Hello everyone! Don't know if any will recognize me, but I used to be a well known slider maker back in the day. I've been playing a lot of NHL 2K8 lately, and since there seems to be some demand for my sliders, I'd thought I would share them here if anyone wants them.

Keep in mind, these are just a BASE for the sliders, you can go ahead and edit where you think it makes the game harder or easier for you.

Updates: Added Controller Options and tweaked the gameplay a little to make goalies have more save animations while not being too OP.

Update 2: Tweaked the Offensive Skill slider and adjusted some of the other sliders to compensate. Should see more AI cycling this time. Playing really good defense is the key to keeping the shot count down. Goalies had to be toned down a bit as there were too many 0-0 games in my tests.

Thank you. I plan on releasing 2K10 sliders soon, as it were. Thanks to Tougie24 there seems to be a resurgence for old 2K Hockey games lately, so might as well! I'm having issues with game speed and general AI behavior (something you can actually change to a degree in 2K's game), but as soon as I have those ironed out they should be good to go.

Not sure who Tougie24 is unless he has a different name here but I feel that it should be mentioned that the 2K8 and 2K10 parts of OS (in addition to several other years) would not be in any way what they are today without snowdrift, WWEDX2007, austrianredwing, molifox, nikethebike, and a few others over the past 3 years.
Have a look at how far rosters have come across the NHL2K library over that time in our Roster Updates thread. It's really impressive. It's definitely up there with many other classic game communities.

I'm glad the 2K community has remained over the years. It's a shame we'll never get rewarded with another NHL title.

Tougie24 is a Streamer/Youtuber who's recently been playing NHL 2K10 (he's also an EA Gamechanger). He's recently promoted the 2021 Roster update by Rangers9911 on his stream which he'll be trying out. You should check out his NHL 2K10 series either on twitch or youtube. You'd like!

Hi Venom might be worth us having a chat sometime I am working on a mod for NHL 2K10... love to here some ideas on what could be improved gameplay wise. I'll give your 2K8 sliders a bash but if I'm honest I think I prefer 2K10 and 2K11 maybe your sliders will change my mind

Sure thing. Been dealing with some health issues these past few years and just found out about a month and a half ago that they're due to me having a tumor in my head. It's nothing dangerous at the moment, but until I can get it looked at and removed, I'm afraid I can't do anything more strenuous than share these sliders which people have been asking me for for a while.

I've been trying to stream on the reg for over a year and a half now and that's about when the health problems started to interfere with my regular life. But now that the doctors are in the know, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

If I'm capable, I'd love to help as long as it isn't too time consuming or requires too much concentration from me. I'm sure you understand.

These sliders are good played a few games last night unfortunately nothing can fix the lack of puck movement and cycling by the AI :-(

I really wanted to like 2K8 it has so much content and deep franchise but I have to say 2K10 and 2K11 are just better.

Do the team strats do anything to change the game style by the AI?

Oh he's still around. I don't think he posts much, but he's just mentioned OS a bunch of times on his stream and he's started using Ranger9911's updated 2021 rosters for 2K10.

As for DJNeo, his work is completely different and though he does deserve some praise for mentioning 2K's hockey games, I don't see what it has to do with my sliders or the game in general. Tougie24 is actually playing 2K10 and might play 2K8 as is and he's gotten many people from his stream to actually go out and buy the games proper. Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but if anything HE should be mentioning ME as I came up with these sliders before he even started dreaming of his 2KHS project, back when the game originally came out. LOL.

Lastly, DJNeo got banned, so... Not much use in putting up his name when he can't really reply, which is sad. Anyone know the story there?

Two things I found out when playing 2K8 again; #1 you can't play it like an EA game where you chase the puck around mashing poke check and trying to hit everything. The AI are much more aggressive on getting to the shooting lanes and taking shots when they have them. Playing positional (What the EA crowd wrongfully call Skillzoning) and taking away shooting lanes will force the AI to pass more. #2 playing a quick game is different than playing a Franchise game. I guess because in Franchise Stamina and Fatigue play a role while it really doesn't during a quick game.

The one place where 2K10 has an advantage is that it actually has a Passing Tendency slider, but often I find it artificially forces the AI to pass when it has a scoring chance so there's that caveat you have to work with.

Neither game is perfect and there are things each does that the other doesn't. But again, for me it's just a matter of the goaltending is loads better in 2K8. I also like the stick handling in 2K8 over 2K10's. But the skating engine is better in 2K10 and you can still add custom music via network while you can't anymore in 2K8.

So it's a pick your poison situation.

While true, custom music works way better in 2K8. For example you can put updated goal horns in 2K8 but in 2K9/2K10 you are forced to have the in-game horns followed by whatever custom music you chose. This especially sucks for Canucks fans like me because 2K never updated their goal horn to the current one. Even 2K11 still uses the 2007-08 horn instead of the new one installed in 2008-09.
