Yes Caldwell was absolutely incredible. He literally put his team on his back and carried them. It was an amazing performance by this virtual player, and we got caught sleeping at the wheel.

No, I did not create him. I have never delved into the create-a-player feature. I considered making a few extra kickers at one point since there's far too many guys with subpar KPW, but just never got around to it.

    Thanks for checking in brother!

Thanks, nofx. I think we still have a good shot here. We have Kentucky next, and hopefully that one goes the way we expect it to. I actually just noticed while preparing the preview that the year when won our first ever national title (2016), we were #13 going into a game 7 contest versus Kentucky, so we're in an even better position than we were back then and still have a great shot.

The following game after this one is the big one though - at two-time defending national champion Alabama. If we win that one, we are right back in the thick of things while also putting us in prime position to win our first SEC title in 5 years.

Funny you mention the Vegas Knights, as my wife and I will be traveling to Vegas in a couple of weeks. They had an amazing run, but yeah, hopefully the league has learned not to give so many expansion perks the next time around!

Sorry for the brief delay in the action. My family and I just got back from a brief beach vacation, but things are about to get cranking here once again!

Game 7, Year 17 Preview (2026 season): Kentucky Wildcats at #9 Tulane Green Wave

      GAME 7 PREVIEW

      Courtesy

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

      ....................30 1/2....................

2025: MLB Joey Rodgers (LEFT) and CB Tyler Harrison (RIGHT) each returned interceptions for touchdowns in a game-time span of less than a minute during the third quarter.

Last Meeting: In a game that resulted in the most points ever scored by a Green Wave team under head coach D. Geezy and the most ever combined points in a game during the veteran head coach's now 17-year tenure, Tulane scored a whopping 35 points en route to a roller-coaster ride 66-34 victory over Kentucky at chilly Kroger Field. Former Wave cornerbacks Jamaal Green and Tyler Harrison each scored defensive touchdowns as did current junior CB Benny Smith and current senior MLB Joey Rodgers, allowing the Wave to overcome a 10-0 first quarter deficit on the way to their 12th straight win over the Wildcats.

2024: WR Brandon McIntyre's 62-yard third quarter touchdown helped Tulane open up a 24-7 third quarter lead as the senior finished with 5 receptions for 118 yards.

Last Meeting at Venue: Two seasons ago, a banged up #12 ranked Tulane squad turned a somewhat close 17-7 halftime lead into an eventual 34-15 win over visiting Kentucky, improving their record to 7-1 on the season. Former Green Wave LB Chuckie Coley's 30-yard interception return in the second quarter gave the Wave its first lead of the game, and they never looked back. Despite the struggles of QB Obi Clemons, playing in place of injured starter Bryce Allen, the Wave were able to overcome an early injury to RB Tony Tompkins and eventually pull away from what was a pesky Wildcats squad.

      Trip Down Memory Lane
Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Tulane's 2016 BCS National Title

2016: QB Jamie Manning connected with RB Reggie Moore on a "swing screen pass" and the junior all-purpose phenom did an electrifying spin move to get past a linebacker in one on one coverage before diving into the end zone to give his team an early 7-0 lead. Moore finished with a team-high 8 receptions for 51 yards and two receiving touchdowns on the day.

Last Meeting (Legacy Classic): Tulane then-true freshman QB Jamie Manning went 24 of 31 for 352 yards and four touchdowns, shredding through Kentucky's overwhelmed defense and leading the 13th ranked Green Wave to a 37-14 victory over the Wildcats a decade ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Former Green Wave star WR Brandon McNeil caught 5 receptions for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns while legendary RB Reggie Moore caught 8 receptions for 51 yards and 2 scores, helping the Wave improve its record to 6-1 on the year on their way to winning their first ever national title.

Ironically Kentucky has become a powerhouse in my dynasty, top 25 the last few years.

This is a good game to get the mojo back. I expect a slow start but work out the kinks and bounce back strong. Go Wave!

^p cool. I've never seen Kentucky turn into a powerhouse.

I expect you to prepare for Kentucky like they're somebody. That way they'll end up looking like nobody. Rest starters in the second half type game. Maybe. Should be.

Also, took a slightly closer look at your depth chart and realized you're going to be returning all but three starters between offense and defense next year. That's insane.

