How do defense sliders work? (Collision freq. and strength/gather sliders)

    Hi,

Can somebody explain how the DEFENSE category sliders work inside the slider menu?

So, do the USER defense strength, gather and contact frequency sliders improve your the defense against the CPU or is it vice versa?

    Here is my current setup:

USER strength/gather: 100 (<= this should improve my defense against the CPU)
USER inside/driving contact freq: 100 (<= this should improve my defense against the CPU)
CPU strength/gather: 0 (<= this should drive my shooting % up)
CPU inside/driving contact freq: 0 (<= this should make my drives to the basket easier by lessen inside collisions)

All other shooting sliders are at 50.

Resulting shooting percentages by quarter of my last game (User/CPU):
    1q: 52% / 48%
    2q: 24% / 69% !!!
    3q: 22% / 82% !!!!!! (I got outscored 37 to 4)
    4q: 53% / 57%

So, it looks like these sliders have not the effect I was hoping. Do they even work or am I getting it wrong?

I second this question, it always drives me nuts because I know some of the sliders are "backwards" (as in raising, and this is intentionally wrong, raising help d strength to actually lower it or where User is actually CPU etc), but not sure which ones or whether or not it has been changed.

So far I have all on 50 except jump shot contest (gather and release) on 40 for both CPU and User.

This will probably help (I don't think anything has really changed between 2k18 and 2k19) --> forums.operationsports.com/forums/nba-2k-basketball-sliders/842866-shot-defense-strength-sliders-explained-8.html

However, someone recently posted a video about this, and Da_Czar commented that it was backwards and had been fixed.

Just to confuse things a little more....

Cool, do you have a link to the video that explains how the sliders really work?

I think the video is in that post chron275 was mentioning (very first post).

If you follow the link that chron provides, you'll see a VERY good, in-depth explanation by the post's author. It's for a 2k18 I think, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's still valid for 19.

Keep in mind, it's only his thoughts.. But it seems he really did a lot of work and testing, and I'm going to certainly give it a try. His ideas on how the differences between gather and release seem to make a lot of sense.

Not to be petty, but I pointed out that the Jump Shot Defense Strength sliders were reversed at LEAST back in 2K16 if not earlier. Glad he made a video to show it in action though!

I am in the process of setting up a good sliders for myself for the past weeks and have come across these 4 sliders, 2 for jumpshots, 2 for layups, and I am totally agreeing with you that now Da_Czar has fixed the sliders, which they are now different than when the guy posted the video, is opposite now so I am guessing this is fixed? I hope Da_Czar can explain to us again in a more clear way...

But in my own guessing, it does have the word 'against' if you read the descripition of the sliders in the game, so let's say you are on the user's page, the higher you set, means the harder the defense by CPU will play AGAINST you, which is now right, because on HOF, these 4 sliders should be highest and they are, on lower levels they are lowest because the CPU will play LESS good defense AGAINST you, so the key word here is against...

Don't treat it as, the higher you set, the more chance you will stop the CPU from shooting or doing layups, that's wrong....I hope I am right, if anyone can confirm me will be great!
