I finally got some serious traction on my first run through of the first game over the last couple of weeks after numerous aborted attempts.
I really don't care about completionist activities....thinking about shifting the game into the lowest difficulty just so I can fly through and enjoy the story.
I'm really intrigued by the new game; but I think I am going to delay until I finish-off the main storyline for the first game.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Darn it, after watching Digital Foundry's review....I may be all-in on Day 1...

It's a really good story. If you can finish it prior to the sequel i'd definitely do it.

You're the second person to say that to me here recently. And I am into games for stories more than anything. I wasn't really feeling the story (felt like a fairly standard revenge plot) but then just hit the part where...
Spoiler
I found Olim and he told me about "Hades" (which sounds like a whole new can of worms - it definitely got me pondering "I wonder what that is" for the first time)
I did the Spock "eyebrow raise" at that and I feel like I may have come across the actual crux of the game.
It's a long haul to my next main storyline mission marker....but if folks are telling me the storyline payoff is worthwhile (and it sounds like they are), it's definitely something I'll do.
I definitely saw at least one past character in the new game - so I don't want to pick-up the new game without having the full context.

I pretty much choose the highest frame rate all the time but this article has the author switching to highest FPS for combat but resolution for exploring. Says the higher res is noticeable when playing. May have to play with this.
Favor Resolution or Favor Performance? Hm... why not both?
And I liked the first game after I gave up and tried again. I found the first game really hard so I enjoyed it more when I dropped the difficulty. Of course my son beats it on Hard lol. The story was good and I guess there is even more to do in this game.

As amazing as all core aspects that usually make a game great are in this game, the STORY stands heads and shoulders above all else.
Count me in as part of the crowd of folks who would not touch Forbidden West until they finished Zero Dawn.
Definitely not a good idea. [emoji846]

If you're playing Zero Dawn before doing Forbidden West, PLEASE don't do yourself a disservice and rush through it. The story and characters in Zero Dawn are AMAZING. I found myself digging through the wiki for lore. Soak it all in!
The 1st game was a surprise for me I bought it a few years after it came out and played it for 70 hours which is extremely rare for me. I've not pre ordered it yet I think I'll give it a few weeks and make sure they are no surprises. I've got some GameStop gift cards I need to use and I like the time of year its coming out after football and before the weather gets warm.
Got the special edition disc coming friday cant wait. The first game is the best sony exclusive ever made there I said it lol and this looks like it should be a good amount better.
