It's relatively recent that they have started offering early release for the "Premium" version of games such as Madden and the consensus seems to be to release the Premium/Deluxe version on a Tuesday and then the standard version three days later on a Friday.

That is backwards.

The Premium/Deluxe version should be released on a Friday and then the standard version should come out on the following Tuesday.

Why? Well my rationale is that most people want to have the game for the weekend to play and it would make more sense to have the better, or more desirable, version to drop on a Friday and then have the lesser version drop on a Tuesday.

What do you guys think, agree? If not, why?

Ok. We can do that, but we would have to wait an extra week. Instead of this Tuesday let's push it until Friday of next week.

It's all relative though, for example this year Madden is coming out weeks earlier, sometimes it comes out a week later.

I agree. Its not an early release if it comes out on a Tuesday. Its just a late release for people who get it Friday.

It's really dumb. Many other games do this as well. It makes a ton more sense to release on a Friday as an early release then a Tuesday which is a traditional release anyway.

Yeah and I mean I get what the other guy above posted in regards to how it all works but right now it seems more like PUNISHING people who want to just get the standard basic version by pushing them out until Friday rather than REWARDING people who pay more to get the deluxe/premium by allowing them to get it the Friday before the standard Tuesday release.

I mean here's the bottom line, Tuesday has ALWAYS been the release day so that should be the regular version day and that should not change. The deluxe/premium should be the Friday before.
If that means moving it out one week later then fine, it's all relative anyways because no one knows release dates until studios set them.

For example with Madden, we should have gotten the HOF edition on Friday August 10th and the standard version on Tuesday August 14th.

Now, I realize that's backing it all up by a few days as opposed to how they did it but that is only because we already right now know the release dates as the 7th and the 10th.

Had they never been announced as the 7th and 10th we'd not feel like they are moving the date out a week, and the 10th and 14th would not be viewed as coming out later. This way folks who pay more could get a Friday release and feel like they got an actual reward and folks who just want the standard version would not feel as if they are being punished for not paying more.

As said above though, no one gets it early when the "early" version is released on a Tuesday, i.e. the date of which had always been the release day.

It just means some folks who get the standard version are just being forced to get it late.

So you're paying $79 or $99 just to get the privilege of... getting it the normal day you always used to have gotten it before they started this "early release" stuff

Paying a premium to get it earlier than the standard edition. Period. Everything else is largely irrelevant.

Odogg you are correct, but personally, I don't mind the wait to get the game at 60% off.

Times change, people want things yesterday and they are paying a higher price for that.

I usually buy the premium/deluxe versions but i know if i bought standard and had to wait until friday I'd not be too happy with not being able to get it on the "normal" release day so...

I definitely see your point about it. Tuesday is the "norm," so why is HOF edition Tuesday and the rest Friday? I get that.

I'm sure it has to do with some market study etc etc, honestly that's probably why it's being released earlier in general than in the past. My bet is they did a market study that obviously showed their biggest gaming crowd is something like 12-22 years old or whatever. Knowing they are off in summer, a release now means they will buy it. There was probably something that showed a late august release, when kids are back in school, resulted in lower sales right off the bat and more discounted purchases later in the year as winter break approached. That's my guess.

Based on this, they said release early August for best sales. They knew they could not make the game, debug, test, debug, and ship all in time from a Friday the 3rd early release and Tuesday the 7th standard. So they pushed it a few days and figured no one would care because it's still earlier than usual.

Of course, this is all theory, but could explain it.

It's actually funny how I'm willing to pay extra to get a game "early". But NOT pay extra for a bundle including a season pass... However, if the season pass just happens to come with getting a game early. So be it.

Thr Crew 2, Far Cry 5 and now Madden 19 all on PC were the games that got me.

I agree with Odogg on this one. I will be getting mine hopefully Friday before the weekend and have all weekend to play.

What I would like to happen though is what they did with madden 25. If you pre-ordered you got 10 hours of early access similar to EA access that Friday regardless of system (ps/Microsoft). I am tired of being penalized for preferring PS4 because of EA's greed. I get PlayStation doesn't want to play ball with EA access but I have supported the game every year just as strongly as xbox users (bought every year since madden 96 for snes). EA thinks they are playing hardball with Sony but all they are really doing is giving the finger to their PS customers.

Yeah I hear you on the PS4 front!!

On a related note I think it'd behoove EA to make it so that if you have EA Access and also preorder the game you get the game unlimited hours instead of 10 hours.

So in the case of this year, we have EA Access tonight (or tomorrow)...let's say you use a few hours and like Madden and decide to preorder it, well once you do you just have it to play unlimited and that 10 hour timer is gone.

I think this would only serve to sell a CRAPLOAD of EA Access subscriptions for at least the month that major sports titles come out. And let's face it, many people who subscribe just keep the subscription going anyways.

EA really should think about doing that.
