Did I miss you saying you created Shippensburg too as an opponent? Just curious since they're D2. Either way, the first win is the one that keeps you coming back for more...congrats!My Newport Falcons Football Dynasty (Teambuilder) (CFB25)

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
Yessir! I had a feeling Pete was going to break one there. His icon was pulsating and my blockers had done a good job earlier sealing the sideline on earlier returns, and sure enough they created a huge lane for him to run through.
Thanks!
I ended up just assigning I-AA East as Shippensburg for reporting purposes - the colors matched the best and they were the lowest rated FCS team in the game, with ratings that nearly matched CMU. Knew that this was my best chance at a win, and I'm glad I was able to get it - and in thrilling fashion too!Comment

Get The F*** in there, a first win for the program! Although the four interceptions and no passing touchdowns are horrible, the rushing game was a plus and well it's your first WIN!!!!Comment

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
I'll take it however I can get it! Riley was awesome, really offset the ineptitude of my quarterbacks. I'd probably be losing every game by 30-40 points if I didn't have him, honestly.Comment

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
by Jeff Greenberg, Carnegie Mellon insider for Rivals.com
Manning, Matt Johnson commit to CMUCarnegie Mellon has its first commits of a new era.
After making their official visits this past Saturday in the Tartans’ thrilling 27-24 win against Shippensburg, three-star runningback Jim Manning (Reisterstown, Md.) and outside linebacker Matt Johnson (Circleville, Ohio) have given verbal commits to sign with Carnegie Mellon, Tartan Tidbits has learned.
“I just love that it’s only four hours away so that my family can come up every home game,” said Manning over the phone. “Their academic reputation is well-regarded, and I believe in what Coach (John) Elliott is building there. I’m excited to be a Tartan.”
“It’s exciting being a big part of their rise as a Division I program,” said Johnson in a phone interview. “It’s going to be awesome being able to look back at my time there in 15 or so years, see Carnegie Mellon on ESPN, and say that I helped build that.”
Johnson, a six-foot-three, 232-pound linebacker from Circleville High School, is likely a starter as a freshman and has compiled 78 tackles, nine sacks, and three interceptions this season.
Manning, a six-foot-one, 190-pound runningback from Franklin High School, will see significant time behind current junior Robert Riley next season. He has rushed for 1,504 yards and 20 touchdowns in his senior year.
Fitch, Michael Johnson set official visitsThree-star offensive linemen Matt Fitch (Sylvania, Ohio) and Michael Johnson (Dayton, Ohio) will make official visits to Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, November 25 when the Tartans host Richmond, Tartan Tidbits understands.
Fitch, a six-foot, 296-pound guard for Northview High School, has CMU and Ohio State as his top two, with Notre Dame trailing both.
Johnson, a six-foot-seven, 320-pound tackle for Jefferson Township High School, currently list the Tartans as a slight leader for his services, with Ohio State and Michigan trailing.Last edited by Careless Whisper; 05-12-2020, 08:58 AM.Comment

Season 1, Game 10: Carnegie Mellon at Princeton
Tartans Collapse Late, Fall at Princeton in Overtime
CMU missed a game-winning field goal attempt in the fourth quarter, and threw an interception in overtime
by Alicia Brown, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reporter
PRINCETON, N.J. -- College football is filled with its highs and lows. Just ask Carnegie Mellon.
One week after celebrating a thrilling 27-24 victory over Shippensburg, the Tartans saw a 10-3 lead vanish in the fourth quarter, ultimately falling to Princeton in overtime, 17-10, after a couple late-game mistakes.
Carnegie Mellon (1-9) seemingly was in line for its first victory over a FCS opponent, but Justin Thompson pushed a 35-yard field goal attempt left as regulation expired, and then Alex Smith threw an interception in overtime after Princeton (3-7) scored on its first possession.
“I just hate it for my guys,” said first-year head coach John Elliott. “We were so close, but it’s hard to win games at this level when you haven’t had much of a taste of winning. We’re improving for sure though, as much as this hurts.”
A defensive battle saw a 3-3 deadlock midway through the third quarter before sophomore tailback David Jordan scored from two yards out to give the Tartans a 10-3 lead. Jeff Terrell answered for the Tigers with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Brian Shields, and after Thompson’s miss to end the fourth quarter, the hosts netted a pair of first downs before Cleo Kirkland punched it in from three yards out to make it 17-10 in overtime.
Smith, who finished with 134 yards through the air on 18 of 32 attempts, managed to find Kurt Thompson for a first down before throwing a game-ending interception to Doori Song.
CMU saw its top two runningbacks leave the game due to injuries. Robert Riley felt after the first quarter with a hip bruise and should be good to go next week, while Tramon McCollum suffered a hand injury and could miss multiple weeks. Jordan finished with 22 carries for 73 yards and the aforementioned touchdown in relief.
Thompson missed three field goals in total and has made just 7-of-19 attempts this season.
Carnegie Mellon finishes up its road slate next Saturday at Stephen F. Austin.

