Oh yeah, tanking for Yao? Sounds like a good plan. I loved the T-Mac/Yao connection on Houston, but the two never could quite stay healthy enough to play together at their best.

In this fantasy world here, I'd be plenty happy to see that duo suit up together for Orlando and stay healthy as they lead the Magic to prominence.

Thanks man, took about 5 months to put together that roster mod! Well worth it for me playing wise too!

Yep they are looking at Yao and Jay Williams. I'll have draft prospect view up over the next few days! Really good throwback feel reading draft previews!

Yeah they missed out on Timmy Duncan so Yao would complete the Big 3 nicely. If, Grant Hill can stay on the floor. I couldn't believe reading that he was out injured with a broken ankle! Accurate roster! I'm adding in storylines based on team standings etc..

          2002 NBA Draft Prospects

          2002 NBA Draft Prospects

          February 2nd, 2002 | by insidehoops.com

          1. Jay Williams 6-2 195, Duke - Junior - PG
          21.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.2 apg, 46 percent shooting.
Can score and beat people off the dribble. Needs work on free throw shooting and shot selection. Could go first unless the team picking is totally set at the guard spots. Not much between the top two guys.

          2. Yao Ming 7-5 280, Shanghai Sharks (China) - C
          29.7 ppg, 18.5 rpg; 69% shooting
Quick for size, can really play. Strong base, skinny upper body. Can shoot with range. The only worry with taking him is that he (well, his people in China) only want him to play for a select few teams. This could keep him from going #1.

          3. Mike Dunleavy Jr. - Duke - Junior - SF
Naturally, we are required to wonder if he's "the next Larry Bird." The second 'Dukie' in the draft. They're deep this year.

          4. Caron Butler 6-7 235, Connecticut - Soph - SF
          19.5 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 48 percent shooting
Tough inside, shoots from anywhere on the court. Rebounds very well.

          5. Drew Gooden 6-10 230, Kansas - Junior - PF
          20.3 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 51 percent shooting
Excellent athlete, rebounder, versatile enough to play SF, but a natural PF. Might be an NBA "tweener" which may cause a little concern. Very strong, jumps, has post moves.

          6. Dajuan Wagner 6-2 200, Memphis - Freshman - PG
          21.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 3.4 apg, 39 percent shooting
Scores like crazy, shooting percentage is low but he was just a freshman. Can shoot from anywhere and drive past you. The only issue is that his height says that he's an NBA point guard, but his game says shooting guard. He may have to be used like Philly uses Allen Iverson. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

          7. Qyntel Woods 6-9 225, Northeast Mississippi C.C. Soph - SF
Multi-skilled, athletic, do-it-all type player. Great size, quickness. Good handle who can take you off the dribble or kill you from behind the arc. Compared to Tracy McGrady.

          8. Nikoloz Tskitishvili 6'11" 212, Italy - F
Raw, like a 7-foot tall two-guard, can cross-over, dribble, drive, and shoot outside. Very athletic. Needs to bulk up and learn to play better defense. The next Pau Gasol?

          9. Maybner Hilario 6'10" 260, Brazil - PF
          11.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 50 percent shooting
Fantastic athlete, has post game, rebounds, blocks shots. Very aggressive. Could go much higher.

          10. Chris Wilcox 6-10 225, Maryland - Soph - PF
          11.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 50 percent shooting
Great athlete, has unlimited potential. Soft touch around the basket, can also rebound and block shots. Developing nice post moves. Many think he'll develop into something special.

          11. Curtis Borchardt 7-0 230, Stanford - Junior - C
          17 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 2.8 bpg, 58 percent shooting
Big man with a number of post moves. Good rebounder and shot blocker. Has 3 point range. Not the strongest guy in the world. Has had injury problems. Some worry he'll be a stiff.

          12. Amare Stoudemire 6-10 240, Cypress Creek H.S. - HS Senior - PF
          30 ppg, 16 rpg, 6 bpg (HS)
A physical monster. Tries to dunk everything, but needs to improve jump-shot. Has the desire to work hard to develop an NBA game.

