What a bummer!! (Coach Suggestions)

Well, with the addition of a ton of plays this year, I think the devs slipped up and didn't update the coach suggestions tab !! Just found out that it doesn't touch half the plays in your playbook lol.

I'm just finishing up my first season and had a eureka moment lol. I'm like, wait a minute, how come I keep seeing the same exact pass / run plays? I decided to shift right and check out the plays by "player" and "formation" and ALL KINDS of new plays were tucked away that never saw the light of day during the season.

I was elated and angry at the same time. Wonder if they can fix this in a patch? In the mean time in between time, to balance it out and see some new things, I'm going to switch back and forth by using coach suggestions for a drive, then random manually selected plays for the next drive and back and forth that way for the next season. Who knows, maybe if I use random plays it will trigger some sort of algorithm that will add the play to the coach suggestions list depending on frequency of use.

I’ve slowly increased the number of offensive plays I call via concept or play type. I never call defense from coach suggestions. I find it to be a much better experience.

However, if you just want to hop in, it’s a bit disappointing.

Yeah, I had so many planned QB runs that were never called. my bad for not like fully investigating the playbook, but sucks when the suggestion is like 6 plays but its just 2 plays 3 times in a row

My deep dive knowledge of football 'play calling' is pretty much non existent lol, so I've ALWAYS just used coach suggestions from years back when it was first introduced. It was probably like this from the start years ago and I never knew!

What really sucks is the cpu you face probably only calls from the same plays as well. And 3rd and long it's all but guaranteed four verticals. I do all cpu vs cpu and see the same plays a lot. Pretty bad I can notice without seeing play art or the actual play call. But when I see the same run inside where the TE motions and my defense doesn't realize it's coming it is annoying. This won't be fixed cause it's always been like this forever.

Good suggestion. I do something similar on first down I’m allowed to scroll one page, second down two pages, etc. That doesn’t stop me from seeing the same 10-20 plays every game in a different order. I only handicap myself because I believe it’s what the cpu uses.

I like calling offense from coach suggestions what I hate is that there is now way to use formation subs or anything from that screen.

Tried it out. It didn't appear to have the same effect, but I'll keep an eye on it over the next few games to see what it does.

I'd personally avoid the Coach Suggestions option. In my experience they're very rarely good suggestions.


Calling by concept is a good way for easy decisions. It's great because on say 3rd and 7 I can go "medium pass" and see every option in my playbook.

If you genuinely want to set plays up, by formation is best in my opinion.

I do like a combination of Formation or personnel and concept. Use personnel to see which personnel group has the most sets then use concepts to see which concepts have the most plays i.e. which run, short pass, medium pass, deep pass etc..then call those concepts from formations out of those personnel groups. Like running the offense the way it's "supposed" to be run.

I just remembered another thing I've done in the past is call plays left to right based on most represented play type. For example... if I get to the play call screen and I'm presented with [_]-run X-pass /\-run I have to call [_] (PS5) because there are 2 runs on the screen and [_] is the left most one. If one play type is represented more than others then I have to scroll. So if it's [_]-run X-rpo /\-pass, I have to scroll to the next page. Same on the next page? Scroll again. You get the picture.

I do this mainly because I play my dynasty essentially like road to glory in game and only control the QB so I want to remove myself from play calling.

How do you switch from one concept to another? I'm sure it's just something I missed, but if I get out of coach suggestions to a run concept because the coach suggestions are so bad, I don't know how to get out of just running the ball on every down.
