Re: NBA 2K22 Official Roster Update (1.28.22) Sixth Ratings Update

Here are some players who I thought should have gone Up or Down but were not touched in this update. These are just my opinions

Players I thought deserved to go up:

    Tobias Harris - At least 1 OVR to 85 OVR - over the last six games:- 19.7 points (41.1 FG% on 15 attempts), - 7.2 free-throw attempts,- 7.3 rebounds, - 5 assists

    Khris Middleton - Still only rated 85 OVR - Last 7 Games - 24 PPG, 10 RPG, 6 APG, 1.5 BPG

Ayo Dosunmu - Pass Vision, and Defense are still rated too low as well as Speed/Acc ratings despite his OVR increase

DeAndre Hunter - Still only rated 77 OVR despite last 7 games of great defense & 16 ppg, 51% FG, 36.0% 3pt FG, 16-18 FT

Bogdan Bogdanovic - Rated a little low at 76 OVR, just returned from injury but has looked good in a scoring role off the bench last two games

    Duncan Robinson - Still only rated a 75 OVR despite last 3 games: 23.0 PPG, 62.2% FG, 56.3% 3PT

PJ Tucker - Having a great season but yet is rated the same as Omer Yurtseven and below a two-way player as he only has a 77 OVR rating

James Bouknight - Averaging 11 PPG 43% FG over past 5 games: Atleast deserves a 73 OVR

Harrison Barnes - Rated an 80 OVR despite 19 PPG, 6 RPG over his last 7 Games, should be at least on par with Haliburton in OVR

Austin Rivers - Still Rated 73 Overall - Has been a key part of Nuggets rotation with injuries - AVG 11PPG, on 56% 3PT on 4.5 attempts last 7 games

Frank Jackson - Still Rated 72 Overall - Was out with injury/COVID but production has stayed the same since prior to injury - 11PPG and a key part of rotation but is rated behind Saben Lee who is 74 OVR and doesn't play

Killian Hayes - Still rated 71 Overall - Has now been benched but OVR rating hasn't been touched at all since 2K21, No update to defense or passing, speed/speed with the ball, or acceleration

Jakob Poeltl - Still Rated 78 Overall - Has been consistently the Spurs 2nd best player averaging 19 PPG, 10 RPG, and 3 APG over the last 6 games

Robert Covington - Still Rated 74 Overall - Still rated way too low despite being the starting PF all season. Averaging 9 PPG, 8 RPG over last 6 games

Players who should of went down:

Nick Richards - Still rated 76 Overall - Intangibles rating of 98!!!!!! and he's not even in the rotation playing 2MPG or less

Enes Kanter - Still Rated 77 Overall - Not in the rotation and because C formula still weighs heavily on outdated skill-set for C

Cam Reddish - Still Rated 79 Overall - Has barely played since coming to NYK, yet is rated above all other wings except Barrett

DeAndre Jordan - Still Rated 77 Overall - Not in the rotation and hasn't been updated for 3 straight updates despite limited production

Jalen Smith - Still Rated 76 Overall - Has fallen back out of the rotation mix but is still rated on par with Jae Crowder who starts at PF

Aleksej Pokusevski - Still Rated 75 Overall - Has been in the G-League for most of the season + stats are horrible there as he's shooting 30% FG and under 30% from 3. Rated higher than Bazely and Wiggins who have been key contributors for OKC

Nemanja Bjelica - Still Rated 79 Overall - Has been vastly overrated all season, is a backup C averaging 6 PPG and 5 RPG yet is rated higher than starter Kevon Looney (77 OVR), and key sub off the bench Jordan Poole (78)

Klay Thompson - Still rated 86 OVR (did drop 1 point but not enough IMO) - Feel good story but ratings of 94 3PT, 90 Perimeter Defense, 90 Lateral Quickness, 87 Help D, 88 Pass Perception, 90 Defensive Consistency are all high for a player returning from 2 major injuries

Steph Curry - Still Rated 96 OVR (slight OVR drop would have been good) - Has had a huge shooting slump shooting 32% from 3PT but 2K refuses to reduce his 99 3PT rating

