Trojans' Defense Comes Up Huge In Seattle

LEFT - Zachariah Branch took this curl, pirouetted out of the tackle, and sprinted 55 yards for the score as he added to his likely Heisman winning highlight reel.
CENTER - Russell Davis II found a gift that Miller Moss left on the field, cutting the USC lead to just 5. The Huskies did their part on the day with 3 turnovers.
RIGHT - USC picked off Will Rogers twice in the 4th quarter to cement the win in Seattle.
Seattle, WA. - The Huskies defense entered Saturdays matchup against the 12th ranked Trojans knowing they would need to play their best football if they wanted to ground the #2 offense in the country.
After a slow start that saw the Trojans score on 3 of their first 4 drives it looked like the Huskies finally found their bite, picking off Miller Moss to setup a field goal as the half expired that finally put Washington on the board.
The 2nd half could not have started better for the boys from Washington.
Will Rogers led a masterful 9 play drive that included two clutch 3rd down conversions before Jonah Coleman found a crease for the Huskies first touchdown of the day. And they would not have to wait long for their 2nd.
On 2nd and 5 from their own 25 Miller Moss turned for the play-action fake to Treyvion O'Neal, but before he even turned around to face the rush Washington defensive end Toby Erickson delivered a crushing hit that jarred the ball lose. Russell Davis II would scoop and rumble into the endzone and just like that Washington had drawn within 5 points of the Trojans.
Both teams exchanged 3-and-outs before Zachariah Branch did Heisman things taking a 12 yard curl, that Miller Moss zipped in between two defenders, brushing off the defender and sprinting the remaining 55 yards to once again push USC to a double digit lead.
While Washington managed another field goal in the quarter, it was clear the 3rd touchdown on the day for Branch had broken the Huskies spirit.
Moss' 2nd interception of the day gave the Huskies a brief moment of hope, but Roger's would match the interception and USC would score quickly to officially put the game out of reach.
USC's defense has been described as a heart attack waiting to happen on the football field, often exchanging explosive plays for themselves with the opposition at will, but played one of their more complete games of the season.
The yardage was there for Will Rogers and the Huskies passing attack through the air, but consistently the Trojans were able to come up with big stops to limit the Dawgs to just one touchdown on the day.
The loss drops Washington to 3-3 in conference play and likely out of the Big Ten title picture, barring a significant collapse from multiple teams at the top of the Big Ten.
Meanwhile USC stays in the Big Ten hunt with the win, improving to 4-2 in the conference with two more conference games left on the slate before finishing the season against rival Notre Dame.
