    Re: Elden Ring

Does anyone around here play this on current gen (PS4)?

How does it compare to next-gen? Since Souls games are not exactly known as graphically jaw dropping (though some locations in DS3 certainly look the part), is there a big drop-off between the two gens let's say visually, in terms of gameplay "smoothness", framerate and whatnot?

I am starting to get the itch but with PS5 nowhere in sight, I don't know if this is worth getting on PS4, especially for the full price.

I have a friend who plays on OG PS4 and has had no complaints with performance or visuals. If you buy it digitally on PSN, you get both copies of PS4 and PS5. I haven't seen the difference between PS4 and PS5, but I did see that some people are playing the PS4 version on their PS5 because it's a locked 60fps.

One of my roommates just bought it on his PS4 instead of his PC since you can upgrade to the PS5 once you get it anyway

Hasn't had any issues yet on his base PS4

Co-Op is pretty fun once you've leveled up a bit more past wherever you're laying your sign down (I dropped mine in front of Margit's front door and got nearly instant summons from people going in to fight the boss). You start with fewer flasks as a cooperator though, so you'd better either have your dancing shoes on or be leveled up enough that a few hits won't kill you.

I'm hitting a bit of a wall with upgrading my weapons - I know the 1st level smithing stones are farmable off a certain type of enemy as well as found in the world in numerous places, but the world pickups don't respawn and the enemy in question has such a huge loot table that you pretty much have to be doubly lucky - 1 - that you get a drop at all and 2 - that it's the drop you actually want. I have the crafting recipe for the item discovery booster, but it's not helping as much as I'd like. I also actually have a bunch of the higher rank smithing stones from various places in the game, but I can't upgrade the first few weapon levels with those.

          As for story progress....

Patch has already dropped attempting to fix CPU frame rate issues. Can’t say if it worked as I’m playing on PS5. I’m wondering though what all the review bombers are gonna to use as ammunition now [emoji848]

I think it’s mostly just the lower resolution allowing for a more true locked in 60fps on the older console versions. I believe the same is true for the series S as well.

Damn this game did get review bombed, so did hfw. I think at this point you just have to ignore metacritic and the review bombs. It seems to be happening with every major release.

Review bombs are effectively making reviews on site aggregates completely meaningless.

I will never go by an aggregate score due to review bombing. I read multiple professional sites, then watch videos and, if in doubt I rent, but otherwise I ignore those reviews by peons with an axe to grind, completely pointless and Elden Ring proves that!

if you like open world games, this game is pure crack. Very addicting. I'm still in the first area and there is stuff to see and monsters to kill around every corner.

I literally just made it North of Limgrave [emoji28]. I’ve only been playing for 25 hours and am at level 42 [emoji23]. I’ve taken to the very very scenic route.

For all of the QoL's this game has compared to other Fromsofts, would it be too much to ask to have lifts reset their position on player death, so that you don't have to pull a lever every time you make your "corpse" run? I've also seen plenty of bloodstains of people just running off the edge where a lift should be to their deaths.

Here is how to get Elden Ring on PC to run in ultrawide and uncapped frame rate.

One thing it does not say is that you should not run the game from Steam, it won't work...go into the Elden Ring folder and double click on the eldenring.exe and it will work then.

Click on my pic below to see what it looks like in Ultrawide on the PC
