LSU gave us quite the scare last season, and they are so due. Hopefully we can get out to a fast start. If their running game gets going and that DT Rodney Justice dominates us the way he did last season (3 sacks), we could be in some trouble.

I hate to admit it, but I feel way more nervous about this one than I normally am for the Tigers.

Baton Rouge, LA -- Tulane head coach D. Geezy admitted this week that his team's long winning streak over its in-state rival LSU would one day end, a sentiment somewhat illustrated by last year's close 33-30 Green Wave victory over the Tigers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Fortunately for him, despite last year's omen, that end will have to wait at least another year, as his 6th ranked Wave outscored the Tigers 43-38 in a roller-coaster ride victory Saturday afternoon at Death Valley. In a game that featured 64 combined first half points between the teams, Tulane's suddenly unstoppable offense was able to outpace their counterparts and got big plays in all three phases as the Wave won its whopping 10th straight game over the Tigers, by far its longest streak in a rivalry matchup that dates all the way back to 1893.

LSU RB Jamie Stover carved up the Green Wave defense early and finished the contest with 124 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 carries.

Early on, both teams started the game with back-to-back touchdown drives that lasted just three plays, setting the tone for the scoreboard-burning first half. LSU RB Jamie Stover and Tulane RB Anthony Brown each had two scores in the first quarter alone, and Green Wave sophomore return man Grant Brady also contributed with an early 99-yard kickoff return touchdown, his fourth career kick return score. A missed PAT by Wave freshman PK Blake Dunn, his first miss of any kind this season, contributed to what was a 20-14 Tulane advantage at the end of the first.

The scoring birage would not end there.

A 20-yard touchdown completion from LSU QB Rob Mason to WR Chris Kelly gave the Tigers a 21-20 lead early in the second quarter. Then, following a fumble by Brady on the ensuing kickoff, the Tigers found themselves back in business once again. This time, the Louisiana native that goes by the nickname "White Mike" found WR Russell Stephens for a 15-yard score that increased the Tigers' advantage to 28-20.

"You could really feel the momentum completely shifted in their favor at that moment," said Geezy. "We knew it was going to be very important that we respond, or things would get ugly."

And respond they did, with a huge assist from their defense.

On their ensuing drive following Stephens score, QB Jimmy McBride's 21-yard touchdown strike to WR Adam Lawson despite tight coverage concluded a 10-play drive and cut the Wave's deficit to 28-27. Then, a few possessions later, the road team would re-claim the lead when sophomore MLB Rasheed Ward tackled Stover in the end zone for a safety, making the score 29-28 with 1:14 to go in the first half.

Following a great punt by freshman P Lawrence McLaughlin, Green Wave sophomore MLB Rasheed Ward burst through the Tigers' offensive line and into the backfield to bring down Stover in the end zone for a game-changing safety that gave the Wave a 29-28 second quarter lead.

Finally, following the free kick after the safety, McBride would lead a methodical drive all the way deep into LSU territory. The 8-play 60-yard march would culminate when the junior signal-caller found RB Michael Brown Jr. out of the backfield for a 1-yard touchdown completion that made the score 36-28 going into half. Brown Jr. finished with a team-high 5 receptions, which went for 44 yards, and the third down backfield specialist leads all Green Wave pass catchers with 17 receptions this season.

The Tigers received the ball first to start the second half down by only 8, however disaster quickly struck. Mason's interception thrown to SS Jo Jo Price on the first play from scrimmage of the third quarter was his third interception thrown in the game, and set the Wave up in prime field position. A quick, 2-play, 17-yard drive would result in McBride and Lawson hooking up for a pair of completions, with the second resulting in a touchdown that gave Tulane a commanding 43-28 lead. Lawson finished the afternoon with 4 receptions for 61 yards and 2 touchdowns, while McBride finished 15 of 24 for 176 yards to go along with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, his fourth straight game without throwing a pick.

"I could not be more proud of the way Jimmy is playing right now," said Geezy of McBride, who became just the third quarterback under Geezy's regime not to throw an interception in four straight games, joining former Wave passers Curtis Byrd (2012) and Preston Fields (2019); no quarterback under Geezy has gone five straight contests without throwing a pick.

