Lexington, KY - Central Michigan defeated Kentucky, which extends their three-game winning streak to four. In the old format, the Chips would now be bowl eligible with six wins. However, the only shot the Chips have at playing in a bowl game is playing in a playoff, which is now confirmed, after gaining an additional three points, on top of the four already gained. With seven points in the table, there is no way any team in Tier 8 will be able to catch the Chippewas, so they have successfully clinched the first promotion playoff in the history of Central Michigan. In addition, they become the first official team to clinch a spot in a playoff in the history of this system, after they defeated the Wildcats, 31-24.
On the first drive, the Chippewas got some yardage up the field but were ultimately forced to punt the ball to the Wildcats. The Wildcats, led by Justin Yancey, scored a 38-yard score on their first drive, which was caught by Chris Morton for the score. The safeties for Central Michigan, Aaron Sharpe and Jason Miller, could be blamed for this score, as both missed tackles on Morton, which, obviously, led to the score. Additionally, Morton was Sharpe's responsibility on coverage.
Nonetheless, Kentucky scored the first points of the game, taking the lead, 7-0. However, the Chips came back on drove the field, taking roughly four minutes to finally end with a Willie Lee rushing score. Lee is a senior for the Chips and, with this said, has had less than 10 touches on the ball all year walking into the game. Although the fourth-string heading into the year, with Brandon Cox out with a suspension, and James Mitchell out with injury, Lee could very well be getting more touches on the ball as, now, the backup halfback of the Chips. At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied, 7-7.
To start the second quarter, J.D. Reed caught an interception to get the ball back to the Chippewas. However, Marcus Jackson and his offense weren't able to get much going on offense and had to punt. The defense then shut down the Kentucky offense, to regain possession in the second quarter. Then, with the Chippewas driving, the Wildcats were able to stop them and force a decision by Chambers on fourth down. Chambers and Wade elected to go for it on fourth, and this ended up giving them a touchdown, after a corner strike to Joe Brown went the distance. The Chips led 14-7 at this point.
After regaining the lead, Central Michigan gave up a huge drive, that got capped off by a rushing touchdown from Michael Greco that tied up the game at 14. With just over a minute to go, Jackson and his offensive crew tried to drive down the field. However, a fumble by the Chippewas was overturned, Jackson threw an interception that gave the Wildcats the ball again. The defense came up big and sacked Yancey twice. Using all three of the remaining timeouts, the Chippewas had one last chance after a punt by the Wildcats. On the first play, with 8 seconds to go, Jackson threw an absolute bomb to Jarvis Dowdell, which brought the Chippewas within field goal range. Jackson spiked the ball with 3 seconds to go, and Tim Webb booted a 40-yard field goal, to give Central Michigan the lead, heading into the half, 17-14.
After giving up a first down on fourth down, the Chippewas allowed the Wildcats to score on the first drive of the third quarter. Looking to regain the lead, Jackson forced the ball, that was headed to Julius Peterson and gave up an interception. However, the defense came up big and stopped Kentucky. On the very first play of the drive, Marquis Harris fumbled the football. However, after further review, the Chippewas were able to retain possession after it was found Harris was down before the ball came out. They drove all the way into the red zone and, with a 4th-and-1 situation, turned the ball over as the fourth quarter was beginning.
With the Wildcats in their own 10-yard line, Defensive Coordinator for the Chippewas, Edgar Miller, sent a blitz that was extremely successful. So successful, in fact, that they were able to score after Justin Crum forced a fumble that was recovered by James Wilcox. The score gave the Chippewas the lead, 24-21, with five minutes left in the game. The very next drive, the Chippewa defense came up big once more, holding the Kentucky offense to a field goal, which tied the game up.
After exchanging punts, the Chippewas were set to punt once more. However, Roderick Williams attempted to throw a ball, but ended up giving it to the Kentucky defense anyways. With wonderful field position, Yancey attempted a long ball down the sidelines, that gave Miller an interception catch on the day. On the very next play, Jackson threw a ball to Garrett Ward on a corner strike play. In double-coverage, somehow, Ward was able to make the catch and ended up taking it to the house for an 85-yard pass with just 40 seconds to go in the game. With the touchdown pass, Jackson broke the program's record for most passing touchdowns in a season, with 28 and counting. Even with a valiant drive, the Kentucky Wildcats came up just short after Richard Lemon ended the game with a sack, at a final score of 31-24.

Update
After this game and a 6-2 record, I have realized that I need to take action and adjust the sliders. Typically, I'd be fine with this type of record, but I really want to make this a rebuilding dynasty. That being said, I have officially clinched a spot in the game that can give me promotion to Tier 7. I am wondering if I should penalize myself, for some odd reason (like an article on the situation and the NCAA announces Central Michigan is not eligible for promotion this year) and prevent myself from being able to be eligible to gain promotion. I'll think it over, so nothing's set in stone, but that's where my head is at the moment. Let me know what you think.
Now, to get back on track. What I was saying was that I have decided to use J-Kits' sliders for the actual game, in addition to the penalty sliders (I may have to adjust those, too, because I haven't been getting the results that I wanted). After I finish the Around the League for both Week 9 and 10, I will adjust those sliders. We'll see how that pans out and if I need to adjust them. Other than that, that's about it. I plan to be getting out the Around the Leagues tonight and probably the Preview for the game against Western Michigan. If there's anything you have questions on, ask and I'll try my best to answer them. Thanks!