Players who I was surprised that dropped in rating:

Grant Williams - Not sure why he dropped in OVR, 8 PPG, 4 RPG, 52% 3PT in last 7 games, Constant rotation player, while Enes Kanter is not in the rotation and has been awful but is a 77 OVR

Lamelo Ball - Not sure why he went down either after increasing his scoring to 20 PPG in last 7 games + consistent rebounding and APG as normal

Jordan Poole - Still averaging 15 PPG in 27 MPG over last 7 games, shooting 38% from 3PT and 3 APG - Shouldn't be below Bjelica and Porter Jr in OVR rating

Obviously, these are my subjective opinion but I don't like seeing NON-Rotation players rated 2-3 points higher than someone who is in the rotation. There's no reason someone like Nick Richards should have ever been increased to a 76 OVR. I weigh each player's OVR solely in each positional category and Nick Richards is the same OVR as Sengun, Okongwu, Claxton, J.Hayes, N.Reid despite all of them being key rotation contributors and Richards not playing.

Re: NBA 2K22 Official Roster Update (1.28.22) Sixth Ratings Update

      Couple of HEAT related thoughts:

      1. Would like to see Bam’s perimeter defense bumped up a little as well as his speed and lateral quickness.

      2. Glad Caleb’s getting love these last few roster updates, his defense is getting bumped up is great. However, his 79 rating from mid range his high considering he shoots sub 30% from there the last I checked. He’s also way too slow.

      3. Omer having a 70 strength for a guy who gets bumped off his spot with ease is crazy to me.

      4. P.J. Tucker needs some love all over, having a phenomenal year showcasing everything in his arsenal. One of my favorite players ever, wish he was in this uniform since the beginning.

      5. Jimmy’s shooting?

      6. Duncan Robinson rounding into his usual self the last 20 something games, I think this will be adjusted for in the next update.

      7. Gabe Vincent’s defense in this game needs love just like Caleb is getting. 60 perimeter defense, 37 interior defense, 65 lateral quickness, 69 hustle??, 45 defensive consistency???, and a 60 help defense for this guy isn’t it. Coming into the season, our biggest worries were health and depth and the development of the depth has offset the injury bug that hit this team. Gabe is a huge reason why.

for the love of God please update Obi Toppin speed, hes so slow in this game, in real life all you see him is running up and down the court ready for lobs. I've legit never had an alley opp opportunity with him in this game.

            POINT GUARD
            84 (+2) Kyle Lowry
75 (NC) Gabe Vincent (probably a 76 once I do badges; he has zero)
            72 (+3) Kyle Guy

            SHOOTING GUARD
            77 (+2) Duncan Robinson
            82 (-1) Tyler Herro
            80 (NC) Victor Oladipo

            SMALL FORWARD
            93 (-1) Jimmy Butler
            78 (NC) Max Strus
77 (-2) Caleb Martin (79 is a joke, as I will outline below).

            POWER FORWARD
79 (+2) P.J. Tucker (Martin > Tucker is a microcosm of how bad 2K is at player value)
            77 (+5) Markieff Morris
            70 (-1) KZ Okpala

            CENTER
            86 (NC) Bam Adebayo
            79 (+2) DeWayne Dedmon
            76 (-1) Omer Yurtseven
            68 (-2) Udonis Haslem

79-rated Caleb Martin (on a 2-Way) is the 20th highest rated SF in the NBA 2K roster.

Starting SFs in the 2K roster with a lower rating than Caleb Martin:
            76 Matisse Thybulle
            78 Lauri Markkanen
77 Nicolas Batum (actually, the ENTIRE Clippers team has a lower rating than Caleb Martin)
            77 DeAndre Hunter
80 Harrison Barnes (not lower but uhhhhh LMAO)
            73 Trevor Ariza
            76 Dorian Finney-Smith
            76 Jeff Green
            74 Justin Holiday
            78 Eric Gordon
            76 Joe Harris
            74 Doug McDermott
            75 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

The 2K roster team need to take inventory with themselves because they aren't half as good at their job as they think they are.

