The Los Angeles Angels "of Anaheim" Commentary Audio.
The Los Angeles Angels as of at least 3 years ago have officially removed the "of Anaheim" from their name. However in the the game, during the pre-game intros as well as some other instances, the Matt V still calls them by the "of Anaheim" name. Hopefully this can be fixed before The Show 20 releases because it's inaccurate and doesn't represent the team's official title of just "Los Angeles Angels".

What do the Los Angeles Angels and lawn furniture have in common? They both fold and end up in the basement after Labor Day!
I personally prefer the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim name, but I also prefer the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
For the Halos, the alliteration has a nice ring to it.

They're not the California Angels anymore? When did this happen? I guess the Florida Marlins will change their name next.
Or Minnesota. Or Texas. Or Colorado. Or Arizona. Did I miss anyone? New York, maybe?OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

Truth be told, it was a pretty stupid way of naming your team. You can't fault people for making fun of the owner for doing that.est 1978

I dunno. You cant fault him for not wanting anyone to confuse his team with the Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

I'm surprised Al Davis didnt think of this first before he passed, with Los Angeles Raiders of Oakland. Its still not too late for his son to name them Las Vegas Raiders of Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose and Upper Mexico.OSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

I'm not faulting anyone. Make fun of it all you want. I think it's a stupid name too. Doesn't mean the same exact joke that's been made over and over for the last decade and a half doesn't get a little stale after a while. I'd love to hear a new joke about the name.Last edited by breakfastcat; 10-30-2019, 02:49 PM.Comment

Anaheim isn't a suburb of Los Angeles it is its city. I understand the name change from a marketing standpoint..however since they do play in Anaheim and not directly in Los Angeles then they need to go back to the Anaheim Angels.
Anaheim is 27 MILES SOUTH of Los Angeles. not maybe not even the same area code. no, no they are not. which really builds my argument on this. in this day and age. .. no team has any claim to being a state team. unless of course, you are the first team to have a professional team in said state.
once you have more than one team in that state, your name needs to reflect
whatever city that teams resides in.
imagine if you will...
the south bay san Francisco Giants of San Francisco.
or...
the east bay Oakland Athletics of Oakland...

Arlington Rangers? doesn't work as well as Texas Rangers. if they were to go by Arlington or Dallas I think they'd need to change the Rangers part as well. I think Texas Rangers would have to be the exception to the rule.Originally posted by mlblover15...no team has any claim to being a state team. unless of course, you are the first team to have a professional team in said state.

Technically Anaheim is a part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. They share the same media market. There are parts of LA county that are further from downtown LA than Angel Stadium. I don't personally like the name but it's not as egregious as people make it out to be. There are plenty of sports teams that have a similar situation. For example the San Francisco 49ers play 30 miles from San Francisco in Santa Clara. The Braves play in Cobb county.Anaheim isn't a suburb of Los Angeles it is its city. It's not necessarily egregious. It was just an odd way to rename your team....which is why people would say The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Orange County of California of the United States of America of North America in jest.est 1978

I was more referring to the Los Angeles part of the name, not the "of Anaheim". I think everyone agrees that having two different cities in the name is silly.Comment

Have no idea what was wrong with the name Anaheim Angels. They used that name from 1997-2004 and there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it. Nobody confused them with the Dodgers or any other crap.
What was wrong with the name California Angels that they used for nearly 30 years or so?Atlanta Braves
