    Good luck.
LaMichael James is a very good comparison for Deuce. He also reminds me of Darren Sproles, who was also an undersized feature back at Kansas St.

You're right, Saban needs to put a muzzle on that guy, but maybe Nick enjoys that type of player banter these days.

The hope with the cornerback change is that INT production goes up. Blalock has been a ball magnet this year as a freshman, picking off 5 passes. It seems if he gets two hands on the ball, he is definitely coming down with it, so I want him to have more opportunities. Blalock has a 65 CTH rating versus Smith's 57, so that plays a big part in his turnover-producing ability. That difference seems small, but I've analyzed this before and it seems to me that once a player's catch rating gets into the mid-60's, his hands become a lot more reliable, on both offense and defense.

On another note...shut Monroe up! I can't stand a dude willing to badmouth his old coach..."if you don't have something nice to say..." Hope he comes out of the game with 15 carries for 3 yards lol
I've used the Multiple D playbook for probably half of the seasons of this dynasty; I always seem to go back to it. It's a good catchall option, but what I don't like about it now is that it doesn't truly give your team an identity. I will probably choose something different in the off-season, but we'll see how this goes and worry about next year at the end of this campaign. Our personnel next year may end up better suited for the 4-2-5, especially considering the two blue chip safeties we just signed a few weeks back.

Monroe is definitely going to get our best shot. He is 2-0 against us, and this will be our last opportunity to get back at him. I sure hope we can shut that clown up. He really screwed us over when he left, especially considering where he went.

Agreed. He was licking his chops. From what I can tell in practice mode, we should be a lot more sound in the running game. The 3-man front in this game just doesn't seem to function properly with my current personnel, and now 3 years in with Dunbar, we no longer have time to wait to see if we can get the right type of players.

I hate to admit it, but he's earned it. He is one of the top players on the top team, and come to think of it, has never lost a single game since becoming eligible to play there.

It seems like runners have just been going wild lately and with Deuce on the way, we can't have that. Speaking of Deuce, no surprise to see him still running his mouth. Some things never change I suppose.

I will be curious to see what direction you go with the defense during the offseason...dare i say Mr Bounty Hunter himself (Kelly) gets a call from his old friend...

As always my friend, your storytelling, presentation and just overall work leaves us all something to aspire too. I am really looking forward to being around more and keeping up to date on this, my own project and the rest of OS.

Now let's go to work and get back on track against 'Bama. Loving this as always.

Always great to hear from you brother. Hopefully you can get back into the swing of things again; I know life can be very hectic at times. I can speak for everyone when saying we miss having you around though.

"Decent" QB play is an understatement. McBride's 23 to 4 TD to INT ratio in particular has me very excited. I haven't seen #s like that in a long time, and something that doesn't get reported on is that he currently leads the nation with a 194.8 quarterback rating. Back when we first signed him, I thought he'd be a project that could develop into a nice piece, and I must say, the kid has developed quite nicely and is emerging as an elite passer. The thing I like the most about him is his ability to extend plays and ability to throw accurately on the run.

Charles Kelly is certainly someone always laying in the weeds. One real life note on him that is that he is no longer the defensive coordinator at Florida St. these days and is just a safeties coach at Tennessee now. That said, and I'll never say never to a return, I think DeJean has a good chance to stick around here unless he falls flat on his face.

I appreciate the kind words as always brother, and I look forward to seeing you around again. Things haven't been the same without my boy Cheese chiming in and picking up on all of this dynasty's Easter Eggs and I am also ready to see the next chapter in Eastern Michigan's rise.

Game 8, Yr. 17 Preview (2026 season): #9 Tulane Green Wave at #2 Alabama Crimson Tide

      GAME 8 PREVIEW

      Courtesy

RIVALRY GAME: THE TIDAL WAVE PARTY

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

      ....................9 1/2....................

2025: Former Tulane RB Deuce Monroe celebrated this 30-yard fourth quarter touchdown run that made the score 25-13 and virtually broke his former team's back.

Last Meeting: Last season, then-#1 ranked Tulane trailed for almost the entire game before eventually losing to then-#2 ranked Alabama 32-20 last season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Former Tulane and now-current Alabama RB Deuce Monroe gashed his old team for 188 rushing yards on 24 carries and two scores while the Crimson Tide defense sacked QB Jimmy McBride six times on the way to a big win on the Tide's march to a second straight national title. The loss for Tulane marked their third in their last four attempts versus Bama, and also all but clinched a fourth straight year without a conference championship for the Wave.

