I'm hopeful that this isn't the primary addition to MyNBA/MyGM, there's a ton of things that need to be improved and streamlined that I view as higher priority than the expansion of 2K Scenarios.

In what world would this addition be “minute” in any facet? This would allow us to relive past eras in MyNBA, with era-specific rosters and draft classes from Day 1 instead of us having to wait 6+ months (if ever) for a custom roster and custom draft classes to be made by someone here on OS. And those YouTube simulation videos are nowhere near comparable to actually being able to play out these eras for yourself and make whatever dream scenario you might want at the drop of a hat.

This would be a monumental addition to MyNBA and scoffing at it like you did is beyond ridiculous.

Sim stats will need extra care if this is true as someone said above. This had been a weak point since the jump to next gen

This makes perfect sense as to how they’ll implement all the Jordan era rules and attire/styling/play styles etc. into MyNBA. Amazing.

But I hope we still can use a lot of their era tweaks and coaches like Phil into regular MyNBA mode too.

Eh the vast majority of players will never touch this.

I dunno about “monumental,” but on balance I agree that “minute” might be underselling it, too. You’re right that it would speed up the rollout of classic rosters and maybe draft classes, but you gotta realize that what takes so long with those is creating all the missing players and fixing everything about the existing players / coaches / etc. A 2K-quality classic roster for any season could be cranked out in like a day (i.e., putting existing players on the right teams, making quick ratings adjustments, no sig adjustments, and filling out the rest of each team with David Williams). So still expect to wait months for the community to fix each era, just like the community takes time fixing the historic draft classes that are — in principle — already in the game by default.

Also, I took OP’s point re: YouTubers to mean simply that their content demonstrates that re-playing the NBA from a past year onwards is already practical for anyone to do, not that watching their videos is a substitute for actually playing.

IMO the biggest thing the Eras concept offers is — for console gamers (PC can already easily do this) — a way to have team branding change without tethering the save file to 2K’s servers, which I don’t give 2K credit for because it’s a solution to a bogus problem of their own making (requiring a save to connect to the servers if more than 3 teams are edited in any way, even if no uploaded resources are used).

            And also…

Sim stat accuracy is so important here too. Don't want to see Magic averaging 35 PPG or Bird grabbing 18 RPG. The 360/PS3 era stats were so much better with getting things almost identical to real life.
…this is what it really boils down to. For me personally, if these eras are self-contained 8-to-10-year windows (like if a Jordan-era MyNBA file concludes the playthrough at his retirement) then that’s of little interest, though I understand it could still be big for others who enjoy single-season / short-term retro playthroughs. For me though the value would be in being able to turn back the league clock / records / cap / etc. and then be able to play the MyNBA normally for as long as one wants (being able to sandbox and change the league accordingly over time). You can already do a lot of this with mods on PC, but not everything, and of course it’s always easier / cleaner when mods are not needed.

My hunch is that these will be pretty self-contained modes that expire at a certain point, but I hope 2K surprises me.

            EDIT: And they surprise me!

              Re: NBA 2K23: MyNBA Eras?

I think that if we have an era based myleague and all that era specific rules etc. maybe just maybe i thought we may get back to old 2k system where we define the gameplay as 'simulation, arcade etc.' other than difficulty slider and it would be something 2k i think needed for some years.. Things are all one dimensional and we NBA guys 5V5 are mostly suppressed by park gameplays etc.

Seperating gameplay types from mypark, myteam, and other 1P game modes from 5v5 nba online/offline play now, play now online, myleague online etc. gameplays would be an important factor to really not force NBA based gameplay as park gameplay so that vast majority can be happier especially us, players on the NBA portion in which we play again Play Now, MyLeague and Play Now Online and MyLeague Online etc.

                Re: NBA 2K23: MyNBA Eras?

If this indeed includes all teams, then surely this has been years in the making. They just waited for the right moment and finish all the details, getting the rights probably took a long time and maybe waited for the okay (budget) to actually negotiate a big *** deal with most retired players not part of the regular PA.

More likely is most teams having 5-6 players, but the more I think about it, the crazier it seems this is actually true. Even to get all 28-32 teams from 1 season, let alone all these eras is an insane amount of work.

If they did manage to get rights to at least have 5 players of each team from 1983-2010+ and have accurate faces, the courts & uniforms changing, rules changing, drafts being as they were, I mean that would be ground breaking and 2k truly being the master of developers.

Side note: don’t think we’ll get all seasons. Likely MJ era stops in 1998, Kobe’s maybe after 2010 or 2005 and 80s not sure. I just did the math and it would be likely 24-25 years in total. Each era being 8 years long, hence the 1983 choice.

                So 1st era = 1983-1990
                MJ era = 1991-1998
                Kobe era = 2002-2009/10

I thought the old Simulation, Casual, etc. settings were just slider presets.

Since this forum is tied to 2k in a way, leaks are the not best thing to allow + it was a reference to a non-English website.

Ronnie last week: “best one is yet to come”after Jordan challenges was revealed, so that definitely gives credence to the leak!!!

On one hand, the amount of work and crazy amount of time/money that would go into this mode almost sounds like it would be worth its own game or at least DLC price so if this is true Kudos to 2K for allowing it in the base game package as between the Jordan Classic and this a person could just do the classic modes for the next year or beyond until the next game comes out.

Part of me thinks this is a fake rumor, but that said, it seems oddly specific and a bizarre thing to make up if it is not true. I only say that because it is not like any of us would expect something this ambitious, although 2K does the most ambitious and cool things in the major sports' video games by far IMO.

When I thought about this, I was like: "This cant be true"... but it does make sense as the Jordan Challenge puts things together.

With the Link being taken down, that makes it even more credible "In my opinion" because the team at 2K could of definitely said in so many words either here or in other forums "Not happening" as I have seen them do to other rumors but they haven't.

I guess we will see whats right later today as the new blog comes out...

I wonder if we can keep Jordan from retiring the 1st time. But I would also want to keep Shaq with the Magic lol, and build a dynasty with them
