Yikes. Firing the DC before Alabama. Crazy. I expect the playbook will be limited with only two weeks to prepare for the biggest game of the season.

It's a good call letting go of Dunbar. I'm typically not a fan of midseason changes, so hopefully it's more of a matter of a new play caller and not wholesale changes in terms of scheme. It's risky right before Bama, good thing there's a bye week.

Wow I didn’t see that coming but it makes complete sense. Now how do you reflect this in game? Do you just edit your coach to be someone different with different skills and playbook?

I love the idea of firing your own coordinator haha. Such a realistic story line! Good luck against Bama man, going to be a true test! Can't wait for my own meeting with Bama in my Tennessee dynasty. These SEC teams are crazy tough to play against.

Yeah I was a bit hesitant to do it before such a big game, but I decided that it couldn't get much worse than giving up 600+ to Kentucky.

This was the right time to make a change, with us having a bye week to digest things.

This is my first time ever doing a mid-season change and in this instance, it felt like the most realistic approach. During those final minutes versus Kentucky, particularly when they had the lead late and we couldn't stop them for anything, that's when I decided that it was time for heads to roll.

The 3-4 defense just doesn't suit our personnel, and we can seem to attract the type of players that do. It's left us to vulnerable versus the run in particular.

This is NCAA '11, so sadly there are no assistant coaches in the game, only head coaches. In this story, from a video game standpoint, a "coaching change" equals a playbook change or in-game philosophy change.

Alabama has become insane in my dynasty. They've been virtually unbeatable, winning each of the past two national championships, which I really like. This game is a lot more fun when there is a monster at the top of the mountain that no one can seem to get past, and they've beaten us 3 of the past 4 times we've played. We have our shot to do so next weekend!

Thanks all...The announcement for the specific details on what's in store for Tulane's defense is tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Re: Game 6, Year 17 Preview (2026 season): #2 Notre Dame at #4 Tulane

Just a few random things that stick out, going back to the offseason.

The punter you graduated had one hell of a senior year. 50 yards per punt is insane, and he also had a solid net. The 11 inside the 20 could be improved upon, but that's nitpicking! With a net like that, he was clearly not kicking them through the EZ very often. Obviously the MLB had an incredible year as well, but I trust that got enough press ;-)

A lot going on there in the Ohio State win, a couple of the things I liked were the first-year starter fumbling early and then making amends later (shades of Kareem Hunt!), and then of course surviving a couple of bad breaks to get a huge win in The Shoe. It's the kind of game that makes you want to pick up the sticks and have a go!

Geezy, you continue to amaze with your mastery of storytelling and immersion. I love the depth of the Auburn preview, including the 10-year anniversary of your 2016 title.

I literally spit up some coffee at the family atmosphere memo comment lmao. I noticed the photo was a little risque before I even saw the comment, and it still grabbed me even though I figured it was coming. Good one.

If White Mike could have done a single darn thing on the ground, maybe it offsets those picks and they could have broken the streak. He appears to be mis-nicknamed. :-)

Was Geezy admitting wrongdoing when he indicated Grant Brady is a "conummate professional?" ha Anthony Brown is a player. I bet it was totally worth it.

Almost caught up on this season, I see disappointment looms.

Hellisan ...always a welcomed sight to see your name pop up in this thread.

I'm glad someone pointed out the 10-year anniversary thing. Not very many were around during those prime years, which happened literally like 7 1/2 real time years ago. I never would have imagined I'd be playing this game long enough to even get to a point where I'd be celebrating a 10-year anniversary of anything. I still can't believe that so much time has flown by even with just this Part II project. This thing just made three years old last week!

Also happy you caught the comic relief. If you're like me, you know sometimes the capture card gods can provide some fun, embarrassing poses for some of our cyber-friends in the game.

Good point on White Mike. I never even thought twice about the fact that he's not really running as much I had thought he would. Some teams run their quarterbacks a lot, so I know it isn't just the game. Maybe LSU is ruining yet another promising QB's future.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get Brady involved more. It seems like there just aren't enough footballs to go around. Hopefully he doesn't get too frustrated with his role and leave. I imagine if Adam Lawson bolts early, Brady will see a VERY significant uptick in targets.

And yes, Anthony Brown is the man. Probably the most underrated guy on our team right now, even as a running back. He's quietly playing like a superstar in the ground game. I need to get him more involved in the passing game here in the second half of the season.

Thanks so much for taking the time out to read and provide great feedback as always.

                      DeJean

report courtesy Erin Andrews, FOX Sports

Tulane | DB coach Cam DeJean to run defense
                      Fri, 23 Oct 2026 15:23:24 -0700
Erin Andrews of FOX Sports that Tulane head coach D. Geezy has promoted defensive backs coach Cam DeJean into the role of interim defensive coordinator, replacing recently fired third year defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar. DeJean, who was hired during the 2024 off-season, played under Geezy from 2012-2014. He spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator at UL-Lafayette before joining his alma mater's coaching staff.

Third year defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar (ABOVE) was fired after his 3-4 defense proved to be "consistently too unsound in the running game" according to Geezy.

"We believe a lot in taking care of our own and I believe Cam is ready for the challenge," said Geezy, who also emloys former Wave running back Joe Roberts as his offensive coordinator. "Cam was one of our smartest players that we asked to play in a variety of roles during his time here and he is a very smart coach."

With the Ragin Cajuns, DeJean ran a 4-2-5 defense, however in the interest of continuity, he will run a "Multiple D" scheme for the remainder of this season, utlizing primarily a 4-3 base rather than installing an entirely new system this deep into the season.

