involved with the dynasty if I'm doing some sort of reporting with it, and I find that the more I cover my league (and the NCAA) as a whole, the more into it I am. I have specific players I like to check up on because they're just super freaks or whatever around the nation. I get into it quite a bit.

Where i really get a lot of time sucked away is thinking up various formatting or adding new things just on a whim that I may or may not need. That sucks away a lot of time. I wanted like 5 different report formats for the newspaper style presentation, but each of those took a long time to come up with. Now that I have those set, the goal is to change very little.

Nice win to salvage the end of the year, even if the team's heads weren't completely there. Hopefully next year ends a little more happily, and I think you guys could/should be right back in BCS contention next year. Looking forward to seeing what you do replacing Atkinson - you've got a very unenviable task in doing so. Wonder if someone like Kenard Goodman can have another good offseason to get into the race or something.

Absolutely LOVE the AWS ad in the POTG screen. Definitely gives the game more of a broadcast feel, as that sort of stuff would get sponsored all the time. I've got a neutral site game coming up this year and was thinking of incorporating similar advertisements into the game logo and such.