          13. Jared Jeffries 6-10 220, Indiana - Soph - SF
          15.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 45 percent shooting
Knows the game. Can do everything. Great handle, can score inside and out. Rebounds well. Can create for other players, as well as himself. Does he really have an NBA body, or is he meant for college?

          14. Kareem Rush 6-6 215, Missouri - Junior - SG
          20.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.1 apg, 43 percent shooting
          An outside shooter.

          15. Bosjan Nachbar 6-8 220, Benetton Treviso (Italy) - Gifted athlete, with a nice outside shooting touch. Like we predicted, his stock has risen considerably.

          16. Melvin Ely 6-10 256, Fresno State - Senior - PF
          23.5 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 3.3 bpg, 56 percent shooting
Excellent shot-blocker, good athlete for big man. Has put on weight to help his post game. Does he have the desire to keep improving?

          17. Marcus Haislip 6-9 220, Tennessee - Junior - PF
          16.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.8 bpg, 52 percent shooting.
Incredible athlete. Jumps out of the gym, and extremely strong. Excellent shot blocker. Still developing offensively. Massive potential, could go much higher.

          18. Dan Dickau 6-1 189, Gonzaga - PG
          20.8 ppg, 4.9 apg, 45 percent shooting.
Lightning quick point guard who can drive and shoot with range. Understands how to be a point guard. Like John Stockton, he went to Gonzaga. Will he imitate Stockton in the NBA? Needs to improve defense. Stock is rising.

          19. Frank Williams 6-3 205, Illinois - Junior - PG
          15.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 4.2 apg, 38 percent shooting.
Strong point guard with great handle and passing abilities. Can score, but lacks speed. Excellent defender. Could go anywhere in the first round depending on how workouts go.

          20. Jiri Welsch 6-6 205, Czech Republic - G
Guard who can play both positions.

          21. Carlos Boozer 6-9 270, Duke - Junior - PF
          18.1 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 5.2 apg, 66 percent shooting.
Huge frame, strong and agile. Solid post game and can make mid-range shots.

          22. Roger Mason 6-5 201, Virginia - Junior - PG
Ability to play both guard positions should make him a first rounder. Excellent shooter who can also create for teammates.

          23. Jason Jennings 7-0 250, Arkansas St. - Runs the floor well for big man. Soft touch around the basket. Strength an asset, good shot blocker.

          24. Rod Grizzard 6-8 205, Alabama - Very athletic, offensive minded player who can play shooting guard and small forward. Injuries may be a concern.

          25. Dan Gadzuric 6-11 245, UCLA - Senior - Center
          11.3 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.2 bpg, 55 percent shooting.
Very athletic. Has had injury problems. Skills aren't developing as quickly as hoped.

          26. Sam Clancy 6-7 240, Southern California - SF
          19 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 50 percent shooting.
Has added a 20 foot jumper to enhance offensive game. Can rebound with the best. Excellent footwork. Size is questionable.

          27. Steve Logan 6-0 196, Cincinnati - Could be a steal if he drops this late. Very quick, explosive point guard who has the ability to take games over when called upon. Staying all 4 years a plus.

          28. Luis Scola 6-10 230 PF, Argentina - Strong big man with a nice shooting touch and good moves in the post.

          29. Boris Diaw-Riffiod, 6'7'' 201, France - A rare European who loves playing above the rim. He has explosive leaping ability and is a good rebounder and passer for his size.

          30. Chris Jefferies, 6'8'' 220, Fresno State - Athletic forward, excellent defender. Needs to polish offensive game.

great write up on the draft and outside the top 2 a pretty weak draft and even both them should have low injury ratings ... man Yao would be a nightmare on 2k at 7'5

So many familiar names in that draft, good dive on it. Interested to see if certain careers, like Jay Williams, end up being better in this world than in the real one.

Yeah but hopefully a few sleepers in there. Not the strongest draft for sure... Big prize of Yao and Jay Williams looks good too.

Yeah I hope he does have a decent career, I want to do this for a few seasons so I can see guys like him blossom. Few good euros there too. Have to admit my eye is always on the 2003 draft. Minimum I'll play is as far as 2004 to see Big things happen. Very fun roster to play with.