2024: Alabama's dynamic duo of RB Cameron Miller and RB Deuce Monroe combined for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns during the Tidal Wave Party two years ago.

Last Meeting at Venue: Two seasons ago, then-#4 ranked Alabama stormed out to a 17-3 lead and held off a late fourth quarter rally to oust then-#11 Tulane in a 20-10 victory at Tuscaloosa. Like he had in each of his previous three meetings versus the Green Wave, former Tide RB Cameron Miller dominated, rushing 15 times for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. His partner in crime, former Tulane RB Deuce Monroe, also had a great evening versus his former team, gaining 91 yards on the ground. The Crimson Tide defense sacked former Green Wave QB Bryce Allen a whopping 9 times, helping to lead Alabama to its second win over Tulane in the two teams' last three meetings and eventually the 2024 BCS National Championship.

      Trip Down Memory Lane
Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Tulane's 2016 BCS National Title

2016: RB Brett Curtis too a handoff and spins his way past a defender on the way to a 26-yard third quarter touchdown which gave Tulane a commanding 27-10 lead.

Last Meeting (Legacy Classic): Back during their run of winning 2 national titles over the span of 3 seasons, then-#8 ranked Tulane had no problems disposing of then-#2 ranked Alabama, absolutely pummeling the Crimson Tide 41-13 in 2016 at Tuscaloosa and sparking the team's title run. Former Green Wave RB Brett Curtis, who transferred to Tulane from Alabama, steamrolled his former squad for 132 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground, while former Wave great Reggie Moore finished the contest with 49 rushing yards to go along with 89 receiving yards and 2 touchdown catches to help improve the team's record to 8-1 on the way to winning the program's first ever national title.

      Head Coach D. Geezy's Take

Tulane head coach D. Geezy addressed the media early this week.

You never want to admit this as a coach or as a a team, but this game has been marked on our calendars since the beginning of the season. I've personally have had Alabama on my mind almost every day since our last game with them. They're the two-time defending champions of our conference and of college football, they have won 39 straight games, and are really the gold standard of where we aim to get back to. We have lost 3 of our last 4 games versus them, so we're hungry to re-establish ourselves in this rivalry.

Their team is loaded from top to bottom on both offense and defense. The most important takeaway when studying their tape is that to win, we'll need to limit mistakes and take advantage of the turnover opportunities they present you with. What is also apparent, both in studying their close games versus Tennessee and Florida this year as well as reviewing our previous matchups with them, is we absolutely must establish the running game. Both the Vols and Gators had success versus them this year with the run, with both teams' starting backs getting over 30 carries for 150+ yards, and I think that helped keep things close.

We are very big into analytics here, and if you go over each of our past 6 or 7 matchups versus the Tide, you'll notice a trend. In the games we lost or struggled, we failed to put together any sembalance of a running game, not having a single back have more than six carries - you're not going to beat Bama by throwing the ball all over the place. Don't get me wrong, we will take our shots, but to beat them you have to have a sound rushing attack and I am not giving away any state secrets in saying that we want to get the ground game going early on Saturday. Both Anthony Brown and Teddy Jenkins will both need to have their chinstraps buckled for this one because we plan to feed them well this weekend.

If we can run the ball, limit turnovers and sacks, and take advantage of big play opportunities when they present themselves, we have a very strong chance to come out of there with one of our biggest wins since I have been with this program.

      - Tulane head coach D. Geezy

Cannot wait to see how this game plays out! The Deuce Saga adds yet another chapter and man what a storyline that has become. Tulane needs to get revenge on the one that “got” away.

        ———

On the defensive playbook decision, I’ve run the 4-2-5 for two of my teams over the many dynasties I’ve played and I love it. When I saw those two safety signings at the beginning of the year I instantly thought about plugging them into my former defenses and having them roam all over the field. I agree with you that rolling with a multiple D lacks a team identity.

In terms of real time, we signed Deuce in July of 2016, making it literally two years ago this month that he entered this story. Boy has the time flown by and now here we go one last time with this cyber-character.

His departure really derailed things for us. There's no doubt in my mind that had he stayed, we'd having a ring or two by now. That said, it sure has made for some fun story-telling.

