First of all, welcome to the board and thanks for taking the time to reply!

Looking at things as objectively as possible, I think LSU has been the better squad this year, but the team is on the road in a hostile environment, Oklahoma has more to play for, and talent-wise, on paper, the Sooners have a very slight edge if we're going by the letter grade rating. On paper, I see this one as a coin-flip matchup that could go either way, especially considering the Tigers' last outing. Hopefully you're right though and we can prove djp's prediction to be wrong.

This is a huge game for the Sooners who will be looking for the win to become bowl eligible. They have some nice speed on the offensive side of the football so that is something to keep an eye out on. However, there is nothing better than ending another clubs season - so I expect the Tigers to come out swinging and take the ‘W’ leaving Norman disappointed with no post season football.

Norman, OK -- LSU WR Brady Carter Jr. and PK Ross Bryant's careers in Baton Rouge really could not have gotten off to much worse starts. Carter Jr.'s drop on a deep pass in the closing seconds of his team's 28-24 week one loss to Florida St. will not soon be forgotten, while Bryant's five missed place-kicks during the first half of the season, including a missed 21-yard chip shot attempt in the aforementioned loss to the Seminoles, were deeply concerning for LSU's coaching staff and Tigers fans alike. However, now at the tail end of the rookie seasons and when their team needed them to step up, both came up with clutch performances, playing vital roles in the Tigers' 19-10 victory over Oklahoma Saturday in chilly Norman.

Freshman WR Brady Carter Jr.'s 68-yard punt return touchdown was the first punt return score of his career and helped give LSU a 13-0 first half advantage. He also contributed 3 receptions for 58 yards on the day.

While both teams' offenses struggled for most of the contest, it was the play of LSU's special teams that made the difference. Bryant got things started very early when his 30-yard field goal capped off an 11-play 64-yard game-opening drive that lasted four minutes and gave his team a 3-0 first quarter lead. Bryant, who has not missed a single field goal or extra point since week six's 51-50 overtime victory at Kentucky, would later make another first quarter field goal, this one from 31 yards away, giving his team a 6-0 advantage.

After the Tigers' defense forced a second straight three and out by the Sooners' offense, something that was commonplace on Saturday, that's when Carter Jr. stepped up with what was the play of the day. Coming into the game with 34 punt returns for a grand total of just 64 yards (an average of less than 2 yards per return), the 4-star recruit this past off-season from Kentucky finally broke free, returning an Oklahoma punt for a sensational 68-yard touchdown that increased LSU's lead to 13-0 in the second quarter.

"I saw a crease in their coverage and I just cut it back and turned on the jets. I've been itching to finally take a punt to the house; it's about time," said Carter Jr., who also had 3 receptions for a team-high 58 receiving yards on Saturday, giving him 26 receptions for 429 yards and 2 receiving touchdowns this season along with 1 kickoff return touchdown earlier in the year.

Despite being down 13-0 in the second quarter, the Sooners were able to cut the deficit before halftime. QB Tony Brown's 9-yard touchdown pass to WR Jason Huffman made the score 13-7 with under a minute remaining in the half.

Then, following a big sack-fumble recovery by Oklahoma's defense, which ended the day with 7 total sacks, the home team got a 21-yard field goal by PK Tyler Carey to make it a three point game at 13-10 going into the break.

"I was truly disappointed in our pass pro today," said Tigers head coach D. Geezy. "Credit their defensive line, because they have some true ballers up front, but our protection just did not get the job done today and it nearly cost us the lead before half. Thankfully, the defense stepped up and got a stop there to hold them to a field goal."

Three different Oklahoma defensive linemen had a pair of sacks each, including this one by DT Jon Joseph that set the tone for a bad day for LSU's offense literally on the game's very first play from scrimmage.

...and the defense was not done there.

The Sooners offense, which outside of a 110-yard rushing performance by RB John Pennington, was stifled the rest of the way. LSU freshman CB Ryan Carter, the brother of Carter Jr., came away with a big third quarter interception that halted a Sooners drive in LSU territory. Later, Tigers CB Cedric Hutchinson's interception with 6:29 to go in the fourth quarter thwarted yet another Sooners drive with his team clinging on to a 16-10 advantage.

After being stifled themselves for most of the game, the LSU offense finally woke up from its slumber and put together a 10-play 58-yard drive that lasted almost four minutes, and Bryant's 29-yard field goal with 2:32 remaining made the score 19-10, all but sealing the contest. Bryant finished the day a perfect 4 of 4 on field goals, giving him 10 straight successful field goal conversions to close out the regular season.

"I mean, let's just be honest and say it; you can blame it on the cold weather or whatever, but we were absolutely dominated by their defense today," said Geezy. "That said, when the game was on the line, both Rob and (running back) Scottie (Rodgers) stepped up and made big plays to get first downs when we needed them the most and led us to the game-clinching field goal.

"I thought overall we showed a lot of heart today despite not having our best effort. The freshmen Brady and Ross contributed, (defensive coordinator) Charles Kelly's guys were absolutely outstanding all game long, and the offense did what they had to do to grind it out in the end. It wasn't pretty, but we'll take it."

LSU (8-4) will now await its bowl destination, while the loss for Oklahoma (5-7) officially eliminates them from bowl contention for the first time since 1998, halting a bowl streak that lasted nearly 30 years for the Sooners.

It was a beautiful but chilly afternoon in Norman for Saturday's regular season finale, where temperatures dipped into the 30's.




The 5-6 Sooners were hyped up as they prepared to take the field looking to avoid missing out on a bowl game for the first time since the 1998 season.




DT John Joseph talked plenty of trash on Saturday as he and the Oklahoma defensive line punked QB Rob Mason and the LSU offensive line all afternoon long to the tune of 7 sacks.




