New-ish episode of Detail honoring Kobe was on espn Sunday night. Pau broke down the 61 PT game at MSG in 2009 and Phil broke down their Game 5 vs Phoenix in the 2010 WCF.

I know this is more triangle related, but does triangle and the 1-4 offense go together a good bit? Trying to replicate the Stockton/Malone offense

Are you talking about using the Triangle freelance and 1-4 set plays?

Check out the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA running the Triangle Offense - Secondary Break ("Attack, Storm, Flow")

            <iframe width="892" height="502" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/f_dDZIPsKBM?" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

They're not the only ones running this. I actually had been running the offense with a team in MyWNBA franchise back in Nov and Dec. In 2K, the WNBA players have a higher system proficiency rating for the Triangle than most current NBA players since they still have bigs with decent postup tendencies to go with high IQ and defensive consistency ratings. They also have real power forwards with size and skill (think 00’s WC with Duncan, Garnett, Dirk, etc).

Former Detroit Piston Bill Laimbeer is the HC for the Aces so he’s obviously been beaten by the offense before with a little help from MJ and Scottie. IRL they have a few half court sets that are based on triangle principles and spacing as well. One of them (named Chicago) combines the sideline triangle look with Iverson Cut actions. It causes a bunch of misdirection. (https://team.fastmodelsports.com/201...t-3-pinch-post)

Idk how much this moves the needle getting this early offense back in at least for next gen but at least there is evidence that teams are still using it.

Just need to warn you guys that the triangle is a FRUSTRATING freelance next-gen, & has a few key flaws that just make it annoying at times.

1st, the low post entry triggers an automatic scissors action around the C. This was an alternate option, but not the primary back door option the corner man would run. This option is literally worthless in trying to get either scissor cutter open. You end up having to awkwardly wait about 8 seconds before the pinch player is screened to get free'd up for an open mid range shot.

2nd, the top of the key entry is massively flawed by two things: First, the inability to make Y cuts on next gen absolutely ruined the pinch post option. The hand-off feature is not fluid at all and you'll get stuck with the ball more often than not. Secondly, the strong side wing screening for the corner man gets called for an illegal screen FAR too often!

3rd, the pinch post hardly ever flashes to initiate the blind pig / backdoor top option, which was a very popular action in the real life triangle.

4th, the pinch player does NOT screen the banana cut player cutting down & across to the weakside corner from the wing like he's supposed to. It makes the corner PnR option frustrating to run because of the lack of spacing.

As someone who has a general knowledge of this freelance, I should be able to DOMINATE as opposed to someone playing street ball. That just isn't the case though.

The Triangle freelance in Next Gen is just a shell of old code. I think I mentioned that before. The optimism I have for it in the future has to do with overall player movement. There aren’t even any of the pressure releases built in. We’ll just have to wait and hope.

                  Mamba Monday

It’s the little things about this offense that helps win you games. This is a good example of the weakside action running the guard quickie from the UCLA high post series. Ive been missing this since 2K12

I sent DaCzar a message on Twitter about next gen but I think everyone following this thread to put in a ticket with 2ksupport.

Just started playing 22 on next gen. A few observations:

                      1. The system still reads the triangle freelance as a 4-out 1-in offense instead of 3-out 2-in. I believe that is why we see the other big not involved in screen and roll situations leave the weakside post and go out to the 3pt line.

                      2. Flow is smoother but cuts (particularly the speed cut from the corner when the ball hits the post man) are not there.

                      3. Pressure releases still are not there and cannot be activated using the motion button option in the favorite play screen

                      4. The action after the two pass to the top still dies without give the players involved in the 2-man game the option to run counter pick and roll.

                      5. We did get new low post play added though I think it should be listed as a guard post play instead.

Everyone PLEASE put in a ticket for at least the first bullet point once you get the game.

Do u mean 4-1 is shown instead of Triangle for the classic bulls team?

I think most teams start default on a 4-1 style freelance or WNBA 3 out but that’s not what I’m referring to. I am saying that the system reads the triangle freelance as a 4-1 style freelance itself. So plays like Fist 24 Top TRI break when the big in the post decides he needs to space out to the 3pt line in the middle of the play.

It looks like this may have been fixed. Post guy still moves too far away for my liking but at least it’s not Shaq going to the 3PT line.

Another update on Next Gen. The correct motion cuts are back to where they were in last-gen for the most part. Only actions I still see missing from the freelance are the pressure releases from the two guard front. In last-gen you can trigger those options using the motion button with passing or dribbling the ball to the wing first. Specifically I’m talking about the blind pig, center opposite, wing reverse and (in 2K) the UCLA high post option for the wing pick and roll.
