2020 Offseason (Part 2)

2020 Offseason (Part 2)

THE 2020 NFL DRAFT

With the 2020 Draft officially in the books, here is a look at how the top 10 played out. The first five picks were no surprise, although many expected a QB-needy team to trade up into one of those spots. The Bengals made a move and traded up to the 6th pick to select QB Jake Fromm. The Georgia signal caller finished off his college career by out-dueling Clemson's Kelly Bryant in the National Championship game. With Fromm off the board, many anticipated the Falcons or even the Steelers to make a move soon for Bryant.

Instead, and to the surprise of many, the Buccaneers traded back up (from the 14th pick, which they acquired last year from Miami) and drafted Bryant. Many experts tabbed the Heisman-winning quarterback a top-10 pick, but no one expected it to the the Bucs who took him. Clearly Winston's time in Tampa is coming to an end.

Patriots Pre-draft Trade

TRADE ALERT: The Patriots send a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft for Falcons pass rusher Takk McKinley and a fourth-round pick.

Patriots Draft

Day 1

R1P30 - Traded to Bengals for R2P13 and R6P13.

Day 2

R2P13 - TE Malcolm Kennison, Auburn, 6’6” 265
"On paper he had all the tools to be a first round talent, but had a very inconsistent senior season leaving scouts mixed on him. He has excellent athleticism for his size, outperforming all other TE prospects at the combine. We think he'll fit in well in our system, but he’s got big shoes to fill to replace Gronk."

R2P30 - Trade to Cardinals for R3P10 and R5P10

R3P10 - LB/S Paul Culbreath, Oklahoma, 6’1” 243
“He was a four-year starter at LB for Oklahoma, but he may be a better fit at safety in the NFL. He’s got good speed and vision, but lacks the ability to rush the passer.”

Day 3
R4P28 - OT Javonte Tuten, UCLA, 6’6” 318
“Tutan had an up and down time at UCLA. His senior season was his first time playing at RT. He is a bit of a reach at this spot but could add needed depth at tackle.”

R4P30 - WR Barry Valentine, Georgia Southern, 5’8” 187
“Valentine is a very quick and explosive receiver, but very raw when it comes to running routes. He’ll need to work on this if he wants to make the 53-man roster.”

R5P9 - DE Dallas Zimmerman, Ohio State, 6’6” 287
“The fifth-year senior was buried for most of his time at OSU behind some stellar pass rushers. He put together a solid second half of 2019 and has been rewarded for his hard work.”

R5P10 - OT Khalid Jenkins, LSU, 6’6” 307
“Jenkins, along with earlier pick Tuten, will be fighting for a depth spot in training camp. Jenkins is a decent run blocker who has shown better ability on passing downs.”

R5P30 - RB Gilbert LeBlanc, Liberty, 5’11” 227
“LeBlanc was a bruising running back for Liberty who relied on overpowering smaller linebackers. He’ll have to hit the weights some more if he wants to take on NFL linebackers the same way.”

R6P13 - RB Kevin Hammond, Columbia, 6’2” 237
“We doubled-down on power backs towards the end of the draft. Hammond is slightly bigger than LeBlanc and can lay down the boom just as well.”

R6P30 - CB Donavon Swanson, West Virginia, 6’1” 208
“Swanson is lengthy and athletic, he should be able to find a home on special teams.

R7P30 - S Stuart Street, FIU, 5’10” 204
“He’s athletically gifted by a bit raw fundamentally. A better zone defender than man, he’ll be trying to make the roster as a backup FS.”