Tracy McGrady had one of those Kobe nights --8 of 22, ouch.

Meanwhile MJ is putting a hurting on the young folk and look at the help he's getting from Laettner and Alexander!

Kwame is inhaling boards (and hitting his free throws?!). Wizards are grooving right now.

Yeah he certainly did a good Kobe impression! A Kobe 2017 impression!Jordan can still dominate on a once off basis, not just the scoring, it's his all around game. Laettner has been impressive. Very solid on offense and the boards. Defense has picked up too. Yea when Alexander scores I generally win! Kwame is a beast on the boards!

Yeah 'IF!!!' Kwame can score more than 4.4ppg then we could win the East, but his hands aren't great. He needs to work on his back to basket game, regularly clanks off the rim. Has an average mid range jumper if left open, he's been an excellent passer from high post though, mostly kickouts to Jordan and Hamilton so he has a very high assist rate!

                            NBA Trade Deadline 2002

Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors go all in at deadline, Sonics get younger.
                            February 8th, 2002 | by espn.com

What a night, three blockbuster trades, and a few minor but underrated ones. Our man Bill Simmons breaks the trade's down in detail:

                            Blockbuster #1
Utah gets Latrell Sprewell, Marcus Camby, Mark Jackson and Lavor Postell.
New York gets Byron Russell, Donyell Marshall, John Starks, Greg Ostertag and a 2003 #1 pick.

The Utah Jazz who are currently 5 games out of the playoffs have made a trade to swing for the fences. They gave up 3 players on expiring deals, along with Ostertag and a 2003 unprotected first round pick for the playoff tested duo of Sprewell and Marcus Camby. Incase those two athletes weren't enough, the Knicks threw in another vet in Mark Jackson. Sprewell will likely switch to Shooting Guard and form an interesting backcourt with John Stockton, now much more athletic. Rookie Small Forward Andrei Kirilenko will now get a chance to start after a solid showing so far this year.

Marcus Camby will be a massive upgrade over Greg Ostertag at Center. Camby's defense and aerial threat around the rim will certainly thrive with John Stockton running pick and rolls. The Jazz now have two of the best Pick and Roll big men in the league.

The Knicks are clearly done with their current roster, and Owner James Dolan is unhappy at being stuck with the highest payroll in the league. The Knicks have had Head Coach Jeff Van Gundy already walk out this season, and now disgruntled stars Sprewell and Camby are gone too. Is James Dolan finally weeding out all the bad karma from the Knicks? The unprotected 2003 first round pick could be a good one, or it could be bad, but the Utah Jazz feel they can give Stockton and Malone two more good runs before they retire.

                            Blockbuster #2
                            Toronto gets Rashard Lewis
Seattle gets Keon Clark, Mo Peterson and Dell Curry.

Seattle replaces Lewis with Mo-Pete and Desmond Mason (Mason has shown a lot of promise this year). Clearly Seattle is looking to get younger and build a new core (More on this later...) Clark gives them a much-needed frontcourt boost. There isn't a more underrated player in the league right now than Keon Clark. I'm not kidding. I kept writing this and nobody listened to me, until now. If he plays 40 minutes a game, he'll be a 20/10 guy, night after night.

Anyway, the Sonics need to shoot 50 percent or higher to beat anyone good, because they can't crash the offensive boards or grab a big rebound when it matters. Clark would change that. The Sonics won't win much more this year, but they now have 3 solid youngish guys to build around with Radmanovic and Mason too.

As for the Raptors, Clark is expendable because they still have Hakeem, Antonio Davis and Jerome Williams, and he's a free agent after the season (and they're already over the $53 million mark, with Vince's contract kicking in next July). More importantly, they need another scorer who can take pressure off Vince (the Raptors play too many games where Vince scores 35 and the next highest guy has 11). Lewis isn't aggressive enough and hates going inside (Part of the reason Seattle were so poor this year); on Toronto, he could hang outside and feast on those open 3s that Vince creates. Perfect team for him.

