That's the thing, I knew going in that the story and their relationship was supposed to be amazing. It wasn't. Not in my opinion. I thought it was a cheesy half of the time and beyond predictable all of the time. I wouldn't even say my expectations being high were the reason I didn't like it. I knew going in it was a well received game that many said could be the GOAT, but I just feel that the game was average at its very best.

I felt the story in the game was very simple, and the relationship itself wasn't "unique" in any fashion, but the characters were so well portrayed, and I loved the nuances of their interactions--how things like their differing experiences of life (since Ellie grew up post cordyceps, but Joel remembered the old world) conditioned them to process their hopes for life and the relationship in different ways.
