Need help making games a little more competitive

I had this problem last year and managed to figure out a nice balance.

I don't like messing with sliders much, I'd ideally play on default. But out of the box I like this game on all star with pro user shooting. I noticed however since the patch (with the original all star sliders, it seems like they have changed the default sliders since) that the games are slightly easier. I'm usually up by 10 at halftime.

Just kind of curious how ya'll would make the game slightly more competitive. I've considered just upping the all star shooting to what it is on superstar, that way the computer just makes more shots. But I'm also curious what the differences are with the new default sliders vs what they were out the box. Does anybody know the changes??

I'm also considering going back to 8 minute quarters like I did last year bc I'm scoring the ball more. I was up to 9 this year bc it was harder to make shots but I feel like offense has gotten easier since the patch.

There’s no way for us to know what 2K have “changed” with sliders after any given patch.

There are slider sets you can try out on this forum and on YouTube, so no need to worry about constantly tweaking sliders yourself if that’s a barrier for you. I would never settle for 2K’s default settings, nor do I see a point in anyone else doing so. If you play offline, you only hinder your own experience by sticking to the default sliders IMO.

My biggest problem is most slider sets ask you to change the way I am play the game. I don't want to turn off the shot meter or use real shot timing % or play 12 minute quarters, etc. Plus I don't really run plays on offense.

Why give me flack for playing the game in a way that's fun to me? I'm not even complaining about the game, I'm just trying to get it to play more like it was playing before the update.

Are you for real? A certain majority of us are looking for a decent sim basketball videogame. If you want to play a basketball game the way you described you have other alternatives and you also have options within this one. Just go to sliders and crank up whatever you want.
Do you seriously believe you have a valid opinion on the game pre and post patch while you're posting you don't care about plays etc?

I'm not giving a valid opinion on the game pre and post patch. I'm not saying it's positive or negative I am just trying to figure out how to adjust the game for me where it will play more like it did before the patch that is all. I just like to move the ball around some, play iso ball, and I like to score off of fast breaks.

Fair enough. You have al the tools there to do it. What I'm saying is that it's easier for you to achieve this kind of gameplay you're after. If you're struggling with the sliders you can always ask for someone to provide a full arcade set or semi arcade for you. It might sound harsh but I don't think you should have a valid say about the patch.

Yeah like I said I'm not trying to complain about the patch. I'm a casual player (I still play it pretty often but not in any kind of competitive way) and I only play MyNBA. I'm more about the team building aspects of the mode than anything and just want fun close games where some of the stats aren't too far from real life.

You guys say it’s easy to just use sliders. Here’s the problem sliders secretly tie to other sliders. So it’s not easy to adjust. For ex I would like more user fast breaks. How do you get that with sliders?

This is my biggest problem. Especially last year there was like a shot coverage window slider that changed a lot when I was trying to mess with the sliders (I'm sure it's still there but I'm not having to adjust it to make the game play well for me). I'm enjoying this year a lot more though tbh.

I ended up going down to 8 minute quarters and I raised all the CPU shooting stats to 53 which is default superstar and the Mavericks ended up beating me (the Spurs) 106-101. It was a fun game and I felt like I had opportunities to win, I'm going to keep playing with that if I keep getting similar results.

Exactly. It doesn’t have to be that complicated so why is it?

Recommend trying this roster/slider sets. Super competitive realistic games. Been doing this roster 2k20. We have 4-5 different slider sets for different play styles. Hall of fame first then download the sliders. We have 13 teams done so far.

You would need more turnovers from the CPU and you’d need to eliminate the artificial boosts given to the CPU (if playing Hall of Fame difficulty). So increase user Steals, Steal Success, Hands, and Defensive Awareness attribute sliders, and/or increase the user Play Passing Lanes and Go for On Ball Steals tendency sliders. If playing on Hall of Fame, you’d also want to decrease Speed/Agility/Strength for the CPU by about 5 to get rid of the warp cutoffs and instances where slow defenders outrun your fastest players.

It may not be as easy as there simply being a “more fast breaks” slider, but it is all extremely intuitive. Think about the issue you want solved (more user fast breaks) and diagnose what is causing the issue (not enough turnovers from the CPU). Then adjust sliders related to that until you’re happy with the results. If you need more turnovers, increase sliders related to turnovers. If you need to get rid of CPU attribute boosts, decrease those CPU attribute sliders. Don’t want to do any of the guesswork and testing? Try out some of the many slider sets that others have created.

The issue is the tie ins to certain sliders we don’t know about. Ex Please explain this. I put the two sliders that were zeroed at back at 50. I think shot and layup gather and now I get breaks and less catchup speed by cpu. How would we ever think that would be tied in to fast breaks?
