    Three Copies Of APF Freezing

Had to rebuy the game, and the first one froze when trying to do anything past the menu. Couldn't load into a game or pracrice after picking a team. The music stops at the menu also. Bought another copy, same thing. Another copy, same thing. Before I pay $85 for a brand new copy to test it, cans omeone tell me what might be going on? Im playing with default rosters and settings

I’m not sure what might be going on, what system do you play on. You also might want to check GameStop website too to see if they have any copies near you, on 360 it’s $5 and PS3 $3.

Re: Three Copies Of APF Freezing

If you're on PS3, try and rebuild the system database. Google will be your friend on how to do that, but I think it's done by powering it up in Safe Mode. If this is on 360, I'm not quite sure how that's done or if there is a similar thing that might occur for it. But if it's on PS3, I can all but guarantee this will resolve your freezing issue.

EDIT: According to a three-year-old thread you created on College Hoops 2K freezing on you, I'm going to assume that not only you are playing it on PS3, but that this database rebuilding thing was a long time coming for you. Here are both video and text instructions on how to do it.

This does not delete game saves. Another question I get is how long does it take. Only about 2 – 5 minutes. For more FAQ’s check the bottom of this post. This is a good thing to do from time to time…

Keep this in mind when you try this (there is a FAQ on the bottom of the article):

Question: What do I lose from doing this?
Answer: It will remove messages received and sent. Any playlists you have set up. If you organize your games/videos/music/photos into albums or as I like to call them “folders” you will have to set that up again.

I believe you also want to sync trophies up before doing this as well. Even though the article says this is safe, I seem to remember this being an issue before. Maybe PlayStation automatically syncs them today though, because I'm talking about an issue I had circa 2010.

If you're able, please follow up with me on whether this works.

Wow thank you so much for trying to help me here. Believe it or not, this is actually an issue i'm having on 360. I think the similarity of the issues is simply because its an issue 2k Sports had with their games in that year (CH2k8, APF 2k8, MLB 2k8, etc...)

So in case anyone can help

I'm on an XBOX 360 that is working well for all other games. I tried playing off disc, I tried installing disc, I tried removing all saves, etc.

I will absolutely do that on my PS3 and maybe itll fix college hoops though

Bought another one. Shrink Wrapped new copy. Still froze. I'm dumbfounded.

            Clearly, it's not the disc.

Still try the rebuild database method for the PS3. Don't know if Xbox 360 has some equivalent within its safe mode, unless it doesn't have one.

Are you playing while disconnected from the internet? If not I'd suggest doing so - the game trying to connect to servers that likely no longer exist can cause lots of stability issues even if you're trying to play offline.

I have a 360 and I had the same issue. I was going to say install it from the disc. But you said you did that already. I do feel this may not be a disc issue. I would recommend taking apart you 360 and clean it well. I ended up buying another 360 on craigslist and cleaned them both. Good luck man, keep fighting for this game. It was worth it for me to purchase another 360 as a backup. Also you're not alone, I have 5 copies across PS3/360

I'm on a Jtaged system which is fully loaded, do you think it has anything to do with it? No other games give an issue, but at this point it must be something. It makes replacing it an issue since the system itself cost over $500 originally. I want it to work on THIS console, if possible.

Way to bury the lead. I'm sure that has something to do with it.

On another note, have you yet tried your College Hoops 2K disc after rebuilding the database on your PS3? Or is that Jtagged as well? Haha.

It's probably your save files, have you deleted all of them from the console?

No no not my intention lol. I m just saying that Jtag or not though, with every single other game working no issue, why would only APF suddenly not work? I've never heard of any reported issues with APF on modded consoles, and especially since so many of the editors and hex have been developed running it from modded consoles, i'm sure we would have.

For anyone still trying to crack this code

                          I've deleted all saves

i've tried guest, and various profiles.

the system is not connected to xbox live

                          I've tried installing to disc

                          I've tried playing off disc

                          I've tried booting from DashLaunch

I've tried booting from regular xbox 360 dash

It all seems to come down to navigating the menus. I can stay in the first meny after pressing start for hours. However if I advance from there into practice, play game, play season, etc. the music stops, and everything freezes. I can edit sliders and options. When I go to 2k beats and change songs, it triggers automatic freeze.

Not to jinx it, but college hoops has worked on PS3 after a handful of plays thank you. This APF on XBOX 360 issue is another thing entirely

So what I'm going to say isn't really going to help you, but I've had two nefarious freezes from 2K games in the past that couldn't be skirted as a result of... something. One of them was World Series Baseball 2K3 on PlayStation 2 (here is the very old thread on it, under my previous handle), and the other was from ESPN NFL 2K5 on Xbox (here is my thread on that).

I was able to fix the ESPN NFL 2K5 freeze, as the thread was resolved during that time frame, but I never did figure out the WSB 2K3 one. I have a feeling that it was somehow tied to in-game rosters, though. After all, the football game had that issue.

Not to say yours has those issues since you deleted all saves, but either your Xbox is trying to access a corrupt memory file of some sort, or the laser is misreading the game once you hit that moment. Whatever they are, the next bet honestly is to try a new Xbox. I don't know what else after that.

I'm very sorry to hear all of this, though. Really, I truly am.