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
That is a gut-wrenching way to lose a game you were winning heading into the final quarter.
Those two injuries really could have made this an even sour way to end the season but thankfully it seems Riley will be good to go next way, although based on David Jordan's stats he doesn't seem to bad as a second back?Comment

Thankfully Riley is good to go for next week, but Jordan will be elevated to RB2. He's not as good as Tramon McCollum, but when your backups all sit in the 40s, it doesn't really matter.Comment

by Jeff Greenberg, Carnegie Mellon insider for Rivals.com
McCollum out for seasonSophomore tailback Tramon McCollum, who has served as the main backup to junior Robert Riley this season, will miss the final two games of the season after he suffered a broken hand in Carnegie Mellon’s 17-10 overtime loss at Princeton.
McCollum finishes his sophomore campaign with 192 yards and a touchdown on 42 carries. Classmate David Jordan, who ran for 73 yards and a score on 22 attempts against the Tigers last Saturday, will serve as Riley’s backup.
Cooper returns from suspensionSophomore cornerback Raymond Cooper will return to the starting lineup this Saturday at Stephen F. Austin after serving a three-game suspension for violation of team rules, Tartan Tidbits has learned.
Cooper missed the games against Furman, Shippensburg, and Princeton while suspended for reportedly forging a signature. The sophomore entered the season as CMU’s top corner and has 19 tackles, three interceptions, and a force fumble in seven contests this year.Last edited by Careless Whisper; 05-12-2020, 08:58 AM.Comment

Season 1, Game 11: Carnegie Mellon at Stephen F. Austin
Late Pick Foils CMU’s Comeback Hopes at Stephen F. Austin
Alex Smith was intercepted in the red zone of Carnegie Mellon’s final drive, dropping the Tartans to 1-10
by Jayson Thomas, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter
NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Carnegie Mellon had another opportunity to pick up its first win against a FCS school, but an interception on its final drive spoiled its comeback attempt, as the Tartans fell to Stephen F. Austin earlier this afternoon, 13-7.
Alex Smith tossed his second pick of the game with 34 seconds remaining as Carnegie Mellon (1-10) faced a third and six on the Stephen F. Austin (5-6) 19-yard line. The true freshman finished with 94 yards and a touchdown on 14-of-29 passing, as the Tartans compiled 221 yards of total offense.
“There’s clear improvement I feel,” said first-year head coach John Elliott. “I think if this game was on the second or third week, we lose by 20 or so points. We just can’t finish the job yet.”
Sophomore tailback David Jordan carried the ball 17 times for 78 yards after Robert Riley left prematurely with an injury for the second straight week. Riley’s injury isn’t believed to be serious, and he’s expected to be available for next Saturday’s season finale against Richmond.
The Lumberjacks netted two Cory Long field goals and a Louie Runnels six-yard touchdown to take a 13-0 lead into the halftime break. The Tartans scored on their opening second-half possession when Smith found freshman Kurt Thompson for a 17-yard score, but both teams then went quiet until the visitors’ final drive.
Carnegie Mellon finishes its inaugural season of FCS competition on Saturday, November 25 at 8:00 p.m. against Richmond.