                            Blockbuster #3
                            Portland gets Gary Payton
                            Seattle gets Damon Stoudemire

Change of scenery for both guys, even though they could probably commute to work from their current homes.. Payton may just fit in better with the older more mature.. Sorry older, more immature Blazers... Either way, Payton is a force to be reckoned with, and now he's surrounded by older guys who want to win and fight maybe.. The Blazers are currently in 5th place two games behind the Mavericks and this could give them a final push to crack the top four seeds and get home court for the playoffs again.

Seattle get a few years younger with Stoudemire who is well able to run a team and score. He should thrive with this team, and the Sonics need a fresh start. They certainly should have that after this trade deadline. If Stoudemire decides to just shoot 20 plus shots a night, well it helps the Sonics get a good draft pick and then he only has one more year remaining on his contract. Sonics new owner Howard Schulz needed to get Payton off the team, he was causing too much strife behind the scenes, and now they can establish a better environment going forward.

                            Underrated Solid Trade.
                            Boston gets Charles Oakley.
Chicago gets Walter McCarty, Randy Brown and Joe Forte.

Can you believe McCarty cracked the $3 million barrier this season? Amazing. They should create an expansion team filled with all the mediocre to crappy players that Rick Pitino made rich during his disastrous stint in Boston (either by signing them or bumping up their market value by courting them) Was there a worse judge of talent in the history of the league? I mean, ever?

Anyway, the lone Celtics trade basically amounts to Oakley for Forte, since McCarty's contract expires after the season and Brown is headed for retirement (he has one of those Fred Taylor groins). Oakley doesn't belong on the Bulls; he belongs in the playoff race, playing 20 minutes a game, banging bodies and protecting young guys like Pierce and Antoine.

                            WTF Trade?!
                            Orlando gets Penny Hardaway
Phoenix gets Darrell Armstrong, Bo Outlaw

Ok, so Penny left Orlando like 2 seasons ago in a sign and trade from the Magic because.... Penny was broken down and Phoenix thought they could mend him... And Orlando now thinks, Phoenix mended him, lets bring him back on over $11million a year?! I know Grant Hill is done for the season but what a way to lose the plot. Orlando is heading for one of the worst records in the league, and have some cap space in the offseason, so surely you stay with the Status Quo... Unless there are some secrets within the Magic that are being kept underwraps, this trade just doesn't make sense for them. I mean, who is going to wear #1 now? Penny had a case to eventually have his number retired with the Magic, but now McGrady is wearing it pretty well, another needless problem for the hapless Magic.

On the other hand, Phoenix knew Penny is a shell of his former self, they signed him to a massive 7 year deal in 99 and they cannot believe they have gotten out of it so easily... Armstong and Outlaw are two solid players. Armstrong could start at the point and shift Marbury to Shooting Guard, maybe they could get more out of him that way. Outlaw may even start at Power Forward over Gugliotta who has been steadily decling this season. Phoenix win this trade by a landslide.

Wow, the Jazz bringing in Spree? And trading an unprotected pick in the loaded 2003 draft? Gracious. That's an all-in trade that I don't know I'd make, especially considering Shaq and Kobe are still roaming the conference. Utah is doing right by Stockton and Malone but the franchise may come to regret that trade.

Decent trades for Seattle, who clearly are trying to snatch a good draft pick. Like that Vince has some help in Toronto now ... the East is pretty much wide-open, so the Raptors might just do something.

Orlando makes a seriously questionable move -- unless they're planning to blow it all up and trade McGrady away, I don't see why you take Penny Hardaway and his albatross contract. That's a "I'm definitely tanking the next two seasons" deal and you don't make that deal with McGrady, in his prime, on the roster.

Yep Jazz taking a big risk, but the West isn't as strong as it looks I think. I cannot fathom why they are so low in standings. They didn't seem to have any injuries...

I decided that every trade deadline I would make 5 trades. 3 major shakeups for teams looking to make playoffs, 1 minor and 1 WTF style trade, all the more for the storylines!

Your reaction to the Hardaway trade is exactly what I was looking for!

Found a Bill Simmons article and it suggested a few of these trades, I loved the Raptors one, and at the time that wasn't bad value for Lewis at all, as he is due an extension next season.