I haven't had the time yet to really do another deep dive look into the 4-2-5 playbook. I did a couple of off-seasons ago back when we were making a coordinator change and I remember it looking very intriguing for a team that wants to use multiple safeties. We'll see how things go down the line on that and see if I still have an appetite for that style of defense.

For now though, time to get things going versus Bama! I can't tell you how excited I am for this one. I'm even watching the intro video before the game kicks off in a few minutes!

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul

For my part, I'll say that I've consistently found the 4-2-5 frustrating because the linebacker assignments aren't accurate. I.e. the depth chart says you're starting two outside linebackers when it's really lolb and mlb, iirc. One way I found to run a 4-2-5 effectively back in the PS2 days was to use a 4-3 playbook and start the second safety at nickel, an idea I got from 2011 LSU.

I think the 3-3-5 is really useful. You can rotate to a 5-linebacker set from stack and a 3-4 from okie with packages. There are sometimes alignment issues, but that's no different than 4-2-5.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll work something out.

            Good luck against Bama.

            ---

Looking over your preview, I kinda feel like y'all are just a year away. You'll only be replacing four of your starting 22 next year. They'll be replacing eleven, maybe 12 depending on whether the QB stays or goes. If the new defense - whatever it ends up being - gels, and the offense continues to improve, you should be fantastic.

But we'll worry about next year's campaign next year. Good luck again.

As an offensive guy, and especially a passing guy, I find the 4-2-5 the most difficult to beat. TCU still runs it in 2022 in my dynasty. There's a lot of run support with that 3rd safety, but the secondary is crowded when I try to pass. It really limits the 5-10 yard range especially, which is usually where I go. It also shuts down slant routes, which is my go to for short yardage and to get my QB in a rhythm.

Thanks for the insight into the 4-2-5.

One thing I am big of is formation subs, so if I do make the switch, I'd plan to deploy different linebackers for each of the different 4-2-5 formation types, personnel permitting. Your idea of running a 4-3 and putting a safety at nickel is intriguing too, I must say. There will be some interesting decisions to make in the off-season there.

As for your team assessment, this team is super-close already and I wouldn't count us out this year just yet! After Saturday night's result, we are in position to possibly make a run at this thing this year.

Thanks man. I think we'll have the talent necessary to run it, especially in the defensive backfield with our two new blue chip safety signings coming in next year.

Our games against TCU the past couple of seasons I think are what turned me on to the possibility of running a 4-2-5. That along with just the mere fact that I have never done it before. One of the things that keeps this dynasty evolving for me is trying out new things every once in a while, and that type of defense certainly would fit the bill. I have never run that style of defense on any game. We'll see what the future brings.

Game 8, Year 17 (2026 season): #9 Tulane Green Wave at #2 Alabama Crimson Tide

RIVALRY GAME: THE TIDAL WAVE PARTY

                    #9 31 -- 7-1 (6-0)
                    #2 16 -- 8-1 (5-1)

Tulane RB Anthony Brown had the best game of his career and celebrated over Alabama SS Patrick Humphrey following his first of two touchdowns on the day.

Tulane marches into Tuscaloosa and takes down two-time defending national champion Alabama, reassumes control of the SEC West with a triumphant 31-16 victory | Incredibly efficient offense combined with strong debut by new defensive coordinator DeJean puts Green Wave in prime position to win SEC for the first time in five seasons | RB Anthony Brown finishes with 188 yards and 2 touchdowns as Wave puts a halt to Bama's 39-game winning streak | Now one win away from clinching SEC West division title, team will host #17 Arkansas next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome

Tuscaloosa, AL -- #2 Alabama had not lost since losing to Tulane 27-24 late in the 2023 season, and since then, the Crimson Tide had enjoyed a 39-game winning streak while winning each of the last two BCS National Championships - key word, "had." On Saturday Night, that all came crashing down as the #9 ranked Green Wave went into Tuscaloosa and took down Goliath in a shocking 31-16 mauling on Halloween Night. QB Jimmy McBride threw 2 touchdown passes while RB Anthony Brown rushed for 2 more touchdowns as the Green Wave got a steady offensive performance to go along with a strong defensive performance in order to defeat a Crimson Tide squad the school had lost 3 of its past 4 games to.