Senior defensive linemen Lawrence Hicks (#96) and Robert Carrington (#55) were fired up after getting an early stop on Oklahoma's opening possession which set the tone for the day.




With star freshman LB Will McNeal (#99) in his path, Oklahoma punter Nate Gaddis had absolutely no chance of catching WR Brady Carter Jr. as the fastest player on LSU's roster came through big with this 68-yard punt return touchdown which extended his team's lead to 13-0. Carter Jr.'s first career punt return score would be his team's only touchdown of the afternoon.




WR Jason Huffman turned this third down reception into a 9-yard touchdown that cut the Sooners' deficit to 13-7 with less than a minute to go in the first half.




Mason had issues with ball security, putting the ball on the ground 4 times and losing 2, including on this sack-fumble created by Joseph (#99) that was recovered by DE Jared Fitzpatrick (#77) and led to a field goal by Oklahoma as time expired in the first half that made the score 13-10 at the break.




Not to be outdone by his brother Brady, freshman CB Ryan Carter's third quarter interception thwarted a prime scoring opportunity for the Sooners deep in Tigers territory.




Oklahoma RB John Pennington had a solid day, carrying the ball 20 times for 110 yards, but he was unable to get loose and utilize his blazing speed for any of his signature long runs.




Oklahoma DT Kevin Jordan was one of a whopping three Sooners defensive linemen that had a pair of sacks each.




Sophomore nickel CB Cedric Hutchinson's interception with 6:29 remaining allowed LSU to hold onto its six-point lead in the fourth quarter and eventually led to a 10-play drive that put the game away with a field goal.




LSU's defense sacked QB Tony Brown on back-to-back plays late in the game to help preserve its lead, including this one by Carrington with just under two minutes remaining.




Mason turned to celebrate with his teammates after kneeling on the ball one final time to cap off a big win.




Hutchinson and redshirt junior George Bozeman, both elevated into bigger roles due to a season-ending injury to starting CB Christian Darby sustained two weeks ago, celebrated together after a game in which each of them had an interception.




After a tumultuous start to his career in his team's 28-24 opening week loss to Florida St., Carter Jr. redeemed himself big by winning Player of the Game honors on Saturday to cap off his first regular season with the Tigers.

Do you just *never* fair catch it? 2 yards per return seems pretty inexcusable.

Also, what's your field goal process again? I'm trying to figure out how you missed a 21 yard chip shot. Is it something with the controller?

Anyway, good job showing resilience against OU. Excited to see the bowl game rollout.

Geezy! Sorry for disappearing in the heart of your season brother. Just caught up from the leadup to the Bama contest. A couple heartbreakers for you there with Bama and Arkansas sandwiched around a couple nice wins. It seems like winning the turnover battle and being consistent seem to be the name of the game for you when you look at the big difference between those wins and those losses. Mason is always explosive, but the games when he either tries to do too much or doesn't take care of the football seem to be the games that end up in the L column. Not blaming the QB, but with another year of maturity and Geezy tutelage, his senior season could be the year that he puts it all together. Who knows, he could be making a Heisman push while you're looking for a BCS berth if all goes according to plan (not that it ever does)! Good luck in the bowl game, it'll be nice to finish out with a win and get some objectives out of the way in year one.

I am still stunned about what has transpired around the nation...In all my years and seasons of doing this dynasty, I have never seen an upset of the magnitude of Nevada over Bama. I mean, they didn't just upset them; they walked into Tuscaloosa and absoluted hammered those guys. Incredible.

I have no excuses for the poor punt return average. I think my gunner protection this year has been a bit subpar, but I have also made some bad decisions on occasion, sometimes running backwards trying to make something happen. The funny part about this past game, and I could not find a way to fit this into the game story, but I was literally about to replace Carter Jr. with another player back there right before that touchdown return but decided to give him one last shot. Glad I did not make the move.

As for my field goal kicking struggles, I made this post literally over three years ago back in April of 2016 during the Part II installment of this dynasty (crazy to think it was that long ago!), so now is probably a good time to refresh everyone's memory:

So I have figured out what is wrong with my field goal kicking lately - It's not me just getting old and losing my stick skills....It's my joystick itself.

The RIGHT STICK toggle button seems to be slightly bent, which is creating difficulty in consistenly flicking the stick in the direction I want it to go. It has little no effect on other game play; it's just the sudden flick from one direction to another that is handicapped.

Typically, this would be cause to run out and buy a brand new joystick, however I actually LOVE this. I have been searching for YEARS for ways to make field goal kicking more difficult and not automatic and by accident, I have found that solution. My kicker went 22 of 28 last season and also missed 1 extra point, easily making it the worst kicking year of this dynasty through 11+ seasons. And, to start this season, I have missed one field goal and one extra point, and this is with an 84 overall kicker and with the KAC slider turned down to 25.

Field goals are still easily makeable, I just have to have 100% concentration and a strong, precise thumb on each and every one of them. I am very happy with this development and hopefully this continues to add some variety to the dynasty.

Great observations and feedback from you. The one big disappointment this year for me indeed has been the turnovers from the quarterback position. Coming off a year at Tulane in which my QB threw 42 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions, I am shocked that my guy Rob Mason is sitting at 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions heading into the postseason. For our team to get to the next level, we need to get that touchdown number up and that interception # down a tad. A 2 to 1 ratio would be much more tolerable, and getting to that point or better will be one of our top priorities heading into next season.

I agree with everything else you said - we aren't losing a ton of key pieces after this year, especially on offense, and we have some very good defensive recruits coming in next year. The nucleus is certainly there for us to make a run.

As you said, things haven't always gone according to plan, but my gut tells me that we'll see the Tigers make a BIG leap in 2028!