"We haven't seen this type of week to week efficiency and playmaking ability at the QB position since (former Tulane QB) Jamie Manning. Getting better at not turning the ball over was a key goal coming into this season, and right now, his 11 to none TD to INT ratio has eclipsed our expectations in that department."

LSU (2-1) would not go away that easy though. Stover's third touchdown of the day, this one from 15 yards away, decreased his team's deficit to 43-35 midway through the third quarter, making it a one possession game. Stover ended the day with 122 rushing yards and 3 scores.

The two teams would play to a stalemate for most of the remainder of the game, though that kept the Tigers within striking distance. A fourth down stop in the backfield by Ward near midfield, once again head-up versus Stover, turned the ball over on downs with 5:04 to go in the game. However LSU would force and punt to regain possession and got a field goal by senior PK Jeremy Dawson, making the score 43-38 with 2:09 remaining.

Tulane RB Anthony Brown finished the game with 15 carries for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns, and also helped his team clinch the win with a late first down run.

Curiously, the Tigers would elect to kick off rather than go for the onside kick, and they would pay dearly.

Back-to-back runs by A. Brown would result in a gains of 9 yards and then no yards, setting up a 3rd and 1 with 1:42 to go and LSU down to its final timeout. Geezy would go back to his closer one more time, and Brown came through with a game-sealing 11-yard gain, forcing the Tigers to exhaust their final timeout and putting the Wave in position to go into victory formation.

"Anthony is emerging as one of the premiere backs in college football before our very eyes, and I had no hesitations about giving him the ball in that critical moment," Geezy said of Brown, who finished with 151 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, giving him exactly 500 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns on the year, while also earning him player of the game honors.

"Coming into today, honestly the thought of this possibly turning into a shootout had never crossed my mind. But we matched them score for score when we needed to, we made plays on defense and special teams when we needed to, and we grinded it out on the ground when we needed to at the end. This was a hard fought win against a very good opponent that's given us some trouble here as of late."

Tulane (4-0) will travel to Athens next week to face Georgia (3-1). The Green Wave defeated the Bulldogs 42-14 last season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, giving Geezy a perfect 5-0 record against the SEC East foe.

Nicknamed "Death Valley," Tiger Stadium was packed to the brim with over 100,000 fans ready to watch Louisiana's top two college football programs get it on.




As is customary, Tigers players "tapped the sign" as they entered the playing field on a sunny Saturday afternoon, hoping to put an end to Tulane's 9-game winning streak versus LSU.




LSU junior RB Jamie Stover gave the Green Wave problems all afternoon, and this early 37-yard touchdown concluded a 3-play opening drive which gave the Tigers a lightning-quick 7-0 lead.




After yet another touchdown by Stover put Tulane down 14-7, WR Grant Brady's 99-yard kickoff return touchdown tied the game up at 14-14 in the first quarter.




Sophomore QB Rob Mason, a Louisiana native that was nearly a member of the Green Wave, finished the contest with 273 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, however he also threw 3 costly interceptions.




LSU's student section was rowdy after their team scored back-to-back touchdowns early in second quarter to take a 28-20 lead.




Tulane QB Jimmy McBride, who has yet to throw an interception this season, somehow fit this pass into a very tight window and WR Adam Lawson was able to corral it for a 21-yard score that cut the Wave's deficit to 28-27 in the second quarter.




Tulane pass-catching RB Michael Brown Jr. once again led all Wave players in receptions, as he hauled in 5 catches on the day for 44 yards. Here, he celebrates with Lawson and LT Kyle Gray following a 1-yard touchdown reception that increased Tulane's lead to 36-28 just before halftime.




McBride threw for only 176 yards versus the Tigers' vaunted defense, however he finished with 3 touchdown passes and became just the third quarterback under head coach D. Geezy to go four straight games without throwing an interception.

After Tulane forced an early second half turnover, Lawson's one-handed 11-yard grab put the Wave in scoring position. One play later, Lawson hauled in a 6-yard touchdown reception that increased his team's lead to 43-28.