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul

My last post was prior to the Alabama game where Deuce Monroe got you guys one last time. Here are my thoughts:
            - The follow-up game against Southern Miss was a tough one and clearly a huge letdown considering the season you were having just two weeks prior.
            - The win against Arkansas righted the ship with McBride pounding in 5 TDs. The Razorbacks are so up-and-down in this dynasty that I never know what to expect when you take the field against them.
            - Then McBride follows that up with 418 yards and 5 more TDs against Ole Miss?!? This is the QB play Tulane has been waiting for!
            - That loss to TCU just proves that kickers aren't football players haha.
            - Great to end the season with a bowl win over Penn State. Hopefully that gives this program some momentum going forward.
            - I hate Alabama and what I wouldn't have given to see GTech beat them!
            - Deuce Monroe returning for his senior season? Oh boy!
            - Landing the #2 WR in Steve Mosley should hopefully keep this offense clicking. Eventually he and QB Ryan Tyler should be a dynamic duo.
            - Huge season-opening win over Ohio State!
            - A blowout against Auburn allows a lot of the younger kids to play. Got to love those games.
            - Wow, an even bigger blowout over South Carolina! Quite an impressive 3-0 start to the season.
            - Hot damn! Landing two elite safety prospects is a huge start to the recruiting season for Tulane! Hopefully that breaks the curse of elite secondary prospects spurning the Green Wave.
            - The LSU game was a lot closer than I expected but winning in the Bayou is never an easy task!
            - Adding another stud to that offense, this time 5* TE De'Anthony Robinson, is going to be exciting! I love the TE position and am also a huge Texas football fan so I'll definitely have my eyes on this kid throughout the dynasty!
            - No Brown (for the 1st quarter), no problem against Georgia!
            - Biggest game of the season against ND and the turnover bug bit you guys hard. Luckily they aren't an SEC foe so it doesn't hurt your conference standings as much.

Very interesting about Kentucky turning into a powerhouse in your dynasty. Like nofx94, I don't know if I have ever seen that before. They've been straight up trash against us throughout the entire history of this dynasty, outside of a 41-7 opening day thrashing they laid on us in our 2013 home opener back in our Conference USA days (and just to give you an idea of how long ago that was, we promptly followed it up with a loss to SMU the following week!!!).

I really hope you're wrong about a slow start. I want to pound on these guys early and hopefully get my young guys some playing time in the second half while more importantly, letting my starters rest up for Bama.

Yeah man, we are really primed for a nice run here this year and next, especially if both QB Jimmy McBride and WR Adam Lawson stick around for their senior seasons. Between the guys coming back and the big time recruits we've signed in the secondary, we could be in a position to dominate in 2027.

As I was telling SilverBullet, I too hope this one is over early. Kentucky has hung around with us a time or two over the years, but I truly expect us to dominate this one, especially with it being at home and coming off the heartbreaking loss.

R1zzo...once again, welcome back and I just want to say I really appreciate the great feedback here. These are my favorite posts to read through, because it kind of serves as a quick trip down recent-memory lane. It's fun reading people's thoughts in real-time as they unfold.

I felt like our team was built to win it all this year. We still have a great chance to get it done; but we're in a position now where we don't control our own destiny. We'll just have to take it one week at a time, handle our own business, and let the chips fall where they may.

Aside for the great "previously on Coach Geezy in the Big Easy" TV-style episode teaser you've provided here, your post serves as a nice foreshadow for what's right around the corner - the final chapter of the Deuce Monroe vs. Tulane saga. That game will be intense on multiple levels, and I cannot wait to play it!

Thanks fellas...time to get it on with Kentucky. Hopefully we can put this one to bed early and start making preparations for Bama by halftime.

Game 7, Year 17 (2026 season): Kentucky Wildcats at #9 Tulane Green Wave

                #9 55 -- 6-1 (5-0) F/2OT

Tulane QB Jimmy McBride was sacked four times during Saturday's sloppy win, including three times by Wildcats MLB Allen Shaw.

#9 Tulane gets caught catnapping, needs late heroics to come away with a razor-thin 55-52 double-overtime victory versus lowly Kentucky | After leading rally to tie the game at the end of regulation, McBride's walk-off touchdown seals a stunningly close win | Geezy: Green Wave performance was 'dispicable,' full team re-evaluation on the way during bye week | Heading into their week off, it's gut-check time for the Wave as Halloween Night date with two-time defending national champion Alabama draws near

New Orleans, LA -- With #9 Tulane coming off a heartbreaking 39-35 defeat last week at the hands of current-#1 Notre Dame and with a date versus arch rival and current-#2 Alabama right around the corner, most observers figured the Green Wave would have no problems disposing of the over-matched Kentucky squad sandwiched in between those two monster matchups; besides, the team has had no issues defeating them each of the last 12 times. Unfortunately for head coach D. Geezy's crew, the Wildcats had other plans and gave his squad all it could handle and more, as the Wave barely escaped with a 55-52 double-overtime win Saturday afternoon at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The combination of Kentucky running backs Joel Baker (#5) and Alex Boone (#28) gave Tulane fits all game long as the duo finished with 351 rushing yards and 4 total touchdowns.

