big win for Geezy, way to dominate from start to finish. It's always nice to end with a bowl win, and one over another P5 opponent is best.

Hopefully it is a good bump to get an extension. I think we are all on on edge here waiting to hear the news, hoping and praying that it is news you are here to stay. I can't wait to find out!

Congratulations my friend on a fantastic exclamation point win to end the season. McBride was just money all season long. I saw the games and saw the numbers but wow just looking at those final statistics is stunning. I know I say it every time but excellent job as always with presentation, the shots you capture are just next level.

Nice win by Notre Dame. I could see them going on a bit of a title run here with their roster and recruiting.

And now we wait...what will happen to Coach Geezy? What will happen to McBride? What will happen to Lawson? I don't think I have ever been so on the edge of my seat for an offseason in recent memory.

And on a perhaps lesser note I will be curious to see what the future holds for Deuce Monroe...his story is too good to let go of.

You truly are the master at this my friend. The level of detail and immersion is just breathtaking. I love this. Can't wait to see what comes next.

Ha...I was talking that noise, but when it came to it, I learned I truly wasn't ready to let go and I must admit that I resorted to cheating the system. This was me after about the 4th or 5th time of re-simulating to the off-season menu to see if I'd get a different result in order to save Geezy's job at Tulane...

            ...I did keep trying though.

I appreciate it, Cheese. This was a fun season and a hell of a ride. I can't say enough just how thoroughly I enjoyed this season. It is amazing how when you find the right player, things just seem to click, and Jimmy McBride was that guy for me. I haven't had a QB season like that in a very long time, and it can mostly be attributed to his skillset rather than my stick skills. The ever-popular Jamie Manning didn't even put up a 4.2 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio in any season.

Notre Dame is definitely not going away any time soon. They will be a force for a long time with the type of recruiting classes they're constantly churning out.

                    Friday, January 8, 2027..

After 17 seasons and multiple championship banners, head coach D. Geezy's tenure at Tulane has come to an end.

Unable to agree to terms on a contract extension, Tulane and longtime head coach D. Geezy to part ways | Lack of recent championship success and "huge gap" between both parties on what Geezy's dollar value is leads to 17th year coaching veteran's departure | School reportedly setting its sights towards promoting offensive coordinator Joe Roberts to assume Geezy's post

                    By Eve Jewell, ESPN.com

Unable to agree to terms on a new contract, and despite a recent vote of confidence from athletic director Ben Weiner, Tulane University and its veteran head coach D. Geezy have decided to part ways, sending shock waves throughout the SEC and the entire college football national landscape. On what is described as a gap of "over $5 million per year," the two sides were unable to agree on fair compensation on a new deal moving forward following the expiration of Geezy's last deal.

Geezy finishes his time at Tulane with an overall record of 181-50 to go along with eight conference titles (2 Conference USA, 6 SEC) and two national titles (2016 and 2018).

As reported almost a year ago, Geezy was seeking a deal in the $15 million per year range, which would pay him in the vicinity of legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban, however Tulane was unwilling to budge on its offer of $9.7 million per year, citing a lack of recent championship success, per sources. The two sides would agree to table contract negotiations until after the 2026 season, but were unable to agree to terms in the days following the conclusion of Tulane's season, which ended last week.

"Geezy has offers from other schools he is weighing and Tulane indicated very early on that it would not get into a bidding war," said a university source speaking on the condition of anonymity. "His last contract signed in 2016 paid him $5 million per year over 10 years, and the school decided that it was not in a position to essentially triple that salary, even though many would say Geezy has been coaching on a discount these past few seasons. The coaching contract market has changed drastically over the past decade and Tulane simply has decided it does not want to pay that much philosophically as a university nor do they want to pay that much for past success."

The school will now reportedly turn its focus on Geezy's replacement, with current Wave offensive coordinator Joe Roberts considered the favorite to land the job. Roberts, who played running back under Geezy from 2011-2014, joined the Green Wave's coaching staff during the 2025 off-season. During the past two seasons, the Green Wave's offense has thrived under Roberts, consistently finishing with high rankings in scoring offense, finishing ranked 5th in the nation last season with an average of 37.0 points per game and 7th in 2025 with 36.2 points per game. Redshirt junior QB Jimmy McBride also turned in one of the top season performances seen by the Wave in recent years, ending the 2026 campaign with 42 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions, the best TD to INT ratio of any passer during Geezy's tenure.

"Roberts is younger, cheaper, and the team's offense thrived under his tutelage the past couple of seasons," said the university source. "They really wanted Geezy back, but they also feel that Roberts could bring better value in terms of bang for the buck and also as far as what his potential cost is compared to Geezy's. They also don't want to see a good, young coach get away.

In what many consider the game that officially put Tulane on the football-map, Geezy guided then true-freshman Jamie Manning and the Green Wave to their first ever national title in 2016.
"It is really a shame that it had to come to this."