After sacking McBride three times in last year's contest, Tigers senior DT Rodney Justice was held in check for the most part on Saturday, though he did come away with this second half sack.




Senior DE T.J. Pearson brought down Mason in the third quarter for his second sack of the season.




Following RB Anthony Brown's game-clinching first down carry with under two minutes to go, McBride and company began their celebration.




A player that Tulane once recruited, LSU senior CB Billy Powers was one of the last players to walk off the field and is yet another member of the Tigers that will graduate having never defeated the Green Wave.

For the first time since beginning this Part II project, and for the first time since the Jamie Manning-era, I feel like I have a true star at QB. Things started off very rocky with McBride, but he has really developed and seems to be hitting his stride. And I can honestly say that it isn't just the user getting better - he does things that I haven't been able to do with other QBs. His overall mobility, ability to evade pressure, and ability to throw on the run have been a tremendous asset.

Would you believe it if I told you that I acquired this guy virtually two years ago in real time?! That was so long ago that it was back when I actually had a thing for Britt McHenry (the "source" of the commitment article), before she got let go from ESPN and turned all bat-sh!t crazy in real life. It's unbelievable how time flies!

Still a long way to go, but I feel this team is starting to get a bit of a swagger and Jimmy is one of the main reasons why!

A close win, but I'll take it! Way to take a victory on the road, keep building momentum.

Appreciate it man....the close wins are the ones we play for. I am very happy that LSU is putting up legit fights as of late. We really had to earn that victory. I literally got out of my chair after that game-clinching first down to pump my first and then put my hands on my knees to breathe a sigh of relief at the end. Its been three real-time years now since I've revived this project, and I am so hungry for a national title; we can't have any slip-ups.

That said, we have some tougher opponents coming up very soon, so we'll have to figure out how to play better than we did against the Tigers or else things could turn sour quickly!

Eve Jewell of ESPNU - New Orleans reports that Tulane has landed yet another blue chip 5-star player, getting a committment from Texas TE De'Anthony Robinson (6-0, 247, 4.60 40-time, #2 rated TE). Robinson, who plays a FB/TE hybrid position at Stephenville High School, is the Green Wave's third 5-star acquisition of the year, and after last week's commitments from FS Jeremy Reid and SS Damon Hayes, marks the first time since 2021 that the team was able to get three commitments from blue chip prospects in one year (also happened two other times - 2016 and 2019).

Taylor Bisciotti of the SEC Network reports that, per his weekly media phone conference, Tulane head coach D. Geezy would like to give sophomore WR Grant Brady (83 ovr, 92 spd) more touches on offense. Perhaps overshadowed by 6-6 phenom junior WR Adam Lawson (88 ovr, 97 spd), the former top receiver recruit in the nation has only 2 receptions for 21 yards and no touchdowns on offense this season, though he has contributed 1 kick return touchdown and 1 punt return touchdown so far this fall.

"Grant and I talked, and I think we both understand that a lot of it has been game-flow. We've had two games already where our starters more or less only played one full half and two other games against very good defenses," said Geezy regarding the 6-0 172 pound receiver, who had 528 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns last season as a true freshman.

"Grant is a consummate professional , but he's also a competitor and wants the ball, and it is my job to get the ball in each of our best playmakers' hands, whether it's as a downfield threat or in the short passing game or on jet sweeps and such. Yes what we've been doing has worked and we're 4-0, but that doesn't mean we can't get better and I believe Grant can do that for us."

2025: Then-redshirt sophomore QB Jimmy McBride celebrated his 14-yard third quarter touchdown run with former Wave TE Ronnie Parsons.

Last Meeting: Last season, then-#7 ranked Tulane scored early and often, easily disposing of unranked Georgia 42-14 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Then-sophomore QB Jimmy McBride accounted for 4 touchdowns (3 passing, 1 rushing) while then-sophomore WR Adam Lawson caught 5 receptions for 164 yards and a score. The win for the Green Wave pushed 17th year head coach D. Geezy's career record versus the Bulldogs to 5-0.

2021: Former Tulane superstar CB Nate Hall's 10-yard interception return for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter made the score 23-3 and essentially put the game out of reach. The pick, which was Hall's second of the game, also gave him an NCAA record 29 on his career, and his eventual 31 career interceptions is a record that still stands today.