Kentucky, who lead most of the game, gave Tulane fits all day long with a monster offensive performance, putting up 625 offensive yards, including 385 yards on the ground. Wildcats RB Joel Baker finished with 202 yards and a touchdown while his backup, RB Alex Boone, finished with 149 yards and 3 scores, as they surprisingly had no issues navigating their way through the suddenly-porous Wave defense, keeping their team ahead for most of the game until a late rally saved the day for Tulane.

The odd afternoon for the Green Wave got off to a rough start right off the bat, as they surrendered a 9-play 78-yard opening march by Kentucky, a drive aided by a long 52-yard third down completion to WR Chris Wade early in the possession. Boone's 4-yard touchdown run on 4th and 2 capped off the drive, giving the Wildcats an early 7-0 advantage and setting the tone that they were not there to lay down.

The two teams would go back and forth for the entire first two quarters of action. Tulane redshirt junior QB Jimmy McBride threw three touchdown passes in the first half - One to freshman WR Steve Mosley and a pair to senior #4 WR Kenny Bell - while Kentucky got a 67-yard touchdown run by Baker and a 54-yard touchdown by Boone, helping the 30 1/2 point underdogs take a 28-21 lead into the halftime locker room.

"Hats off to Kentucky, they brought their 'A' game today," said Geezy, who was seen visibly upset on the sidelines throughout the contest. "They're a team we play every year and historically they've given us problems maybe a couple of times, but not like this."

The Green Wave would finally capture its first lead of the game when RB Anthony Brown dashed through the Wildcats defense for a 43-yard third quarter touchdown, giving the Wave a 31-28 lead and putting them in position to begin to take over...or so they thought.

Early in the fourth quarter, with the Wave deep in Wildcats territory up 31-28 and looking to go up by 10 to perhaps start pulling away, McBride was hit as he threw and his pass attempt to WR Grant Brady in the end zone was picked off by Kentucky FS Sam Hobbs, thwarting the Wave's opportunity to build on their lead.

WR/PR Grant Brady's fumble on a punt return midway through the fourth quarter put the Wildcats in position to re-take the lead late in regulation.
"That was a significant error that when we go back and watch the tape, we'll realize that if we don't make that mistake, the entire tide of the game is different. We were rolling at that point," said offensive coordinator Joe Roberts.

Later in the final period, with the Wave up 34-28 and set to receive the ball on a punt, that's when the wheels began to come off and all collective green souls in New Orleans began to hit the panic button. On the punt return, Brady was stripped of the football by Wildcats CB Lance Carr and LB Brian Smith recovered it deep in Wave territory, putting their team in position to take the lead. QB Charles Hartman's 16-yard touchdown pass to WR Ronnie Brewer did just that, giving the Wildcats a shocking 35-34 lead with under five minutes remaining.

Behind a defense led by MLB Allen Shaw's 10 tackles and 3 sacks, Kentucky would get a stop on Tulane's ensuing drive, forcing the Wave to punt the ball away with just over three minutes remaining.

Behind the running of Baker and Boone, the Wildcats would get first down after first down, driving all the way into Green Wave territory and eventually into the red zone with under two minutes remaining and Tulane down to its final timeout. From there, a bold coaching decision was made as Geezy instructed defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar's unit to allow the Wildcats to score. Boone's 20-yard touchdown run made the score 42-34 with 1:31 remaining, increasing the Wildcats lead, however also giving the Green Wave a chance.

"We weren't going to stop them," said Geezy, who was non-committal when asked about Dunbar's job status during his postgame press conference, stating that the entire team will be re-evaluated during its upcoming bye week. "I had seen enough and I wasn't going to allow them to just run the clock out. Fortunately, they did not catch on, because if the running back simply gets a first down there and gives himself up, the game is over. At that moment, I had more confidence in our offense's ability to drive down for a touchdown and two-point conversion than I did in our defense's ability to get a stop."