As he has been most of this season, redshirt junior QB Jimmy McBride was steady and efficient, finishing the game 11 of 13 for 170 yards with 2 touchdown passes and no interceptions.

Tulane came out of the gates swinging early. After getting a stop on the game's opening series, which featured 6 runs by former Tulane RB Deuce Monroe on Bama's first 7 plays, the Green Wave offense went right to work.

McBride's 24-yard pass to freshman WR Steve Mosley on the the Wave's very first play from scrimmage set the tone and they never looked back. The pair would hook up again to conclude the 8-play drive, this time for a 9-yard touchdown connection that gave the visitors a 7-0 lead. McBride went 4 of 4 for 53 yards on the possession, and that efficiency was the theme of the evening for the redshirt junior.

"We wanted to punch them in the mouth early," said Wave offensive coordinator Joe Roberts. "We knew coming in that we wanted to feature the running game, but we felt it was real important to come out aggressively and get an early lead and momentum."

Alabama struggled for much of the first half offensively, getting consistently stymied by debut Green Wave defensive coordinator Cam DeJean's unit while struggling to get their starting running back and the former Wave transfer Monroe to break loose for one of his signature big plays. The Crimson Tide would not get on the board until midway through the second quarter when Tide OLB Seth Foster got McBride in his grasp and drove him through the back of the end zone for a safety that cut his team's deficit to 10-2. McBride was sacked three times on the day, all in the first half.

RB Deuce Monroe had trouble breaking any of his signature big runs as his longest gain of the day was this 17-yard effort early in the game. However, the former Tulane transfer finished the game with 115 rushing yards on 22 carries while also surpassing former Tide RB Shaun Alexander as the school's all-time leading rusher.
PK Max Holley's 41-yard field goal on Alabama's ensuing possession following the safety free kick would make the score 10-5 late in the second quarter, and that would be about as close as they would get the rest of the way.

McBride's 43-yard touchdown pass to WR Adam Lawson culminated a 4-play 73-yard march to open the second half and put Tulane on top 17-5. McBride finished the day 11 of 13 for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns, giving him 25 touchdowns compared to only 4 interceptions on the season.

"We came in saying that we'd need to play near flawless today, and I can already tell you that I am going to have a tough time finding very many mistakes on the film tomorrow morning," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy to CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson after the game. "Jimmy led us today and his execution of the offense as far as the passing game was near-perfection, as it has been most of the year thus far."

Following McBride and Lawson's connection, Brown and the Green Wave running game would begin to take things over. The sophomore running back's 21-yard touchdown run concluded a 9-play 77-yard drive which lasted 3:30 and made the score 24-5 late in the third quarter.

Later, with the game still somewhat in doubt with the Wave up 24-8 in the fourth quarter, Brown and the Wave offense went for the dagger. A demoralizing 13-play 78-yard march that featured 12 runs and lasted 4:29 drained the life out of the Crimson Tide. The sophomore runner's 7-yard touchdown carry to end the drive made the score 31-8 and all but put the game away with 5:04 remaining. Brown finished the contest with 29 carries for 188 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, all career-highs.

The Crimson Tide (8-1) would not go down that easily and would get a touchdown pass from QB Sidney McCollum to WR Jimmy Adams followed by a two point conversion pass from McCollum to WR Victor Williams that cut the deficit to 31-16 with 3:12 to go. However, Mosley's onside kick recovery would thwart any hopes of a miracle comeback as Brown and the Wave rushing attack would successfully run out the remainder of the clock.

Tulane sophomore RB Anthony Brown put an exclamation point on his career performance when he dragged Alabama OLB Seth Foster into the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown that gave the Wave a commanding 31-8 fourth quarter lead.

McCollum finished the game just 13 of 20 for 146 yards with 1 touchdown, all season-lows.

"We knew coming in that they'd try to get Deuce going early and once we got the big lead, it made them one-dimensional," said DeJean, who was running the defense for the first time following former defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar's firing last week.

The former Tulane player's unit's effort drew the praise of Geezy.

"We played outstanding on both sides of the ball. Hats off to Cam and the way he handled the defense today," said Geezy, whose defense held Monroe to 115 rushing yards after seeing him gash his defense for 188 rushing yards during last year's 32-20 loss at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

"We still have a long way to go, but if we can play like this week-in and week-out, not turning the ball over while playing rock solid defense, watch out."