Last Meeting at Venue: Five years ago, Tulane only scored one offensive touchdown against the pesky Georgia 3-4 defense, and that came following a fumble recovery at the Bulldogs 1-yard line. However, despite the paltry offensive performance, the #6 ranked Green Wave was still able to cruise past unranked Georgia 26-3 in 2021 at Athens. Former Green Wave and current Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl CB Nate Hall had two interceptions during the contest, including one returned for a game-clinching touchdown, as the defense led the charge for the Wave.

Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Tulane's 2016 BCS National Title

2016: On the game's very first play from scrimmage, Tulane star RB Brett Curtis followed his blockers and raced 92 yards for a career-long touchdown run that gave the Green Wave an early 7-0 lead.

Last Meeting (Legacy Classic): One full decade ago, head coach D. Geezy's then-12th ranked Green Wave recorded the first and of only two shutouts in his career in New Orleans to-date, ousting then-18th ranked Georgia 40-0 in rain-soaked Athens during the 2016 season. The star for Tulane that day was RB Brett Curtis, who ended the game with 136 rushing yards on just 10 carries, including a 92-yard touchdown run on the game's very first offensive play. Curtis' legs were needed that day, as former Wave star QB Jamie Manning struggled versus the Bulldogs' 3-4 defense, throwing for just 183 yards and tossing 4 interceptions on the night, while former star RB Reggie Moore was held to just 45 scrimmage yards and no touchdowns. The win improved Tulane's record to 5-1 on their march to the school's first ever BCS National Championship that season.

Athens, GA -- A decade ago, Tulane turned the ball over four times in a dominant but sloppy 40-0 victory in Athens on their way to winning the school's first ever national title that season. 10 years later, the Green Wave hopes Saturday night was an omen and that history repeats itself, as they won in similar fashion 38-20 over the Bulldogs on the road. The Green Wave gave the ball away a season-high 4 times and gave up a season-high 3 sacks Saturday evening, however got 4 forced turnovers of their own, including 3 by junior SS Jo Jo Price, allowing them to pull away early and win their sixth straight over the Bulldogs dating back to 2015.

Junior FS Jo Jo Price accounted for 3 turnovers Saturday night, snagging two interceptions along with a fumble recovery. Price's career-high 5 interceptions this season leads all Green Wave defenders.

Freshman RB Teddy Jenkins, playing in the place of RB Anthony Brown in the first quarter following the starter's reported suspension, got the party started early for the Wave. The speedy Marietta, Georgia native's 21-yard touchdown run made the score 7-0 and the Green Wave never looked back. Jenkins finished the night with 48 yards on 9 carries while Brown, who entered the game in the second quarter, finished with 8 carries for 40 yards.

Later in the second half, Tulane QB Jimmy McBride would hookup with WR Adam Lawson for a 19-yard touchdown that concluded a 12-play 84-yard drive and increased the Wave's lead to 14-0. Then, the game would get blown open following a turnover committed by the Bulldogs.

On Georgia's ensuing drive following Lawson's score, Tulane junior CB J.T. Hills' stripped WR Nick Stewart of the football and it was recovered by OLB Sean Williamson, setting the Wave up with possession in Bulldogs territory. Two plays later, McBride's 40-yard connection with WR Grant Brady on a deep pass gave the Wave a commanding 21-0 lead. And the road team wasn't done just yet.

After the two teams traded turnovers - a fumble by Georgia RB Junior O'Neal that was recovered by Price and an interception by Bulldogs CB Kenny Brown in the red zone, McBride's first interception of the season - Tulane went for the kill.

Already up 21-0, the Green Wave would go on a 8-play drive to close out the second quarter, and Lawson's spectacular one-handed grab for a 12-yard touchdown made the score 28-0 with just :09 to go until halftime. Lawson finished the night with 6 receptions for 95 yards and 2 scores.

Things would get a bit whacky in the second half though, much to head coach D. Geezy's chagrin.

Having thrown 15 touchdown passes compared to just 1 interception to start the season, QB Jimmy McBride's name has now entered the Heisman conversation.