During Geezy's time at Tulane, the school's football program has experienced a level of unprecedented success. After winning two Conference USA titles under Geezy, the team's move back to the SEC in 2014 following a 48-year hiatus sparked the Green Wave's upward ascension into the ranks of college football's elite. The team won its first SEC title in 2015 and would go on to win six total Southeastern conference titles over the course of the last 13 seasons, a conference most observers consider to be college football's best. The pinnacle of the team's success came during the 2016-2018 seasons, when the squad made three consecutive BCS National Championship Game appearances, winning the title matchups in 2016 and 2018.

However in recent years, the team has struggled to recapture its championship glory, failing to win another national title over the past near-decade and the team is now five seasons removed from its last SEC title. The team has had 4-loss seasons in three of the past four years, helping to prompt the university's decision to move on from its longtime revered head coach. And finally, as reported last month by ESPN's Brett McMurphy, the Wave's 31-24 loss to Florida in the 2026 SEC Championship Game was likely the last chance Geezy had at proving he would be worth the money for Tulane.

"Obviously today's news is disappointing and heartbreaking for myself, my family, and a lot of our fans. I have said from the outset that I really wanted to be Tulane's head coach forever, but in the end, things just did not work out," said Geezy in a prepared statement shared exclusively with ESPN.com.

"That said, there is a lot to be proud of in my time here. You always hope to leave your program in a better place than they were when you got there, and I certainly believe we have done that here. When I got to Tulane, this was a moribund, perennial losing team, and now 17 years later, we're a 2-time national champion from the SEC with 8 conference title rings and a consistent double-digit win team. I am proud of what we accomplished and thought it would go on forever, but it just wasn't meant to be. In the end though, I wish the program all the luck in the world in the future."

Re: Coach Geezy in the Big Easy: Our City, Our Team | Part II - The Golden Age of Tul

Wow...I am at an absolute loss of words. I mean I guess I always knew it was a possibility but I didn't actually believe it would happen. I am shocked, absolutely mind blown. Huge mistake by Tulane just monumental...but perhaps not that all unrealistic given how college football works these days.... And oh how the storylines abound. I am glad that Coach Geezy is not hanging it up. (Selfishly I would be heartbroken to see this report end after following it for over 6+ years of my life...am I the last original follower standing?).

I have to think LSU is the leading candidate for your services. I cite this for several reasons: it gives you a shot at Tulane every season, the road to a title will be shorter than NC State or ECU, you are familiar with the area...and don't think I didn't notice that not so subtle color change in your fonts. Then again East Carolina also has a nice purple hue to it...ECU is an interesting thought and would be a monumental rebuild for Coach Geezy. Secretly as someone who wants you to go on for the long haul and start the long climb to the top I am pulling for the Pirates. But I think LSU will be the choice. Out of curiosity, how old is Coach G at this point?

Loved to see all the throwbacks to previous legends in the twitter responses, especially Mark Richards who was always a favorite of mine. A little disappointed by Deuce's response. You would hope he would show more maturity but sometimes kids will be kids.

I assume Adam Lawson will bolt for the NFL. It will be interesting to see what McBride chooses to do. And even more interesting still to see what Tulane will do in the long haul.

And here is another thought to chew on...Could we ever see Geezy return to Tulane....

                          Deuce OMG

While I don't exactly agree, the move is certainly defensible for Tulane from a business standpoint, as has been mentioned. A very good comparison is LSU in real life two years ago. No one could've predicted/liked firing Les Miles mid-season after everything he had done for the program (at least I didn't). Especially so if that meant getting a "lesser" replacement in Coach O.. but sometimes these teams need a shot in the arm to wake up again, and look at LSU having an awesome season so far in 2018. If Tulane does indeed hire Roberts, I think they will be just fine in the long term. How awesome for a Geezy player to come full circle like that.

From the standpoint of a fellow chiser, I knew it was going to end like this... you don't simply tease a storyline like that without it happening (Or at least.. most of the time anyway)! Very much looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Coach G.

Lastly, again many congrats on building up the thread and the virtual Tulane squad into the most viewed and beloved 'chise around. You have undoubtedly served as an inspiration for some of my work and certainly many others; that cannot slide by the wayside. All of my best to you in whatever happens from here out, on and/or off of these boards.

That would make for an awesome story line.

I honestly love the fact that they let you go. Of course it would be nice to stay there, but in the end - you didn't meet their goal requirements.

                            Good luck on the decision!

My goodness. I was almost certain that this was going to happen after the SEC title game, but still reading "End of Book II" was pretty crazy to read.

I echo all of Cheeses' thoughts. The natural rebuilder in me -- that's in all of us who start up a dynasty on these games -- wants to pull for ECU. The natural story line is LSU, though, with the reasons Cheese laid out.

Man, bittersweet. Not that this thread or dynasty ever needs it, but this gives a new energy to this report, IMO. Can't wait to see this move forward.

Edit: I know how time consuming documenting a dynasty can be, but I just had this thought: With the NFL tease, what if Geezy does jump to the NFL and this switches to a Madden series?! Then you just run the NCAA series right along side, keep us up to date on the story lines going on there and then follow Geezy in the NFL ranks...
