Grit and Grind 2.0 | Memphis Grizzlies 2k20 MyLeague
Hello everybody and welcome to my new MyLeague story with the Memphis Grizzlies! The reason why I decided to do one is due to the young core of this team and that I haven't done anything like this for some time, so I am going to give it another shot. I hope you all enjoy it!

Rookies take charge as Grizzlies cruise past Miami
Game 1/82
October 23, 2019
Miami, Florida
The first game of the season is always a big one as it is the perfect time for teams and players to leave the fans with a positive first impression. For one team and its rookies, it was a great start.
Both Memphis and Miami struggled in the first quarter, shooting at a low percentage, with neither team getting the edge. However, the second quarter was all Grizzlies, as they found their shooting form and forced the Heat to take very difficult shots.
"We weren't that great in the first quarter, our movement off the ball was slow and we just didn't click. After a few adjustments, we found the spark and after that, the team played comfortably and confidently," said the new head coach Taylor Jenkins after the game.
The two new rookies took over, as Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke combined for 54 points in their very first NBA game. As for the Heat, they were outhustled on every area of the court, with the recently traded-for superstar Jimmy Butler having a poor shooting night, going 9-21 from the field.
Next game, the Grizzlies will play against another young "rebuilding" team, the Chicago Bulls.

Ja Morant shines as Grizzlies take down the Suns
Game 5/82
November 2, 2019
Memphis, Tennessee
The rookie point-guard from Murray State has shown the league very quickly what they have to deal with going forward. Morant finished the with his first NBA double-double, notching 34 points and 10 assists.
"I just feel good when on the floor - the coach and my teammates have trusted me with the ball and obviously when you get more touches, your confidence gets a massive boost. So far so good," commented Morant after the game.
The game was never really out of control for Memphis, as they did well on defense - switching on defence and contesting shots, making it very difficult for Phoenix to get into the groove. They found some hope in the form of DeAndre Ayton, who did well to get at the end of offensive rebounds and second chances.
Furthermore, the bench of Memphis was also a big reason for their victory, as four different players of theirs finished in double-digit points. "It is important to have guys off the bench who can step up when the team needs them the most. Today, we needed the scoring so they delivered," said team-veteran Andre Iguodala after the game.
The Grizzlies will host the Timberwolves in their next game, whilst the Suns will go and try to bounce back against the undefeated Los Angeles Clippers.

Orlando's bigs take care of business
Game 8/82
November 8, 2019
Orlando, Florida
With two teams having quality bigs, it was the Magic who got the upper-hand in this one. The control on the boards allowed them to run in tradition and get easy points.
"It was the plan right from the start. They have some solid defenders, but we knew that if we outhustled them, we were going to make the game easier for us. Also, it helps when guys like Evan [Fournier] and Terrance [Ross] have good nights," said recent all-star Nikola Vucevic after the game. And he wasn't wrong - Terrance Ross had a perfect shooting night (9/9) whilst Fournier managed to score 16 points as well.
The Grizzlies really struggled, as only two of their players showed up to play. Jonas Valanciunas managed to do his part, finishing with 20+ points and rebounds. Meanwhile, the rookie Morant keeps on silencing his critics, ending up with a 33-10-10 statline (and 8 turnovers).
Orlando will hope to use this momentum and take the win against the Pacers in their next game, whilst Memphis will hope to put this one behind and go host the 0-7 Dallas Mavericks.

Block Party by Jackson Jr. secures Memphis the W
Game 13/82
November 17, 2019
Memphis, Tennessee
The Grizzlies have recently struggled with defending the paint and forcing their will on the boards, so with Jokic and the Nuggets coming into the town, and a five-game losing streak, the fans weren't too optimistic. Luckily, things were about to change.
Jaren Jackson Jr. came to play, finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds and most importantly, 6 blocks, with 4 of them coming in the fourth quarter. Furthermore, Valanciunas might have had a quiet night scoring (6 points), but he racked up 18 rebounds on the night. "The gameplan was simple today - protect what is ours. We were really struggling as of recent so we had to give our fans something to be happy about."
Denver did come into this game without their star point guard, Jamal Murray (back spasms), yet his replacement was in full-form, as Monte Morris finished the night with 29 points. Jokic had his usual night, but Denver could never really deal with the bigs of Memphis.
Grizzlies will stay at home to host the Golden State Warriors, whilst Denver will travel back to Colorado to face Harden, Westbrook and the Rockets.

Morant puts the hammer down as the Grizzlies beat Indiana
Game 16/82
November 25, 2019
Indianapolis, Indiana
Ja Morant keeps on silencing teams on his own. The Grizzlies might be struggling, but the fans are happy that a player with such caliber is now their leading star, and he showed it once again against the Pacers.
Morant finished the night with 40 points and 12 assists, with the key contributions coming in the third quarter, as he scored 14 points in that quarter. "He is coming to his own. It always helps if you are getting the ball and being aggressive, but what people don't notice is that he gets everybody else involved. That part of the game goes underlooked. We, and I am sure the fans, are all glad to have him," said coach Jenkins after the game.
Poor shooting from the Pacers was the key for this loss. Considering that they had 20 more shots than the Grizzlies, they could have had control of the game from the start, but they couldn't capitalize their chances.
In their next game, the Grizzlies will go up against the best team in the West, Los Angeles Clippers, whilst the Pacers stay home to host the Jazz.

Re: Grit and Grind 2.0 | Memphis Grizzlies 2k20 MyLeague
I play on Superstar difficulty and 8 minute quarters, but I have 12-minute sim quarters and I have the stats normalized to 12 minutes as well (hence the scores look a bit wild at times).
Next few posts are to sum up this month, what to look forward to and my own thoughts of the first month.Comment
