    My Eras question

    Hey guys,

When you guys are playing the different eras do you set to control all teams if you want to try and reject trades that happen and try to keep the year the same how it was in real life? Will affect other teams coaching etc if you are controlling all teams?

Also, I wanted to play with the penny Shaq team in the 90s era but there is no way to make that happen unless you end up being able to draft them after simming a few seasons?

    Thanks!

    Re: My Eras question

Yes you can control every team, turn off/on CPU trades, veto trades the CPU makes, force the CPU to accept your trades, etc. So you can make anything happen, really. You could control every team in the draft and force them all to draft the same player they did IRL, or change history however you see fit.

It would be a lot of work to do, but it's yours to control if you want to.

      Thanks E,

Im using your sliders too btw and liking them. Been playing 2k since the first one on Dreamcast.

Im just wondering if you control every team, when your using the team you want to be and playing another team that you also control. Coaching adjustments mid game, playoffs, matchups etc I don't think the computer would do Becuase technically its controlled by you?

You can set whether that's automated or controlled by you. Can't remember which settings list its under but it's called "Automation" I believe and you can choose which teams have which systems controlled by the AI. I usually set everything to be automated, then switch to the team I want total control over and only set that team to manual.

I was also wondering about this of how to get the teams/rosters to play out like they did in real life.

Me too! I was a huge sonics fan and during the Jordan Era it's only 1991/92

So Shrempf and Ervin Johnson and Hersey Hawkins, Askew are not on the team - Sam Perkins as well and Brikowsky (I might be missing 1 or 2)

But that's a lot of players - so I was wondering - Does the game try to offer up trades to get all the teams as they would be over the years? or is it completely up to the user to make the NBA look like it did by 1995 for example?

I was hoping the league would evolve as it did automatically because the amount of work to get all the rosters looking like they did just a few years in would be astronomical

Brickowski didnt sign with the Sonics until the 95-96 season but the game doesnt do that. I am kinda like you where I want the league to look the way it was so what is manually draft all players how they were. If players that were really important are missing then ill update the CAPs to reflect.

Its pretty fun to me, not going to lie, I boost everyones stats a bit so that superstars become superstars. I manually trade players as well to get where they need to as much as possible. Gotta put in a little work to get it where yiu want, but to me Its fun to just vibe out and focus in on the NBA 2k world for a bit haha

I'm playing as the 91/92 Cavs with fully named rosters for all teams and about 15 free agents. After a bit of full-team control, I realized that there was no way the records would match realism by the end of the year (Magic hasn't retired, Bird isn't injured, etc.) so I let the computer take over all the teams but the Cavs and I am having a blast! I'm in late December and it is the most fun I have had playing a sports game.

It's fantasy. The Mavericks are terrible and are likely to win the lottery and draft Shaq. What a world!?!?!

I am going to do a full-team control later this year to get me to 95-96 and take over the Grizzlies. Basketball reference makes this way easier than you think it would be. It's just adding missing players and draftees.

Not going to hold you, this is also the most fun I have had in a while when it comes to gaming. I cant game everyday, but when I do, I get 2-3 hours in. This Eras thing is just so expansive, and I use College Hoops as well to add in some fun into the mix. I didn't realize it but having these historical changes, the broadcast and all is just making me love the game even more.

This also pushes me to be ore creative and create storylines even when I try to make the exact things happen (that I can control): Bird, Magic and McHale are still playing with Isiah Thomas having his number retired in 1992.

                  - Drazen decided to take that flight instead of driving with friends so he will be available for the next season for the Nets.. He changed the number to #2 to remember the ladies lives impacted by the crash (they survived).

                  - Reggie Lewis doctor was able to work it where his heart was in the best shape to play and his minutes dwindled but he is medically proved to go.

If you were born pre 90s and love hoops.. this mode is DEEP.

I'm wondering if anyone has figured out when the lottery order is actually determined by the computer, as it's definitely before you select it in the offseason menu.

I just have a few things I will not accept when venturing on an era, and that's anyone other than Orlando in 1992 and Cleveland in 2003 winning those lotteries.

I can appreciate this. I do not know when the order is decided, but I have simmed the 91/92 season multiple times to test some things and the order is never repeated. I suggest saving before the offseason and then jumping into the lottery and seeing how things go. Restart if it's not what you want. Remember to turn off auto-save.

I just control all teams when the Draft starts and usually trade the picks around to how it was at least in the first 5 first and draft the way it was... takes a while but its cool.

I'm doing the Magic/Bird Era and working on a roster for it. Basketball Reference is your friend. They have team rosters for every year. So, I've pretty much gone in and used the CAP fillers on each team to add real players that are missing and then use Player DNA for their attributes. It's been fun just getting everything together. Once I start the Franchise I'll do full control so that I can maintain what happens trade wise. I think I'm going to play with injuries off the first year so that no free agents are picked up and go from there. Not sure how many years I want to draft players to their real teams before I let the "What If's" take place? I'll be playing with the Knicks so probably after 1985 so I can get Ewing lol.

Never thought this would be the case but NBA 2K23 reminds me of the grand strategy games made by Paradox.

I'm treating my Kobe era franchise the same way I play those games. It gives me a historical starting point, but right after starting it becomes alternate history.

There is simply no way to make it follow history so why put forth a lot of effort to make it kinda follow history is my thinking.

                            So whatever happens, happens.

I get that but for people who love a team in 1992 or 1994 etc your team HAS to have the guys you want - and in some cases I'm trying to figure it out -

Base game has 1996 Supersonics - so for me I don't mind if the roster is 1994-'96 but if you start in Jordan's era I don't think the Sonics Center Ervin Johnson was in the league yet - so I'm not sure how others handle that - He's in the game, then dev's made him, so I don't want some whack CAP - how do you guys handles those situations?