Tulane (7-1) will host #17 Arkansas (6-2) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Green Wave knocked off the Razorbacks 38-31 last season at frigid Fayetville.

A win by the Wave would clinch them their first SEC West title since 2023 and put them in position to possibly win their first SEC title in five years.

Former Tulane RB Deuce Monroe, who came into Saturday having never lost as an eligible member of the Crimson Tide, was visibly distraught late in the game after seeing his dream of a third straight national title come crashing down at the hands of his former team in what will be his final season.

Alabama QB Sidney McCollum fired up his troops in the pregame as the Crimson Tide looked to potentially win their whopping 40th straight contest.

Green Wave fans rolled deep into Tuscaloosa and watched their team take an early 7-0 lead over the two-time defending national champs.

Alabama DT Dominique Mason gave the safety signal after OLB Seth Foster pushed QB Jimmy McBride through the back of the end zone for a first half safety.

Tulane senior DE T.J. Pearson was hyped up after stuffing former Green Wave RB Deuce Monroe behind the line of scrimmage early.

It was a very defensive first half, and Bama DE Riley Howard's takedown of QB Jimmy McBride was one of three first half sacks for the Crimson Tide defense.

McBride was lucky not to get called for a penalty after taunting Alabama's sideline following a 26-yard scramble for a first down on the first play of the 3rd quarter.

The Green Wave offense targeted Alabama SS Patrick Humphrey (#20) often in the passing game and here WR Adam Lawson beat him for a 43-yard touchdown that extended his team's lead to 17-5 early in the third quarter.

Tulane head coach D. Geezy congratulated McBride following his touchdown pass to Lawson to conclude the first possession of the 3rd quarter.

After seeing their team go down 24-5, Alabama fans knew what time it was and began to get very uncomfortable in the stands.

Monroe did not break very many long runs on Saturday, however his effort was enough to surpass former Alabama RB Shaun Alexander as the Tide's all-time leading rusher. He and Geezy would embrace following the game despite the two men having clashed several times over the past couple of year's following Monroe's transfer to his hometown team.

Tulane players, fans, and cheerleaders alike began the celebration early after the Green Wave took a commanding 31-8 lead in the fourth quarter.

Following the game's final kneel down, McBride and his offensive line teammates relish after taking down the kings of college football at their house.

After the game's final whistle, RB Anthony Brown jumped and stood on the bench to salute the Tulane fans in attendance following a career performance that earned him Player of the Game honors.

Despite watching their 39-game winning streak go down in a stunning dominant fashion, Alabama players still showed class after the game.

A player Tulane once recruited heavily, Alabama senior DT Dominique Mason walked off the field with his head hanging after seeing his team lose for the first time in three seasons.

Woot! Great win there! I hope this is the beginning of a new winning streak, within the season and against Alabama.

Flawless execution, great play by the defense. Hold onto that momentum. Be prepared for Arkansas to give you all they have.

Amazing, amazing win! It would have only been right for your program to end that historic win streak. Now you’re going to need a lot of help stop the polls in order to sneak into the BCS title game. Regardless of that happens or not, playing for another SEC title would be a large step in the right direction. Keep your foot on the gas and finish this season strong!

Another question: how long does it take you to play a game, edit the photos and complete the write up? And the specifics you have in the game review, I have to assume you have a notepad on hand at all times to write down some key notes. Great stuff as always my man!

Hell of a win, a dominant running game can do wonders. When you pass it under 20 times total, that’s a very good sign.

It was great to break out, especially after Kentucky. The wave is back on track and can make a run at it again. Screw Alabama! Lol

Huge win to keep the quest for the natty alive! Arkansas has given you trouble in the past tho, so you’re not out of the woods just yet.

Great win for Geezy and the crew! Much needed, too. I've said that I don't hate Monroe like everyone else (but I also tend to root for villains in entertainment, it's just more fun, imo), so it was good to know Monroe and Geezy shared a moment after the game. Once a Wave, always still partially a Wave, no matter what he said.

Also, just a little bit of nitpicking: Monroe passed Shaun Alexander's rushing yards record of 3565. Derrick Henry is the IRL leader in all time yards for Bama at 3591, so Monroe is going to pass Derrick Henry. Mark Ingram is sixth all time at just over 3200 yards.