The over reliance of the “intangibles” rating is what does it. OS has talked about that before, serves no purpose other than inflate overalls when you shouldn’t NEED to as long as the right attributes are being touched up.

One thing I really like is increase/decrease of some of the player’s defensive attributes. Hope that’s a thing that continues going forward, don’t know if they did that last season but props to them. Have they done a badge update yet? Feel like we should be getting one here soon if we haven’t already.

Re: NBA 2K22 Official Roster Update (1.28.22) Sixth Ratings Update

So with all these rating changes, are the players actual ratings changing? Or is the 'intangible' rating just changing? It's my understanding that the 'intangible' rating has no actual effect of players performance on the court, and only seems to effect the minutes they get in the rotation.

One thing I really like is increase/decrease of some of the player’s defensive attributes. Hope that’s a thing that continues going forward, don’t know if they did that last season but props to them. Have they done a badge update yet? Feel like we should be getting one here soon if we haven’t already.
Very minimal badge changes have been given so far. My understanding is a separate dev works specifically on the badges and not the same person who is in charge of ratings. The badges are the most VITAL to gameplay and how players should perform on the court. Attributes are key of course but not as important as badges anymore.

The intangible rating unfortunately is still being used way too often in place of accurate individual attributes and a lot of that is due to lack of the higher up 2K execs valuing the need to allow the roster team devote specific time to that one area. Instead the team is pulled across multiple modes (specifically keeping MyTeam content churning almost daily).

The best thing we as a community can do is provide as much concrete info as possible for each player and post it rather than just (player x) is rated too low. Instead which categories, badges etc are too low or high. Just my two cents

Noted your frustrations during the Pacers segment of your video.

In your experience, how often would say that they adjust the defensive ratings of players?

CP3 is finally a 90.... I don't even know why he dropped lol

I really don't understand how LaMelo Ball rating is dropping.

                        Dwight Howard's 3PT rating fixed @ 68 for the second year (2k21 & 2k22) in a row now,
I think it changed to 70 in 2k22 for a couple weeks, WTF?

My thoughts on the San Antonio Spurs:
                          PG:
Dejounte Murray: probably needs a +1 if SGA is an 87 I think Murray deserves it. Consistently getting triple doubles now.
Tre Jones: doesn't play much but is more talented than his rating. But it kind of fits for now.

                          SG:
Derrick White: hard to say with him, floating around an 80 feels about right.
Lonnie Walker: super athletic, not a great defender, his rating is probably about right floating around 75.
Joshua Primo: I kind of understand the -1 bc he's not a rotational player at this point but the upside is clearly there.

                          SF:
Devin Vassell: I really think he deserves a +1 or 2. Talent wise he is pretty much up to par with Derrick White imo.
Doug McDermott: doesn't need a big upgrade, but he's a better finisher in real life than in 2K. Dunked on Sengun and he's a really underrated cutter. Maybe +1?
Joe Wieskamp: I actually think he could possibly use a +1 bc he doesn't get a ton of minutes but the advanced stats love the guy. Like 3rd with rookies in offensive efficiency or something along those lines.

                          PF:
Keldon Johnson: really wish 2K would just make McBuckets a PF and Keldon a SF. In 2K especially, Keldon is not a PF. I would give him a -1 and have him the same rating as Vassell. The shooting has improved but he isn't having a great season efficiency wise, not too great of a defender either.
Keita Bates-Diop: I guess the rating drop isn't too harsh, I like him as a player. Might be a better defender in real life than 2K gives him credit for but he's not some kind of proven shooter.

