This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
All this dude did was play off me and play the passing lanes. He was NOT 2-way. He was a SHARPSHOOTER. Probably has Interceptor Bronze at best. But this is ALL the "elite" players do.

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
He finished with 6 steals btw. Probably would have had more if he was a defensive archetype. He literally sits between the ball and his man and SPAMS steal with NO consequence. I think we had something like 30 turn overs as a team because they ALL did this. I just captured mine because my man did NOTHING all game except this crap.Comment

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
Getting 30 turnovers seems like good defense and horrible offense tbh.
Why would they do anything else when just this is good enough?
What would be your solution?
You want passes to go through players?
Your first picture is a horrible pass that should be a TO.
2nd and 3rd picture seems like a very ill advised pass as well tbh.
Does not look like an icon pass which would have made it way harder to get intercepted.
4th and 5th picture looked like a good pass and a wide open shot or at least semi contested shot.
6th and 7th picture look like good defense since the ball is at 1 corner and you are at the other corner.
The pass is already ill advised and judging by the trajectory its not a high enough to make it impossible to be intercepted.
With needle threader and icon passing you could get away with some of these against non defending builds if you have decent enough passing yourself tbh
Wondering but have you guys considerd that everyone has eyes in the back of their head since eveyone is watching everything happen in 3rd person?
You dont have to look at the passer nor have your eyes on the man you are marking to play the passing lane or react to passes being made.
In real life if you dont see the passer you wont see the pass.
Same with the man you are marking.
If you have your back towards him you can loose him.
In a 3rd person view in a video game these things dont apply.
Its pretty much impossible to offer a 3rd person view with 1st person limitations.Last edited by tru11; 03-04-2020, 06:42 AM.Comment

In the very first picture, the PG came too deep in the paint, then tried to pass out to the corner where it COULD be easily intercepted. If it was me, I would have shot the open mid-range or used a euro-step to force the big to foul me or jump too soon for the block which would left the big open for an uncontested layup/dunk.
2nd picture...without knowing if the offensive player was forced to pick up the ball, I'm going to assume he still have a live ball. I would use a triple threat move to make the defense react. More than likely, I would use the screen. If my teammates are good, the screener should swing to the other wing, and more than likely they would switch on the matchup. My build is pretty quick, so I'm going to be approaching your defender quickly. He's either going step up to try to prevent me from rounding the corner, or he might follow you into the deep corner. My gut instinct with the current meta...they can't resist a double team, so I'll just a backward dribble move to "bait" them into the double team attempt and hit you in the corner for the easy 3. DAMN...just looked at picture 3 while typing my response. Naw...your PG made a stupid pass.
I don't see any problems with Pictures 4 and 5. Either you can shoot the shot or make an extra pass for the corner 3.Comment

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
Another bad pass. Passes from the corner and across the paint is begging to be stolen. Just the legacy issue of bigs getting one-handed steals in the paint should have made that an ill-advised pass from the jump.
Personally, I would just taken the baseline drive and went for the reverse layup.
I dunno...I see examples of bad/rushed passes and the offense not being aware of where the defenders are at on the floor. If your team was making these type of passes for the entire game, I'm not shocked that they had 30 turnovers.Last edited by ksuttonjr76; 03-04-2020, 11:03 AM.Comment

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
although i agree that those were bad passes, but passing lane steals are way too easy, it doesn’t help that 2k’s court design is too small so it’s easy for people to recover on defense too easy. they can sag all the way off of their man and still recover in time to get a passing lane steal, 2k’s steal mechanics makes it easy, if someone wants to keep spamming there needs to be SOME KIND of penalty. that’s why playing zone is the go to game plan for all these trash a** pro am teams.Comment

Let's take the pass from the corner to wing where the paint defender tipped the pass. What should have happened there? How about the pass from near half-court to the wing? What should have happened there? Like tru11 mentioned in post, we do have the advantage of 3rd person view on defense AND offense, but people are expecting 1st person limitations.
I'm not saying I'm some type of God when it comes to passing, but I avoid those steals by merely slowing down and observing where the defenders are at on the floor. My opponents do the same thing in Play Now Online. Ironically, most of my turnovers are from...
- AI/Human teammate cutting at the wrong time, and I throw the pass right into the defense.
- Alley-oop plays.
- When I'm rounding the corner on a screen, and somehow my player will dribble the ball off the foot of a reaching defender. Honestly, this turnover infuriates me more than passing lane steals, because I think it's a kickball everytime.
When I'm not handling the PG duties and playing the off-guard, the most common thing that I see is people turboing down the court as soon as they get ball. Everyone and their momma have equipped the First Step badge, but they use it right way just trying to get to the half-court. The badge (when used properly) really helps in breaking down the zone defense and making it collapse. As a result of not being able to use the badge for a short while, they find themselves not able to breakdown the defense without using screens which then results in less passing opportunities due to 2-3 players trying to brick wall one player, but allowing the other 4 defenders to cheat the lanes on the remaining two threats.
The defense is OP in the passing lanes, because the offense puts them in position to be OP.Comment

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
How is it a bad pass when my defender plays the ENTIRE GAME 10 feet off me? HE'S NOT GUARDING ME! He's ONLY worried about the passing lanes. When have you EVER seen this strategy in ANY level of real basketball be effective? Even Giannis doesn't back off his man into the PAINT to guard the corner! If he's playing off daring me to shoot and i keep laying bricks so he can double another shooter, fine. If he's playing off me to play the paint, fine. But literally doing NOTHING but playing the passing lane?
Y'all crazy.Comment

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
I get what the OP is talking about, tbh. Sure, there are bad passes in the game and are probably present in the OP's game, but there are times where the warped steals make the game unplayable. This was a huge problem in 2K18, not so much in 20 IMO, but I get OP's frustration.Comment

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
BUT IN 2K THE DEFENDER DOESN'T HAVE TO TIME IT. HE CAN SPAM WITHOUT CONSEQUENCE TILL THE BALL MAGICALLY GOES TO HIS HAND.
There's ZERO consequence to bad timing. Plus, the margin for error is WAY too big. This should be an ELITE defensive play if done correctly. Not by Kyle freaking Korver.
What are you arguing here?Comment

Re: This is NOT playing defense. Stop it 2k.
Remember what i always whine about. playing vs the user + 2k's cpu. I HATE IT. i log online and go into the rec, pro am to go mano y mano. man vs man. not man vs 2k cpu badges + man.
Stop helping these dudes. make them play real defense. these defensive badges are way to op. the passing lane tips and steals are silly. they dont work a lot of times when you have great position and time it perfectly. but they do work when you just sit remotely in the area of a pass and spam Right trigger + steal so your guy can Lunge 30 feet across the court to tip or steal a pass. as you've said op, STOP IT.
its the same story with the intimidator badge and the pogo stick. again STOP IT. guys not even trying on defense just let the game work its magic to help you blow layups. Awful.
if i wanted to play vs cpu glicth nonsense, i would stay playing my career vs getting online vs others.Comment