A muffed punt by Brady would allow Georgia to have possession deep in Wave territory and resulted in a 12-yard touchdown run by RB Eric Cowan that made the score 31-7. Then, McBride would fumble on his team's next possession, setting the Bulldogs up with possession near midfield with a chance to get back into the game.

Fortunately for the Green Wave, Price's second interception of the game would thrwart that attempt. And four plays later, McBride's 6-yard touchdown pass to RB Michael Brown Jr. made the score 38-7 early in the fourth quarter. McBride finished the night 18 of 25 for 309 yards and 4 touchdowns, and his final touchdown pass ended the night for he and the rest of the Green Wave offensive starters. But Georgia (3-2) would not quit playing.

A 10-yard touchdown pass by QB Matt Ryan to Cowan made the score 38-14. Then, following a fumble by Wave reserve RB Brian Anthony as his team attempted to run out the clock, O'Neal's touchdown run on the final play of the game made the score 38-20. The late scores given up along with his team's turnovers had Geezy fuming in his postgame presser.

"I am happy with the win, but I was overall disappointed with how we finished," said the 17th year head coach.

"We were extremely sloppy and completely lacked any semblance of a killer instinct. We put the ball on the ground far too many times and we gave up three sacks; both are well below the standard I think we have set thus far this season. If we come out like this next week, we're going to get rolled on."

The Green Wave (5-0) will host #2 Notre Dame (6-0) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in a game that will have gigantic BCS ramifications. Last season, then-#3 ranked Tulane defeated the then-3rd ranked Fighting Irish 31-13 last season at South Bend, and next week's contest will mark the fourth and final contest of a four-game contract the two schools agreed to in 2022.

"This is where the fun begins," said Geezy. "We want to get to the next level as a program, and it goes without saying that this next one is a huge step in that endeavor."

Redshirt junior QB Jimmy McBride had some fun with the cameraman following his 6-yard touchown pass to RB Michael Brown Jr. McBride's 15th touchdown pass of the year made the score 38-7 early in the fourth quarter and would also signal the end to his night.

Decked out in their new all-black home uniforms, Georgia took the field hoping to break its 5-game losing streak to the Green Wave.




QB Jimmy McBride has made a living this season with his off-balance throwing ability and here found WR Adam Lawson for a 19-yard touchdown completion that made the score 14-0 early in the second quarter.




Tulane sophomore TE Drew Robinson, a Louisiana native and first year starter, had the best game of his young career, hauling in 5 receptions for 86 yards on the night.




Starting sophomore DE Ricky Evans brought down QB Matt Ryan for a first half sack, his 2nd sack of the season.




Imposing 6-7 SS Jo Jo Price towered over 5-9 RB Eric Cowan for a first half interception. Price finished the game with 5 tackles to go along with 2 interceptions and a fumble recovery.




Green Wave head coach D. Geezy said this week that he wanted to get WR Grant Brady more involved in the offense, and the sophomore California native came through with this 40-yard touchdown reception that made the score 21-0 in the second quarter.




McBride went without throwing an interception for four straight games, however that streak would come to an end when CB Kenny Brown jumed in front of FB J.J. Williams for this second quarter interception in the red zone.




Star WR Adam Lawson caught 6 receptions for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns, including this sensational 12-yard one-handed grab in the end zone that gave the Green Wave a 28-0 lead just before halftime.




Bulldogs DE Terrence Bell was a menace all night long and celebrated following this third quarter sack.




True freshman FS Donnie Sparks was excited following this second quarter pass breakup, however Georgia senior WR Chad Broussard thought there was illegal contact while the ball was in the air.




Bell chased down McBride in the second half and forced a fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs. The rare bad play by McBride was one of four turnovers the night for the Green Wave and had head coach D. Geezy upset in his postgame press conference.




With the game out of hand, Georgia fans started hitting the exits very early in the fourth quarter.




Just like last year, Georgia backup RB Eric Cowan got behind FS Terrell Faulk for a late score, but it was too little too late for the Bulldogs.




After throwing for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns, McBride won Player of the Game honors and is now starting to get some national recognition.