                          C:
Jakob Poeltl: should be over an 80 at this point. He's a top defending big man in the NBA and he's also dropping 20 and 10 on a much more regular basis now. He's the second best player on the Spurs and his rating should reflect that.
Thaddeus Young: this is going to be an unpopular opinion bc he isn't being benched bc of his lack of skills, but I would put his intangible rating all the way down to lower his rating to like a 72 (end of the bench). He isn't a part of the rotation, so it would make sense. If he gets traded, just change the rating.
Drew Eubanks: he's the backup center, but I don't know if he's a 76. Probably more like a 74 or 75. Good defender, good athlete, that's about the extent of it. Probably best suited as a high energy 3rd center.
Jock Landale: every bit as good as Drew Eubanks, just a different skillset. Not as athletic, not as good of a defender, but can score in the post and shoot 3's at a high rate. Also leads the rookies in offensive efficiency. He should probably be like a 74.

And for the love of God all I ask is that 2K tries to get a game face for Eubanks who has been with the organization for 2-3 years now and Landale who is a baller and exciting player in real life but they are both unusable generic players in 2K. At least Eubanks is useable ratings wise, but his character model is so bad. Landale's is worse. He's tall and lanky/skinny in real life and looks like Matt Bonner in 2K. Eubanks and Keldon Johnson also both have a more physically imposing build in real life. And it seems like a couple of guys (Vassell, maybe Lonnie and Keldon) are taller in real life than in 2K.

The attributes are (mostly) fine. It's badges that are a league-wide joke.

Caleb Martin went up to a 79 OVR and he has 1 badge. THAT'S where they're using Intangibles to compensate nowadays, as Badges have affected OVR for about 3 years now.

                            80 GAMEPLAY BADGES
                            18 Inside Scoring
                            20 Outside Scoring

As with everything roster-related, EFFICIENCY is the name of the game. The league has roughly 500 players. Whoever is responsible for badges hasn't learned how to power them out in a reasonable time frame, so they really don't even try.

There are as many badges as there are attributes. Maybe this sounds overwhelming, but it's really not. Attributes (most of which are automated nowadays) are on a 25-99 scale. Badges are on a 0-4 scale. The smaller range makes their application broader and less specific. With all things equal, they should be EASIER than the attributes.

NBA 2K22 released 148 days ago.
At present, I've edited the badges of 151 NBA players in my roster.
2K has edited approximately 12 since the start of the season. This is one player every 12 days

It took me a full year of observation to get a handle on the badge system and where 2K was drawing lines with their tiers in each category. I've also spent years working with the data that helps determine those lines in the sand, and have enough player & archetype familiarity to make the various judgement calls.

They don't have anyone on their team capable of matching my level and it reflects in the quality of their work. This isn't arrogant boasting. I am simply speaking as someone who actively puts in the work, who spends their time providing critical analysis of the content they are putting out.

2K doesn't have anyone better than me, and that's a problem. Because there are PLENTY of people out there with greater basketball/NBA knowledge & technical proficiency, a stronger work ethic, high quality verbal & written communication skills, charismatic social media presence, with ACTUAL connections to the league & sport. It shouldn't be amateur hour in 2022.

Faking it with gimmicks (as they did introducing the "2K Insider" back in 2008), and hiring passionate (read: willing to work for peanuts) community figures was one thing when they were still a small company competing with Goliath. They're Goliath now. With all the resources they have (along w/ 20 years of experience now), they shouldn't be penny pinching with Joes off the OS forums. You get what you pay for.

Curry a 99 3pts when he is shooting a 37% in the real world
Klay a 94 3pts when he is shooting a 36% in the real world (not to speak about his way overrated defense like he was not almost 3 years out)*
                              and both with ridiculous badges...

On the other side... Middleton a 81 3pts when he is shooting a 38% in the real world... so what? He is the most underrated superstar by a big margin... lads he is a champion who was able to carry his team to the Finals with the aka 2k God Anteto injured in the the conference finals...

Speaking about defense... the best team in the NBA has no love from 2k on guys like Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges (they should be elite on defense both) and... Devin Booker... who is showing to be a two-way superstar this season in the best team so far...

Come on now! At least be consistent... LOL

And please, it's absurd to see that big guys like Giannis and Kawhi are the two with the best combination of perimeter defense and lateral quickness in the game... that's not physically possible stop that nonsense for goods and all...
