    Cutting Freshmen

This is one of the biggest annoyances so far in the game, and I don't get the need for it.

Right now, we can't cut incoming recruits from the team, so if you happen to get a large class, and then find out oh, i went overboard on this, or this guy is only a 58, there is no way to remove him, and you are forced to keep that player for the entire year, while cutting a better player.

I just dont understand the logic on this, people get cut from the team at any point in real life, so why has EA created a management situation, where you are forced to keep every recruit for at least a year?

Is it because they changed it to encourage to transfer? And freshmen can't transfer before the year?

I just dont get the decision made for this, just call it transfer/cut and let us drop bad freshmen, otherwise expanding to 85 didn't really do us any good.

Can teams just refuse to honor a scholarship as soon as a kid gets to campus? I'm not sure that's actually a thing that happens outside of serious injury or criminal behavior.

How often does it happen that a high school kid will sign a LOI and get cut before the season for anything other than discipline reasons? I don't think I can recall that happening. I would think that would hurt you as a recruiter in real life because players may not trust there is a spot for them.

How many times is a team limited to 85 spots on the roster? Kid can still go to class for free, just get him off my team.

Something that should be fixed. If you can drop a junior, you can drop a freshman.

How? A kid who signs an LOI for football has to go to school for at least 2 semesters. You can't reclaim the scholarship because he isn't good enough. That is what the preferred walk-on is for. From the link below (my emphasis added):

What is the National Letter of Intent (NLI)?

The NLI is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution.
Prospective student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters).
Institution agrees to provide athletics financial aid for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters).
Penalty for not fulfilling the NLI agreement: Serve one year in residence (full-time two semesters or three quarters) at the next NLI member institution and lose one season of competition in all sports.

            NOTE: This is a PDF.

BTW: If a track athlete on scholarship for track makes the football team as a walk-on, he has to be given a football scholarship.

It is already correct. You are obligated to honor the athletic scholarship for a period of 2 semesters. You also cannot cut a player you signed from the Transfer Portal for the same reason.

                Re: Cutting Freshmen

I like the ideal that you can't cut freshman and it goes along with making dynasty more realistic. I don't see that being something that's changed. I do wish the "encourage players to transfer" happened at the end of the year to make room on the roster to help with scholarships.

In normal circumstances, teams don't cut a bunch of true freshmen before they even start their career. Maybe they aren't any good and leave after 1 year, but they at least stay a year. If you have a small senior class of 12 it's not going to be the year to sign 25 guys. So I would use that as a year to try and land some higher ranked prospects. This also makes the scholarships you throw out mean a little more.

I wonder if the perk of a top 5 recruiting class plays a role in this. This could be a way to avoid people cheesing the system to sign a bunch of people just to cut them.

Just pay attention to your roster and the type of players you need to recruit.

Do some work yourself before you get to the offseason.

I’m firmly in the camp of those that absolutely think we should not be allowed to cut recruits that we just signed as this is much more accurate to real life.

It’s the OP’s fault for over recruiting, but now he hopefully learned his lesson and won’t do it any more.

alright, guess i was wrong about everything, still hate the mechanic but I see why they did it now.

Next complaint, not filling positions with walk-ons like the old games used to.

What's missing is a proper training camp for us to evaluate the new recruits. We should have a Freshman and Redshirt Freshman scrimmage game.

I actually like the system. Over recruiting was kind of a cheesy thing in older NCAA games. You could make house rules for it, but I like that the system now discourages me from doing it. Now you have to be a bit more selective and plan for what your want to do.

But I also think that it, like many things in this game, should have a user toggle. Not everyone wants to play the same way and EA should give us the tools to play how we want.

I swore in one of the deep dives they said when you encouraged players to transfer they show up on other teams. Definitely not the case. There should be one more week for all the cut players to be recruited and whoever isn't to walk on at places with open roster spots.

They do end up at new schools.
