NCAA 06/07 PS2 Question & UNC Playbook For The Experts

Hey guys. Just recently got 07 with 06 on order as that seems to be the one everyone loves. So, honestly, I love 07! I think the first person kick returner is bad but other than that it feels great and had a super game last night. Great playbooks! UNC vs Virginia Tech. Didn't see a problem with momentum except when they have it you need to be careful but that honestly makes sense.

So 06 came in today. And it's great, I'm sure. I'm sure it's the best in time but man, I hate the kicking and especially the auto pass. What's everyone's thoughts on the auto pass? You can't turn it off in 06, correct? Didn't see much on it in all the forum posts.

Lastly, what are some other team's playbooks that would somewhat mimic the modern day UNC with Sam Howell?

    Thanks.

    1. If you press pause once you receive the kick, when you unpause, the camera is back to normal.

    2. 07 is ruined by jump the snap and super linebackers that pick off passes over the middle regardless of ratings or sliders.

    3. Not sure what you mean by auto pass. Unless you don’t touch a button after the snap, you are full control over everything.

I totally get what you’re saying about 07 feeling better than 06 on the surface. But once you start playing 06 for awhile, you’ll notice how annoying the momentum meter and JTS are in 07, lol. The only flaw I can ever find about 06 is the dated playbooks as far as gameplay itself is concerned.

Which brings me to your question about the Sam Howell offense. I’d like to see what volwalker says about this, but I think your best bet to mimick that offense is to run a PA Read-centered offense out of the gun. Definitely use Gun Split and Gun 2-Back Slot, but I would add Gun Spread and Gun Y Trips for some great deep pass plays. Gun Normal is a staple of any PA read offense I use as well.

Yeah, I think the issue is that in all other games past 06, you get used to never needing to touch anything after snapping the ball until it’s time to throw, and getting used to that. Every time I come back to 06, I forget that even when I have Auto Pass turned off, the QB will still make some quick throw before I know it.

I'm sure I remember an "auto throw" on/off option in the controller settings for 2006.

Yeah, it’s weird, though. You can turn it off and he’ll still throw it if you let him. At least on PS2.

The Auto Throw toggle isn't in 06, the Quick Passing option is which just skips one button press from bringing up the icons.
