The problem with that skip pass mechanic ever since it was introduced a couple 2Ks ago is that those passes don't come out of your hand right away there's around a full second of input delay from the moment you hold down the pass button to the moment the ball leaves your hand, and that added delay usually gives the defense enough time to recover and get a closeout/steal/deflection while you're "charging up" one of those skip passes to an open teammate.
Throwing a skip pass with that mechanic as it's currently designed feels like throwing a Sonic Boom with Guile in Street Fighter.
