Interesting to say the least. I'm a Clemson *****, so I think they're rated too highly.

EA had the impossible job of trying to rate teams/players form scratch, and considering most teams get transfer players, there's no way to rate the teams accurately. I'll allow it.

An absolute slap in the face to Tennessee. Yes, I am being a homer, but there's no reason that they should have been left off of this ranking, as well as the top offensive unit list.

Gotta go prove them wrong I guess

I was really hoping we'd get the complete team list today. My fault for overthinking the word overall.

At first glance the list seems fine to me and better than the others. The 1st team being 95 and 9/14th being 88 is a pretty big gap. If you get down to the 70th ranked teams that should confirm how much better the elite teams are.

Re: EA Sports College Football 25 Overall Team Power Rankings

I'm a Miami fan, but I find it curious that they are tired for being the 9th best team in the nation. I know recruiting has been at a new level ever since Cristobal took over, and their portal additions have been big this off-season, but that's a high ranking.

I know PFF is helping with rankings and PFF seems to love a lot of Miami players, so it makes sense in that regard. It's just, being a fan of the team, and one that tries not to be too big of a homer, I am not sure Miami has potentially the 9th best talent in the country at this point in time.

I know the overall ratings are likely dictated by some formula that likely more heavily weighs the QB1 than many other spots, so having Cam Ward likely has their offense and overall ratings higher than anticipated, but tied for 9th still feels wild. I hope for my sake EA is getting this one right, lol.

Regarding the ratings, I don't mind that everyone seems grouped together. Same with the offensive and defensive ratings we were given yesterday. There seems to be a decent spread and a clear difference between the true top tier units/teams and then the rest. I feel like in CFB you have a few elite teams each year, a few good to great teams, a huge jumbled mess of a lot of teams that don't separate themselves, then the bad teams. Their ratings seem to indicate they feel a similar way with how a few units/teams are in the 90s and clearly higher than the rest while the bulk of the rest of the top 25 are all in a similar range.

I am glad the best team is a 95 and not a 99. I hope that is indicative of both player and team ratings being in the high 90s or even mid 90s is actually rare.

Nobody has Colorado as a top 25 team, including Vegas who probably knows more about this than anyone.

I hate sounding negative before a game comes out, and I'm still buying this day 1, but I'm really worried that this game is going to be way more silly arcade than an actual sim.

If the formulas for unit ratings and overall team ratings are similar to Madden or NCAA 14, which I'd assume is the case given this is an EA football game, then having a highly rated QB like Sanders likely will be, and having another highly rated player like Hunter at both WR and CB is going to elevate the ratings.

You can have an offense where every player is an 85 overall in Madden, then have an offense where all 10 starters are 80 overall the QB is a 90 overall and the game is going to have their offenses with the same overall rating or even have the one with the better QB slightly higher.

They don't just take an average of every player on the team or side of the ball and go off that. There are formulas in place where some positions are bigger factors than other as well as it usually weighing the starting lineup significantly more than it does depth.

I don't necessarily think their formulas are the best, but that's how it is traditionally done and is likely why Colorado is rated how they are. If Sanders is one of the top 10 QBs in the game, that will significantly raise their offensive rating even if the rest of the unit is average outside of Hunter. And if Hunter is a 95 overall WR and CB, that's going to really raise their offense and defense ratings to the point they will be rated similarly to other defenses that are much more well rounded but lack an elite top player like Hunter.

I'd rather see EA move away from these types of ratings and have the teams broken down by position group and then depth among other things, but I get why they do it the way they do and don't expect that to change anytime soon.

I think that's close enough of rating for Miami the Lindy magazine for example has them 17th. The new QB's and HB they brought in your looking at 90ish overalls so that would bump them up.