Geezy's gamble would pay off, as the Wave would go on a quick 4-play, 57-yard drive on their ensuing possession, culminating with a 25-yard touchdown pass from McBride to WR Adam Lawson to make the score 42-40. Then, Brown would break a tackle at the goal line to inch in for a bruising two-point conversion run, tying the game at 42-42 with just 0:53 remaining.

RB Anthony Brown had to fight through Kentucky DT Jared Charles' tackle attempt in order to barely get past the goal line on this two-point conversion that tied the game up at 42-42 with under a minute remaining in regulation.

Kentucky (3-5) would falter on the final possession of regulation, sending the game into overtime.

In the game's first overtime session, both teams would get touchdowns. Brown's 5-yard touchdown run gave the Wave a 49-42 lead after the first possession of overtime. However, on the ensuing Kentucky drive, Hartman's 20-yard touchdown pass to TE James Meadows on 4th and 5 tied the game up at 49-49, sending the game into a second overtime stanza.

Wildcats PK Chris Fitzpatrick would make up for a first half miss from 54 yards away, nailing a 46-yard field goal to give his team a 52-49 lead in overtime #2.

On the game's final drive, McBride took over. A 10-yard run would give Tulane a first down at the Kentucky 15-yard line. Then, the 5-11 North Carolina native would take a shotgun snap with an empty backfield and saw no one open before scrambling around the left corner for the 15-yard game-ending walk-off touchdown, sending the Superdome crowd into a state of euphoria. McBride finished the game with 351 passing yards and 4 touchdowns to go along with his 25 rushing yards and a touchdown, with his rushing total all netted in overtime. Despite the exciting finish, Geezy was not happy.

"This was a win, and we are obviously happy about that. But sometimes when you win, you don't really feel like you won, and certainly today you feel like you really have nothing to be proud of," said the veteran 17th year head coach. No disrespect to Kentucky, who played a hell of a game, but coming off the disappointment of last week, I thought we'd play a lot better and today I feel like we played worse. We're going to take a look in the mirror over this next week or so and figure out what we're doing wrong. We thought we'd play better, and a three point, double-overtime comeback win in which you give up over 600 yards defensively wasn't what we had in mind coming into today."

Tulane (6-1) now heads into its bye week. In two weeks, the team will travel to Tuscaloosa to face two-time defending SEC and national champion Alabama (7-0) in the team's annual "Tidal Wave Party" rivalry matchup. The Crimson Tide, led by former Green Wave and current redshirt senior RB Deuce Monroe (97 ovr), defeated the Green Wave 32-20 last season at the Mercedes-Benz Supedome and has won three of its past four matchups versus Geezy's squad.

The Situation: RB Anthony Brown has just punched in the game-tying two-point conversion with under a minute to play, sending the crowd into a frenzy and setting the stage for an amazing finish Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Editor's Note: This happened on accident somehow, but apparently I must have hit record on my capture card at some point, as I learned soon after the game that a video file of the game's closing moments was sitting in one of my folders. So I went ahead and created a youtube account for the sole purpose of uploading this video. The relevant portion of the video is only about the first 11 minutes or so, but I don't possess the software or skill to trim it down to where it needs to be. Nevertheless, it was a classic finish and also showcased a small handful of the custom sounds I have added to the game and promised to provide video for some time ago, starting right at the very beginning of the video with the Mardi Gras touchdown celebration music after tying the game...Enjoy!

Kentucky WR Chris Wade caught only one pass, but his 52-yard reception on the game's opening possession put Kentucky in position to grab an early 7-0 lead and set the tone for the day.

Tulane true freshman WR Steve Mosley got a nice assist from junior WR Adam Lawson's downfield block on this 71-yard touchdown that tied the game up at 7-7 early.

Defenders getting to QB Jimmy McBride is a sight that's becoming all too all familiar as MLB Allen Shaw collected 3 of the Wildcats' 4 sacks on the afternoon.

With his team down 14-7 in the first quarter, true freshman CB Kurt Blalock's team-leading 5th interception of the season would lead to points on the Wave's ensuing offensive series.

Redshirt senior WR Kenny Bell, the Green Wave's #4 receiver, had one of the best games of his career, hauling in 3 receptions for 68 yards and 2 touchdowns, and celebrated after this 33-yard touchdown with fans after tying the game up at 14-14 on the final play of the first quarter.

Following Bell's score to end the first quarter, Tulane fans and cheerleaders alike thought the team was set to roll.

McBride had an outstanding day passing the football and finished 18 of 34 for 351 yards and 4 touchdown tosses.