"If it was up Cam, we'd be installing a whole new defense over the next few days, but I talked him off that ledge," said Geezy, who indicated that this is DeJean's audition for a permanent role and a shift to a 4-2-5 next season is likely. "For now we will run a similar style to the one we've been playing however with more four man front concepts, including some 46, as well as a lot more man coverage with a little less blitzing, which I think left us vulnerable to big gains in the running game. It'll be similar to the defense he played in when he was here, and he's already talked about utilizing more multiple safety looks like the ones we used him in back in his day."

DeJean, 35, takes over for a defense ranked 79th in the nation, including 105th versus the run. He was a finalist for the team's vacant defensive coordinator position in 2024 before Dunbar ultimately got the position.

"Obviously you never want to be dealing with a staffing change at this point in any season, but we decided we had to make the move," said Geezy. "I love Karl and think he's a great coach, but the results just weren't where we hoped they'd be at this point. Cam gives us a fresh set of eyes and we hope he could be the guy for the future."

Eve Jewell of ESPNU-New Orleans reports that Tulane interim defensive coordinator Cam DeJean has made multiple alterations to the team's defensive depth chart ahead of next weekend's game versus two-time defending national champion Alabama:

                      - Redshirt junior DE Mike Miller (83 ovr) has replaced sophomore DE Ricky Evans (81 ovr) at left defensive end. Evans has 3 sacks this season while Miller has a pair of sacks while playing in a reserve role.

                      - Senior FS Terrell Faulk (80 ovr) has replaced true freshman FS Donnie Sparks (77 ovr) at free safety. Sparks, who leads the team with 45 tackles, including 34 solo stops and also has 1 interception, has had several coverage lapses when the team runs zone but is more adept in man coverage. Jewell indicates that he will still see playing time in certain packages due to his man coverage skills, including operating as the team's dime cornerback in place of senior CB P.J. Reese (71 ovr).

                      - True freshman CB Kurt Blalock (75 ovr) has replaced redshirt junior CB Benny Smith (75 ovr) as the team's starting right cornerback in base sets. Blalock, the Wave's current nickel back, leads the team with 5 interceptions this season. He will still remain at slot corner whenever the team utilizes three or more cornerback personnel, with Smith playing on the boundry opposite #1 CB J.T. Hills (76 ovr) in those multiple cornerback sets.

Alabama | RB Monroe angry about Dunbar's firing
                      Sun, 25 Oct 2026 06:23:24 -0700
Taylor Bisciotti of ESPN's SEC Network reports that Alabama RB Deuce Monroe (97 ovr), who transferred from Tulane following the 2022 season and served as the Crimson Tide's scout team running back during his 2023 redshirt season following the transfer, is angry about the Green Wave's dismissal of defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar. Monroe, who is coming off career-high 231 rushing yard performance during this past weekend's win versus Vanderbilt, worked closely with Dunbar during his scout team days, back when Dunbar was the Crimson Tide's defensive line coach.

He expressed his thoughts to Bisciotti following his team's win over Vanderbilt and did not mince his words.

"Coach Dunbar and I go way back. He's someone that recruited me back when I was in high school and we developed a friendship during my first year here in Tuscaloosa and really how he treated me when trying to get me to Bama played a big role in me later transferring," said Monroe, who has had a well-documented very tumultuous relationship with Green Wave head coach D. Geezy.

"It doesn't surprise me that Geezy would let go of someone loyal to him and cast the blame on someone other than himself. That's just how the man is - cut throat.

"I don't need a whole lot of fuel to get up for a game against Tulane, but this is just more gasoline on the fire. This is my last shot to get at them and I plan to make it count."

Monroe, a 5-8 180 pound redshirt senior, is 8th in the nation this season with 894 rushing yards and is second in the nation with 12 rushing touchdowns. He finished the 2025 season, his first year as a starter, with 1,426 rushing yards and 17 scores.

He reminds me of LaMichael James. Small but doesn't play like it. Surprised a Bama team is allowing so much talk from a player.

Not sure those cornerback changes will help, but I hope the safety change does.

                        Good luck.

I switched to that same playbook at Sonoma State. I wanted some sets to get 4 LB's on the field as they are my strongpoint, but I felt a 2 or 3 man front in nickel was too susceptible to the run. Time will tell if it works out...for both of us! lol

On another note...shut Monroe up! I can't stand a dude willing to badmouth his old coach..."if you don't have something nice to say..." Hope he comes out of the game with 15 carries for 3 yards lol

Monroe's just mad that his easy opportunity to gash the Tulane D went away when Dunbar left. What a chump.

Sheesh, I leave for a month only to find everything changing! Dunbar is canned, Geezy isn't seeing Andrews anymore, we got decent quarterback play?! ...I kid of course. I think canning Dunbar was about the only move you had there after the stretch of games the defense has had. I am hopeful the new switch will help keep the plays in front of you. It seems like runners have just been going wild lately and with Deuce on the way, we can't have that. Speaking of Deuce, no surprise to see him still running his mouth. Some things never change I suppose.

I will be curious to see what direction you go with the defense during the offseason...dare i say Mr Bounty Hunter himself (Kelly) gets a call from his old friend...

As always my friend, your storytelling, presentation and just overall work leaves us all something to aspire too. I am really looking forward to being around more and keeping up to date on this, my own project and the rest of OS.

Now let's go to work and get back on track against 'Bama. Loving this as always.
