This is how Mike Wang got into the sports gaming industry. It never gets old for me when I hear Mike talk about this.

Mike isn't the only one to get a job in the industry from posting at OS. You never know who's watching...

Make sure to check out the teaser video at IGN, the full video will be available on Wednesday.

Remember live? Money matters but Mike plus any old engine would probably be better than what we get now on both sides. I don't think Mike is some perfect bball catalyst but we've seen what sort of impact he can make.

Yknow take inside drive 04 add some programmers and Mike and you might be surprised haha. All these gms and engines are capable of being more realistic. He left live cuz creative differences or whatever. His 2k money is prol mad more but dude needs to man up and say my way or find someone else. Not like he could not go many other places. He might lose his lavish lifestyle o well. Life of an artist. Be an artist Mike!

Salary pays bills. Mike is good at what he does, but he's not irreplaceable. I'm just saying. To this day, I don't know what EA was doing with Live. They made mistakes after mistakes after mistakes, but their biggest problem is largely due to the current game engine. Live tried to change the game engine overnight, while 2K Sports too baby steps.

He is irreplaceable. They can get someone else but it's not him. Just like u can have Roseanne w o Roseanne or two and a half men without Charlie and it'll still work but it's a step down.

What I meant re live was that he went to live and they improved dramatically. Mike can get a job many places. It's not like he's gonna be out on the street if he doesn't go with 2ks "shareholder tactics", the moment he realized it was negatively impacting the gm he should have been like hode up. I helped build this ish, why are we changing?

                Just my 2c.

Wasnโ€™t it the same for Mike Stauffer as well?? Iโ€™m pretty sure He was a roster maker for last gen on here as well.

EA is in a much better position moving forward though. 2K needs to overhaul their system; they're as far as they can go with what the current tech, from a gameplay perspective. Live has a solid foundation that they can expand upon moving forward, as long as the higher ups don't scrap it.

Live was trying to transition from a super arcade game for casuals into a sim game for basketball lovers and casuals.

but the main issue was the company EA was not putting the right amount of money and resources into LIve during those years you speak of. only recently have they put money into live and the live team. director/producer /head programmer knows when the corporation is not behind your project(s). its when they are not willing to spend a lot of money on it. Thats when its time for you to make an exit. because no matter how good you are or how many great ideas you have. you will never be able to implement them due to a lack of budget/personnel. 2k gave mike a larger team, and a larger budget to play with and more money once it was all said and done.

for 2k its less about the tech of the old system and more about the foundation of the programming in the old system. 2k's physics needs a lot of work. how react or should or should not react to certain things is an issue for 2k not due to old tech. its more due to a programming choice. that says 2k controls the narrative of the game you're playing and its not completely up to you the user.

EA didn't show Wang the money and support, lol. IIRC correctly, that was the issue at the time and why he went back to 2KSports. Does anyone know the reason why he left in the first place? Ironically, I thought NBA Live 10 was a very solid game at the time, and I was playing both games equally. NBA 2K10 still had enough of Mike's touch to weather the storm, but then NBA 2K11 took it to a whole other level.

Historically, that was the second biggest turning point for NBA 2K outside pricing NBA 2K5 at $19.99. I bought NFL 2K5, but EA crushed that pipe dream of NFL 2K becoming a competitive football game quickly, lol.

2k11 being the biggest step is v ironic to me because that could be seen as the beginning of the end. They put mad money into mjing it up. Arguably realizing that there are better investments to sell games than game play. 2k10 got meh ratings but 11 was a huge hit

Not sure why Mike left 2k, we were all surprised, but I played live 10 pvp til 2k13 straight up haha. Got mad run in that game. It's funny people say live ten is better than 19 tho.

2k7 and 2k8 were v good. They did have some exploits like full court passes in 7, and dudes who ran the rockets w Yao and dikembe. Throwing full court to tmac.

8 had that double team rip steal. But I dono college hoops 2k8 was so good. Thats one game where I just could not beat the cpu. Mind you it was like Alabama A&M (before I got em recruits) v Kentucky but in other gms I could take like Zimbabwe and beat team USA.

That was the height of 2k being Sim and v strange to me that Mike left around then, yknow? Getting all conspiratorial haha