Wave junior star OLB Sean Williamson collected one of his team's four sacks on the afternoon and finished the contest with a game-high 11 tackles.

With his team down 31-28 in the fourth quarter and Tulane threatening, Wildcats FS Sam Hobbs interception thwarted the Wave's red zone attempt and kept his team in the game.

Wildcats QB Charles Hartman's 16-yard touchdown pass to WR Ronnie Brewer gave Kentucky a 35-34 fourth quarter lead, silencing the Mercedes-Benz Superdome crowd.

McBride's 25-yard touchdown pass to WR Adam Lawson with 0:53 remaining made the score 42-40 and put the Green Wave in position to tie the game with a successful two-point conversion.

Wave senior LT Kyle Gray celebrated following RB Anthony Brown's game-tying two-point conversion run that made the score 42-42 and sent the game into OT.

Not long after his game-tying two-point conversion run, RB Anthony Brown celebrated his 5-yard touchdown run with RT Ryan Stewart-Sims and WR Grant Brady as Tulane grabbed a 49-42 lead in overtime.

Facing a 4th and 5 and with his team down by 7 in overtime, Wildcats TE James Meadows' 20-yard touchdown reception tied the game back up at 49-49 and sent the game into a second overtime frame.

QB Jimmy McBride accounted for 5 touchdowns on Saturday, including this 15-yard walk-off touchdown that won the game in double-overtime.

McBride runs to celebrate his game-winning score with teammates while Wildcats DT (#90) showed his frustration with teammates for losing contain on the game's final play.

Well. At least you got the win. That's not what I expected. And that's not how you want to go into the game against Bama.

Dan Rubenstein and Ty Hildebrandt of the Solid Verbal podcast would call that a "letdown-look ahead sandwich," and I think you can figure what they mean.

Still, it's a W. Good luck against Bama. Hope that reevaluation leads to some positive results.

I was concerned about the hangover game that has struck after so many losses. A tight win, closer than it SHOULD have been but if anything, your boys now know they can win a close one.

I like the video. After following for so long it’s intriguing to see how you run the game.

well that was an overly sketchy game against an opponent that shouldve been dead in the water by halftime.

"WHOA NELLIE!" - Keith Jackson/me. That was .... something alright. Very intrigued to see what adjustments you make over the bye - I would not want to be in Tulane practice this week.

Great touch with the video, it was cool to see the differences between gameplay in NCAA 11 (which I never played much) to 14 (which I've played way too much). And thanks to you, I'm off to check out capture cards again.

Thanks brother. Unexpected is an understatement. I exected to go into this one and have my starters sitting by halftime.

Admittedly, I looked past Kentucky. I even spent time looking over Alabama's depth chart and playbook in the days leading up to the Kentucky game. Obviously that was a big mistake and I learned my lesson - no opponent, no matter how poor, should be taken lightly!

Yeah I plan to actually observe the bye week and take my time getting ready, especially with the news bomb I'm about to drop in a moment. My wife and I are set to go to Vegas and when I get back, I will want a few days to figure out what I am going to do defensively, via practice mode. I absolutely HAVE to win this next game. The Bama-Tulane rivalry is real and we also gotta get final payback on Deuce Monroe!

Oh it'll be tightened. If we play against Bama the way we played against Kentucky, we're going to get smoked 70-0!

As you're about to see, big changes are on the way! We're not taking last week's result lightly.

We definitely always find a way to get beaten twice by one team! Thankfully, my squad figured out how to pull one out their rears. I can't explain just how helpless and eerie of a feeling it was, trailing to Kentucky of all teams in the fourth quarter with them driving to try to seal a win. A mix of anger and disappointment.

Glad you enjoyed the video. My only regret was that it did not start a minute or two sooner in order to capture the game-tying drive. That two-point conversion run was especially nerve-wracking and he barely got in. The game even seemed to take an extra couple of seconds to award me with the score.

Sketchy is a good way to put it. After a great start to this season, suddenly I am very nervous about our remaining games.

These next two weeks of practice will be huge and Coach Geezy is definitely bringing the pain. If this was real life, my guys would have been running gassers on Sunday morning after that last game!

Appreciate the kind words on the video. Now that I realize how easy they are to do, I may have to do that every now and then, especially for bigger games. They're also very fun to re-watch, I must say.

And yes, go get a capture card; it completely changes dynasty reporting. I probably wouldn't still be playing today if not for my El Gato! It's a must-buy for any veteran dynasty reporter IMO.
